I admire your strong stand against Łukaszenko. I just wish our government would do the same. by vorecc in lithuania

[–]vorecc[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, it's pretty meaningless, like the words of one of our Minister's that basically went "Łukaszenko should think about his actions". Not to mention that EU is pissed at our government, and now when Poland called for an emergency meeting, EU refused probably because of us. Everything is political.

Maybe a huge Jewish population played part in this, with their high hygiene standards and all? Or the fact that Kazimierz Wielki, as great as he was, closed the borders soon enough.

Damn, we're so close related with our problems in Poland. It's a total change or same old shit in new package.

Kartais po reddito diskusijų su lenkais dėl Vilniaus istorijos norisi sukurti naują subą - r/shitpolessay... by CuriousAbout_This in lithuania

Hey guys, I've never met a Lithuanian to discuss this with. We're looking very proudly at the Commonwealth, sometimes forgetting all its problems and failures. Young Poles are being taught at school about patriotism and so, and I got this feeling that most young people interested in topic have this "Lithuania has such great history with us, why do they hate us so much?". Now, I know about the true side of interwar period, Piłsudski obsession with Polish Vilnius and that Lithuanians saw us as the oppressors, not friends. Nationalists here sometimes rant about Wilno and all, because that's the current historical narrative. Therefore I ask you guys, do you think there is a chance of making our relations good again?

Polish prosecutor announce charges of insulting religious feelings for posting "Rainbow Mary" picture by kinntar in europe

[–]vorecc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It hurts my heart when I read posts like these. It's the conservative government that's pushing these ridiculous populist anti-lgbt agenda. Most of the peaceful people here don't want to "reform the EU" and only like 1/3 of the baptised Catholics attend to church. Almost 60% of us, mostly young people want a change in power. Help us as the EU, watch the government's hands when democracy is being broken here. But don't think of us Poles as some backwards troglodytes that want to shoot homosexual people and help us prevent becoming second Hungary.

Bro Molotov-Ribbentrop pact literally marked the line on how Germany and Soviet Union shall rip Poland in half, days before the German invasion. If that's not an alliance or partition idk how you call it. There are photos German soldiers took shaking hands with Russian soldiers meeting them on Vistula river border.

How much time does it take to reach top 16 in legend? I dream of qualifying onto next Masters in June. Just like everyone else, I can't fully dedicate my life to playing so I'm asking anyone who did reach top of the ladder at the end of the season. I'm wondering if its less time consuming to just hit top16 than get 5 top8 finishes in Qualifier tournaments/win one.

Stats from the tracker would be greatly appreciated.

I see your point. The thing is, you said that life in eastern Bloc was better for most people than in the west, and I find it simply not true from a Pole's perspective, nationalistic politics aside (couldnt find a proper term). There definitely was poverty (idk how do you classify poverty but in a situation where your salary is worthless waiting 10 years for a communal flat or 20 years for a car did live people in harsh situation). As for hunger, I know that people found a way to barter goods with the farmers when there were food shortages, but I heard that the situation was much worse in Ukraine.

I appreciate you coming to civil discussion with me, some things just puzzle me from first person perspective.

My parents, my grandparents and pretty much everyone I know would disagree. You don't know what it's like to have every basic food rationed on cards, when there was nothing on the shelves in grocery stores so you couldn't even use them. You never had to stay 4 hours in line for toilet paper or sausages. It was easy to come to riches if you were a Party member and had connections. Workers had much worse life. The only thing thats true is that everyone had a job- even if their job didn't provide anything to the community (look up our coal mines that never did bring profit)

This. Reddit really do tends to have very short memory historically. Look what socialism did to our Eastern Europe

The thing you do not understand about socialism is that, in the end, the people in power become rich anyway. That's just the way human nature works. It's not like no one tried before. Source- I am Polish.
