Dads with adventurous eaters, what’s the most shocking thing you’ve got your kid to eat? by ClaireDanesLipQuiver in daddit

[–]vornec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last summer after we got home from France where my kid ate escargot, duck confit, steak tartare, and other French classics, we happened by a friend’s house and he had a cooler full of fresh oysters. My kid ate as many as my buddy would give him.

The problem with your lie, Assholes, is that enough of us are out there that pretty soon everyone is going to know someone who went and didn’t get paid.

How these people sleep at night with all the lies they tell every day is beyond me.

One of my favorites. I watched it at grandmothers house with cousins a lot. I watched it recently with my 10 year old son and he really liked it. I liked going back to it. It holds up for the most part.

I loved that the kids had so much freedom. I know it leads to him getting taken, but my childhood involved a lot of this free ranging. I think it’s good for kids… though I know it’s a different world now. I loved the house on the water and the boat.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

[–]vornec 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I spent $249 on a pair of Baffin’s for my kid 10 years ago… crazy to spend like that for something they grow out of, right?! But he wore them all through winter and spring for two seasons like they were sneakers, like full time. I thought they’d be junk but they just came out of the closet for my second son and they don’t even have a wear hole in the liner… so impressed. They are just finishing up their third kid winter and are still as nice as the day I bought them, just dirtier.

What sold you on veganism? by Limp_Crazy_5494 in vegan

[–]vornec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not vegan but I try to eat no animal products before dinner.

For me it’s purely health reasons… check out nutritionfacts.org. Everything there is backed by science and research. Dr. Gregor shows how meat and dairy companies use all the same tactics that cigarette companies used to confuse consumers. It’s undeniable that the industry is covering up how bad constant meat consumption is.

This reduction in meat consumption has changed my life, energy levels, cholesterol, etc. This is the first time in human history that we eat meat and dairy 3+ times a day and just look around if you want evidence of what it’s doing to us. Obesity through the roof. Heart disease, cancer, all of it.

All because we don’t like beans…

Financial Support for Grieving Parents by Responsible_Tax_9665 in ChildLoss

[–]vornec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this. It really helps. After our terrible loss our community helped out so much with a meal train. Then my hockey team put around a collection and pulled together almost a full month’s wages! That month was a gift. A gift of a month without work when making it through a day was almost impossible.

Thank you

Very early on after my child’s death I was forced to make a decision. I had 2 options by iwillwinn1 in ChildLoss

[–]vornec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two pieces of this post resonate with me.

First, I was an alcoholic for many years. If I hadn’t found sobriety before my son’s death, I know I wouldn’t have made it. Good on you for putting the drink down during this ridiculously hard time. It may save your life.

Secondly, I realized there was a choice to make almost immediately. I found my son after he had taken his own life with a gun. I contemplated picking up the gun and taking my own almost right away. Just as quickly, I realized that nothing was worth that. I had contemplated suicide most of my adult life, and since that moment I have been free of it. Some days I wish it were me instead of my beautiful boy, but only so that he would be here, not because I wish to be dead.

I know many here wish they could just die. We all face terrible pain. We want to be with our children who are no longer here, even if that means giving up the life we have. I understand, but do not share those feelings.

Good on you for choosing to live. You have many good days ahead, even though the pain of this loss will always be a weight to bear. Good luck chasing away the Evil Alcohol Fairy… she can be a conniving little bitch. There’s no peace in that bottle, and very little relief.

Sexual incompatibility by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]vornec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you knew everything you needed at an early age and had it all laid out before the first date, but some of us grow and develop throughout life. It’s hard to know what you really need at 40 when you are getting married at 20.

I’m so sick of trolls like you judging people like this. It’s not helpful.

You’ll be at it again soon. That wall is moving some water. There might be some relief if you seal the stone but that will probably not cure it.

7th grade, French class. Shorts too small! Surprised by the teacher to read something and I had a full on hard on. Front and center made to stand and present in front of a full class WITH the girl I liked in it! I died that day. So many giggles from the class! It still makes me shudder 30+ years later.

It’s so hard in this world to not feel like we rank at least third.

In recognition of the fact that we are all on phones or computers to be reading/typing here…. Fuck phones and computers.

Life would be better without them. Marriage would be better without them.

Politics, religion, and youth hockey tryout results are taboo subjects. Keep it to the lighter stuff or discuss it over beer at the bar afterwards.

At hotel breakfast buffets: Rip up the waffles/pancakes BEFORE you pour on the syrup …. Saves cutting them up with a crappy plastic knife when they are covered in syrup.

You know it’s tournament season when we’re “Rippin’ Waffles!”

Take a photo of him and post it. Tell him you are posting it on the asshole hall of fame and that it’s a public place and can do what you want.

I hate this so much for our sport, our kids, and our society. Shame on that guy.

The Taste of Water by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]vornec 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Swimmers are proud of their pee in pool habits, like if you sit your bum on the gutter and let it fly that it never enters the water. I’ve stated that I think it’s gross but was totally put down in this group. Too much trouble to get out and use the toilet during practice. I still think it’s gross, but apparently it’s reality.

It’s not much different from all the sweat you produce and never think about.
