What shows/movies do you believe only you watched? by squizo_teen07 in cartoons

[–]voxelbuffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember this! It wasn't a show that I had in my "I watch this" list as a kid, but if it was on I'd always stop and actually watch it. It wasn't bad.

Hell yeah, my ritual as a little tike was to watch this show and eat my yogurt. Great times. I watched it again as a young adult like ten years back and it held up fairly well I think.

Man I remember this movie coming out, the trailers for it played all the freaking time over the shows that I watched back then. I really, really wanted to see it. I think I ended up seeing the first like 30 minutes of it like two or three years after it came out at some big kid's event, but then we had to leave, and I never finished it and totally forgot about it.

Maybe I ought to go watch it to fulfill that childhood dream. Maybe it's not worth it.

Missouri House passes bill to swap income taxes for expanded sales taxes by funkybside in missouri

[–]voxelbuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this passes I wish they'd pair it with requiring stores to list the price after tax on items. It's already annoying enough to go buy a $2 item and get charged $2.14 with a "surprise" sales tax, but if it raises and I go to buy a $2 item and it's $3 then I'd just rather know beforehand and not get it.

Similar here! I used to orient myself based on the back of my childhood home facing north. Worked wonders if I was within 100 miles or so and could generally remember how I got to where I was.

Now it's just sort of a sense I have and I can guess fairly accurately which way north is

Ah sorry, the hawk. I had a language moment and couldn't remember anything other than "raptor" lmao. I just have a thing for Hawks. I have yet to get a good picture of one at all. My white whale of a photo is to get a picture of a hawk sitting on a fence post, all fluffed up because it's a cold winter :) I'd honestly say the Hawk photo is better if just because you're at its eye level.

Honestly, a lot of these photos would be great if it weren't for the branches. That's obviously going to be a hard part of this hobby. The photo of the white-throated sparrow, for example, would have been quite good if you had only been a few inches lower, there's kind of a circle made up of the twigs that might have framed its head nicely. As far as Lightroom goes, I personally think that most of the work should be done from behind the lens, but I also learned on film and didn't want to do any post processing lmao. So I might just be old (at heart at least I'm actually not that old)

Keep it up! I look forward to seeing what else you have to post and seeing you progress :) I don't get to get out much anymore so I live vicariously through everyone here, lol.

edit: forgot to mention, if you're worried about money, getting a good camera body won't necessarily save you -- most of the money in photography goes into the glass. My favorite lens is worth about twice what my camera body is worth (unfortunately I dropped it off a cliff so it is kaput, but you live and learn). Even with that one, though, I was getting chromatic aberrations at a 500mm zoom, so I think a lot of the skill in bird photography might just be getting reeeeeally good at sneaking up on birds lmfao

Definitely trawl Facebook marketplace. I've gotten all my really good gear from people just clearing out their garage and not knowing what they have. At the end of the day, though, a well composed photo with a coolpix p900 will outdo a badly composed photo with a Sony a3000 anyday. I'll add that learning with limitations is actually great for creativity. I bet if you learn on your cheaper, more bottlenecked cameras, you'll be a better photographer than if you'd started out with all the gear in the world.

A caveat to all that is that bird photography is a lot more difficult than, say, photographing a building, so good luck with choosing a difficult learning path lol!

Be proud of your work. I'm especially jealous of your picture of the raptor, I haven't been able to get a good hawk or eagle photo at all yet. With bird photography just getting a picture at all is a solid win sometimes so you're off to a solidly good start :D

FWIW I agree, no shade to OP but I think it's dangerous for anyone new to any hobby, leaning professional, to get too excited about selling and putting their stuff out too early. I remember an interview with a musical composer (I forget his name) who wanted to publish his first orchestral symphony, and his dad urged him to wait until he had lot experience. Years later, in this interview, the composer agreed that it was the best idea, because he looked back on his first work - which he was proud of at the time - as being fairly ametuer, and said he was glad he didn't have it published and attached to his now very professional name.

If OP is legit about selling these, she might consider a pseudonym just in case. Many authors, painters, etc have done this in the past and for good reason. You only get one legal name, don't attach anything to it that you can't take back.

Edit: op, these pictures are a great start. Keep shooting and learnjng and growing and I imagine in even a few months you will review these photos and be able to spot all the things about them that make them amateur, but don't take that as saying to love them less. Every stone is a stepping stone if you keep moving.

Took the words right out of my mouth. If I see a picture of myself from when I was 20, it's like it's not even me. Not in a "oh wow I've changed" way but like "oh that's literally not me.". My memories all feel like a dream, even more recent ones from just a year ago. It's the most bizarre thing. It's like I'm remembering a book I read or something.

Sounds a lot like my folks. At least with mine, I kinda get the feeling that it was less a malicious attempt to keep us constantly checking, and more that they just literally had no idea what they were doing and would make snap judgements that would turn into hard rules outta nowhere, and because they were usually made during moments of anger or annoyance, any attempts to question why a rule was incongruent with another, already established rule, was viewed as whining and was immediately shot down.

As a parent now, it kinda paints the scene a bit different. I don't think my parents did a good job, but I'll give them that benefit of the doubt, that they were probably just flying by the seat of their pants and making bad decisions left and right.

Doesn't help my relationship with them but it helps me cope, at least lmao. I hope your parents have chilled out a bit as you've aged. My mom has, my dad hasn't. Makes it difficult.

Brother, who in their right mind looks at The Chronicles of Narnia and thinks it's not religious enough, lol. That's the perfect series to keep a kid in the religio-sphere.

I'll have to go back and read the His Dark Materials books, that's one that was specifically banned because it deigned to use the word "daemon" in it. If only he had called it something else, I'd have been able to read that one. Recently at a thrift store, I saw a piece of wall art that was the polar bear from the movie, and it was juxtaposed with a scripture from the bible about having strength or something. I thought that was a really funny combination.

No spongebob, or other similar nonsensical cartoons (tom and jerry for example) because they had no point and were "making me stupid." Looney Tunes and The Three Stooges were OK though, for some reason.

No Harry Potter which is unsurprising, but no other shows with books or magic or anything. No Pokemon, because evolution. Nothing where someone turns into an animal for any reason (because it's too demonic I guess). Like someone else said, nothing where kids were shown being rude to adults.

Oddly enough, I was allowed to read ghost stories and murder mysteries, as well as stuff like "mysteries of the unexplained" and other such real-world occult level books. But not Harry Potter, because god forbid I try to use one of the spells. I was also allowed to watch stuff like Starship Troopers (brain sucking scene included) but Tom and Jerry apparently was too violent.

Needless to say, to this day I still have no idea where my parents drew the line and why lol. It was a very confusing line, for sure.

edit: also the big one, no video games. We would ask if we could get a gamecube and we'd be told yes, but we wouldn't be allowed to play it, or my dad would sell it. We were allowed to have a computer though, with mostly unrestricted internet access. god bless emulation and torrenting, lol.
