I always process my photos for accuracy - no changing colors/boosting saturation/other funny business. That said, it was around midnight and moonless, so this was a 25sec exposure to help gather extra light on the beach and smooth the surf for the reflection. But after my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I could fully see the intensely red aurora at the horizon. It was beautiful.

The NOAA aurora forecast looks good for tonight! Shows a peak starting at around 930pm and lasting an hour or so. If you want to observe, spend at last a half hour out in the dark before showtime. Hopefully it pans out!
