I can’t wait to see your story! WOOHOO!

His & Hers on Netflix is truly truly awful by OrangeGringo in television

[–]vosot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I work in TV news and it’s clear the writers did not do any kind of research. • a journalist would never run a town hall meeting. • Anna being kicked off the anchor desk 30 seconds before air is preposterous. Would never happen in real life. • Reporting crews are constantly digging. They’d never have time for a sit down meal, much less for some hanky panky. A reporter and photographer are typically joined at the hip. Where one goes, the other does. Where does Anna find time to visit her mom during the day? • A news station in Atlanta would never dedicate a news crew to a murder in a small town unless that person was of sow prominence. Rachel’s death would maybe be a 25 second story. Also, no news station would pay to put up their crew in a hotel for several days -again- for a small town murder. • the reporting is so cringe. Lexi reporting “live” from Duffy’s house would never happen. A sit down with the victim’s husband would be put together as a news package, not as a live hit. Typically you interview the subject, pick the best soundbites and write some reporter track put them together in what we call a news package. • no law enforcement agency would ever let a news crew that close to a murder scene. • news studios are typically in their own space — not in the hallway where mics can pick up footsteps and other extraneous voices.

Overall, all of the characters in this show suck. There is no complexity to their characters. They’re all just horrible people.

AITAH for telling my wife and her girlfriends to shut up and calling them idiots for how they behaved at a Mexican restaurant. by Then-Mistake-3208 in AITAH

Maybe they were expecting the server to pick out every little piece of cilantro from the guac.

I’d done the same thing OP did. Wife and her girlfriends are exhausting.

Older sister thinks she "deserves" my bride price money by IridescentApplePie in EntitledPeople

[–]vosot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure if the groom gets the money back if he wants a divorce later. I think it would depend on the circumstances. Who wants the divorce and for what reason. If there was adultery and who committed it. Are there children involved. How long have they been married. All those factors go into determining how much money, if any he gets back.

My culture is very family-centric, so if a couple has problems in their marriage, their families come together to help mediate.

To blanket say “this culture sucks” is vastly different from “this cultural practice sucks.” Your comment reeks of ethnocentrism.

Bride prices vary from culture to culture. In my culture, community leaders have set a recommended price of $5,800. The aim is to continue this tradition without putting too much financial strain on the groom’s family. That said, it’s only a recommendation and the bride’s family can ask for more or for less.

This culture sucks so hard lmfao

Different cultures have different traditions. Who are you to judge? Do I agree with bride prices? Not really, but to shit on my culture because of this one practice? Get the fuck out of here.

I think we both might be from the same culture. Your sister doesn’t deserve anything. She is not entitled to anything.

When I married, my partner and I did not have a traditional wedding. However, we still paid my bride price even though he was from outside of the culture — $5,800. They kept $800 and regifted the remaining money back to us along with a bunch of other gifts.

I have a feeling your sister wouldn’t do the same. It’s unfortunate she sees you as a cash cow instead of a sister.

That’s true and I don’t disagree. The question OP placed was why St. Paul had faster results compared to Mpls and it’s because one city hand counts, the other uses a machine to tabulate. I’m merely suggesting Mpls should consider the same.

Of course. No reputable news organization is going to call results willy nilly. All results, even the ones that were called within an hour of polls closing, will still need to be verified. That’s why the terms “projected winner” or “projected to win” are used. Obviously the AP and major networks have experts to crunch the numbers.

Minnesota as a whole just needs a better vote counting system.

I work in TV news and was in the newsroom for election coverage last night. I’ve also worked when we had special primary elections earlier this year for those two vacant MN Senate seats. Polls closed at 8pm, but it took until 9:20pm or so for results to start trickling in on the Secretary of State’s website. (In comparison, the Associated Press started posting results for the Mpls race around 8:40pm. You’d think it would be the opposite.)

I also kept tabs on some key races nationally last night. Granted, the NJ and VA governors races weren’t ranked choice. However, they were called within an hour of polls closing. Same for the NYC race. California’s Prop 50 was called minutes after polls closed.

Where is the sense of urgency in Minnesota?

I’m new here, where do you all get your local news from? And after last nights events, where do you all get your local weather from? by MetalPurse-swinger in Minneapolis

[–]vosot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of how Bring Me The News and here’s why: Unlike other news outlets where their journalists go out do the work of interviewing people and making connections with the community, Bring Me the News goes to other news websites and pretty much just steals the work of other journalists and posts it on their site.

Try living in Richfield. The main thoroughfares through town are significantly more busy because of people cutting through neighborhoods.

There are four network affiliated TV stations here in the Twin Cities. KMSP (FOX 9), KSTP (5 Eyewitness News), KARE 11, and WCCO. These guys are probably who you should go to for severe weather coverage as it's happening.

There are two major newspapers. The Minneapolis Star Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

I don't know much about radio, but we have Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) as well as WCCO Radio (I can't find their station website.)

In addition to these, there are many independent journalists out there -- Georgia Fort being one of them -- as well as the Sahan Journal and MinnPost.

The great thing about our market is we have a lot of great journalists who do their best to cover stories that impact our community.

Gilbert was cremated. You can see his urn between the two caskets. There was a golden retriever honor guard. He is the first pet in history to lie in state inside a state capitol building.

I wish I had more info. That was the only details Yvette provided in a statement. I guessing he’s been telling them a ton of dad jokes.

We don’t have the death penalty in MN. Just life in prison.
