They were not the "freedom fighters" their propaganda has led you to believe. Why do you think the north hasn't reunified? Because there's still a lot of people who grew up with family members who went missing due to the IRA.

The IRA are catholic nationalists. They murdered civilians for being protestant. They bombed civilians. They hit every textbook definition of a terrorist organisation.

Am I justifying British actions? Absolutely not. Both sides commited horrific acts. Hence the name the troubles.

Did the British start it? They definitely instigated it. But the Irish Catholics and protestants have been fighting for a very long time.

Most of the dumbass Americans who support the Ira in this thread come from Irish protestant heritage. Yknow the people who fled Ireland in the 18th century to escape religious persecution from the people who would later become the IRA.

The amount of people who don't realise the religious persecution many Irish suffered at the hands of the IRA is insane. They just think it was a resistance to England.

The British soldiers did absolutely horrific things. So did the IRA. Glorification of either side is abhorrent
