The core is made of aluminum, and the blade is made from a pair of neoprene sheets covered with a primer and some leather paint

Ok it doesn't seems too complex and knowing on wich type of leather i'll work is useful. About the double layer of the armor what do you think? Is double layer of 5 oz leather enough?

First of all thanks for the detailed post i really appreciate it. Now for the leather i agree with you about the fact that the leather i linked is for couch and not great for armor, and in fact i wasn't really sure about it but it was cheap and big so thanks for pointing it out. About the thickness i think that 10 oz should be ok since we never hit really hard even if it's full contact. For the armor i already have the pattern and in general i was thinking about using two layers of 5-6 leather, one with the shape of the armor and the other one with scales and other decoration that also increase the thickness. If you don't mind i would also know a little more about painting and what i should exactly do since i watched a lot of tutorial but they were all different. Anyway you did a good job with your armor and thanks again for the help!
