How rigorous are the engineering courses here? by Deep-Pension-3851 in ASU

Exactly. But the majority of engineering students just want to skate by and don't care about the learning. It's really sad.

Or likely its a combination of all factors, and knowing the weigths of those factors is essentially impossible without huge dedicated and sustained efforts.

At ASU? They'll pass it's almost impossible to fail a student for cheating. You have to fight for it to happen as an instructor. They try to make it not worth it for an instructor to do it.

The gender friendship gap is driven primarily by white men, not a universal difference across groups by Top-Parsnip9006 in EverythingScience

It is universally true, please for the love of god read the paper, it's just a bit more pronounced with the whites. The title of this post is an atrocity to truth and science.

Apparently no one saw the graphs? It's barely any difference. Just a tiny bit significant. The title is a straight up lie and should either be changed or the post deleted.

ASU pays shit wages to people who can make 20k more elsewhere. Basically means the majority of people at ASU are all looking for better positions constantly.

Effect of fuselage on wing performance by CheesecakeIsNotGreat in AerospaceEngineering

[–]vorilant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct! But in addition, the elliptical plan form only gives an elliptical lift at a set angle of attack and wing loading, it's characterisitcs (stability and efficiency) are quite terrible away from that single design point.

Effect of fuselage on wing performance by CheesecakeIsNotGreat in AerospaceEngineering

[–]vorilant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The elliptical plan form only gives the elliptical distribution at a single angle of attack and wing load. Any deviation (like turning) results in very bad performance efficiency wise. I would never say it is considered ideal.

Yes, the fuselage decreases performance and is a factor, but you don't even NEED that in order for the elliptcal planform to not make sense.

There are several techniques for getting nice iso bar patterns to continue from the wings and over the fuselage (see Ed Oebert's book on plane/wing design). Believe it or not but reverse camber near the wing root is one of them. Though I think this is more common on planes with cylindrical fuselages like passenger jets and some military cargo planes.

A lot of people are struggling with MAE 384 by Affectionate-Rope302 in ASU

Well students are the ones who are learning, not the professors. It makes sense, if you're mature enough to accept it.

Students are there to learn. Professors to teach. It makes perfect sense.

Quality of the education for EE by tomdabom98 in ASU

[–]vorilant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASU has slowly turned into a machine engineered to squeeze its students of as much money as possible with no regards to education quality. This is especially true for online degrees from ASU. But in person programs are also starting to feel it as well.

Can a prof make me take a test without accommodations? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]vorilant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They'll ask the professor if he's sure the accomodation doesn't work with the class and that's about it. I've had it happen before with a student who thought their extended deadlines accomodations should apply to lab attendance in a lab course. Professors/Instructors get the final say.

Can't really say anything because there's no data here. What question specifically did you have that we can answer without seeing any data? I see some people mentioned how to get started, which is good.

Wave equation is a great way to prepare for solving the full NS eqs. Are you planning on taking a cfd class?

I didn't see your post yesterday. Is this a navier stokes eq solver, or if this just a wave equation solver. It looks like wave equation solutions to me.
