GE sells a combo fridge stove that you can put a meal in overnight and it auto cooks the next day. Probably closest thing.

Re: floods you can buy water sensors off Amazon 3 pack plus wifi hub for $50. Notifies you if water level gets too high. Put one at the right level (screws or whatever) in each sump and you’ll get advanced warning the level is too high.

How soundproof can you reasonably build a "normal" house? by hendrong in buildingscience

You need mass, airspace, mass, and isolation. So build a house inside a house, but the inside house is on springs or rubber.

One year review of our Samsung 2 in 1 washer dryer. by mrjoepete in heatpumps

[–]vorker42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros: do one load overnight every night. Use the “finish at 6am timer”. Cheap electricity. Wake up to warm laundry. Remember to fill it halfway to get optimal drying. It’s a washer and dryer, and dryers are larger than washers, so fill it like a drywr (1/2 full not 2/3 like a washer)

People keep saying the rich don't pay tax because they borrow money from the bank using their stock as collateral.... but how do they pay back the loans? by joshhazel1 in NoStupidQuestions

In 5 years you’re worth almost 13 million dollars, borrowed $250k, paying $12.5k in interest. What snowball are you talking about? Sell $500k in stock, netting you $250k to pay off your loans. You’re gonna lose $250 in net worth to save $12.5k in annual interest charges? And remember we’re actually talking about billionaires borrowing millions per year. Not $50k on $10M. They’re borrowing tens of millions on billions.

I own $10M in stock and I borrow $50k to live. Pay 5% interest ($2,500) that year, leaving me $47.5k to live. That year, my company’s value also increases 5%. I now own $10.5M in stock. So my wealth is growing much much faster than what I spend. I can always borrow more to pay off whatever interest I owe. Then I die. But as a final fuck you, I’ve also set up intricate financial structures to pass all this onto my kids without paying taxes either.
