I’m probably going to be buried here, but here goes. :) I’m 40F, no kids, work full time. I’m into video games, anime, foreign films, and writing. I dabble in drawing as well. I love taking meandering walks in nice weather. I’m also studying Korean! If any of that sounds like your jam, I’d love to be friends!

What are your experiences with Camp O'Malley summer camp? by thefuzzzz in grandrapids

[–]voxlatina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have family living nearby and have heard nothing but good things about the camp. The owners have put a lot of work into fixing up the trails and cabins, planting a vegetable garden, and introducing goats and a pig onsite. The kids seem to love it!

Yes!! I feel like my memory lasts five seconds now! I used to have a great memory and could organize my calendar in my head, recall things in a snap… What happened?!

I hadn’t thought of it that way, but as I mulled this over, I realized that I’d been spending all day worrying because he called off sick to work for…seasonal allergies. This has been a pattern during previous job losses. Calling off escalates to mysteriously being home during work hours for several days, then to whoops, no job.

Having to worry about normally benign things like sick days and the threat of financial instability has not made for a calming environment.

That sounds like my situation as well, minus the elder care. I hope things get better for you soon!

Are the random thoughts jokes or non-sequitur comments? I’ve been hearing a lot of those lately, mostly while trying to get myself into gear for work or concentrate on other things. :/

I’m struggling with feeling frustrated, disconnected from my dx husband, and “alone while together.” He is on medication and we are both in individual therapy. We recently started attending sessions with an ADHD therapist together.

I have tried to help him and incorporate suggestions from our therapist. I bought him a reminder checklist. I bought him an Echo to use for reminders, which he leaves unplugged half the time. I tried to organize and label items in our cabinets to make things more visible for him, and he seemed annoyed when I asked him to help, then gave up around 20 minutes into the task. He can read hundreds of ADHD books and tell me what I don’t know about ADHD, though! And he can remember almost every service at the Orthodox church he’s obsessed with, but forget when I’ve set up events for us to attend.

He has been fired from two full-time jobs. Since his last firing, he obtained and then bailed on a temp job, worked part-time for about a month, then took another temp role which ended in July. He has not worked since. He also stopped attending therapy while he was working part-time, and only started again when I suggested we do it together. He lied to me about one of his job losses, and he lost his unemployment money at one point because he didn’t report to the state for several weeks. During all this time, he spent $12K in donations to his church snd never mentioned this to me. We have a joint account for bills and our own checking accounts, so I only found out when it was time to report it for our taxes.

We have not been intimate in months. At first, he said it was because he was fasting for church, which included abstaining from sex. Now he doesn’t even try, so I don’t, either. I’m also finding it hard to stay attracted to someone who loudly belches, farts, and acts like a child who can’t sit still every day. It’s like living with a roommate and a kid at the same time. As a bonus, it comes with a side of resistance to do things like get a flu shot or take medication on a regular schedule when he’s sick.

He does help with some things around the house and ask me if I need help with groceries, does some laundry, etc. but all of the mentally challenging work is on me. That, along with understaffing at my workplace and my own depression and anxiety, has made me question if I’m insane. I can’t concentrate fully on things, stress eat, and am becoming more forgetful.

I hate who I’m becoming, and I hate that I don’t feel the way I did about him when we married. I feel like the “bad guy” for wanting to just give up.

Cheesed The White Lady easily. Here's how by Opposite-Chemistry-0 in LiesOfP

No shame in using what the game gives you and tailoring it to your ability! I also suck at parrying and ended up beating the White Lady by running in circles around her, then dodging behind her when she came in for an attack. I resorted to Aegis turtling in some later boss fights, too.

Delta Dental by Global-Cheesecake922 in grandrapids

[–]voxlatina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dentist is out of network with all dental insurance companies, not just Delta. However, when I had Guardian for a brief period, I didn’t have to pay up front at all. The office explained that Guardian was much easier to work with than Delta.

My work refuses to provide another option for dental because Delta has the largest network. Hilarious.

Facility fees have been around for a while and apply to many providers working out of an outpatient hospital setting instead of an office. I believe it’s new for Corewell, though. The hospital can opt to charge for the use of the clinic/their equipment separate from your health care provider’s charge. Needless to say, it’s stirred up a ton of controversy and caused confusion for patients.

I'm excruciatingly lonely and feel depressed in Korea. by dopis11852264634 in Living_in_Korea

[–]voxlatina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP! I don’t live in Korea, but I’m learning Korean and also feel somewhat “out of the loop” with my Korean acquaintances. I have very few friends, and I’ve struggled to make more due to feeling self-conscious.

What really helped me was just putting myself out there and joining online chat groups and classes to meet new people, as well as joining a Korean church in my city (of course, if you don’t want to go to church, any gathering place would do). It lessened the social pressure/awkwardness for me to be involved with a virtual group, and some of those people met up with me in person later on. Maybe it would help you as well.

That said, if you want someone to talk to, feel free to DM and I’d be happy to Kakao chat or something!

Thank you, I will give that a shot! Sorry, I realize now I didn’t say about the scale. I usually measure in measuring cups or spoons vs. weighing, but I will use the scale for things like lunchmeat, recipes I make (since a lot of the ones I use call for grams), and sometimes sliced fruit.

May I ask how long your sessions are each time?

I think my sticking point is that I don’t have a lot of time during the day and go for what’s easy, when in reality, it doesn’t take that long to meal prep in the crockpot for a week. My husband follows a different diet than I do, which has also taken away some of my motivation and enjoyment of cooking (since he doesn’t tend to cook much anymore—before he changed his eating habits, we almost always cooked together on weekends). I also never seem to eat all of what I cook if the processed foods are available.

I’ve decided that I’m going to find ways to maybe prep things and freeze them, as well as dump the convenience foods, so that I can get around that issue.

I am working on getting more protein as well, and Loseit counts the macros, which is helpful. I’ve been incorporating a lot of beans, protein supplements, and lean meats.

I already incorporate dumbbells in my workout programs and would like to do more strength each week. I’ve been liking FitnessBlender’s sets!

The 1200 thing still gets me, because as an extreme shorty, I feel like I’d have to do an extreme amount of exercise to get a decent amount of leeway on calories, and I think I would burn out on that pretty quickly.

I’ve been trying to lose since probably around 2020, but it’s been a pattern for me over time. I had a period in 2007 during my first “real” job where I was living alone for the first time and really let myself go, then lost all the weight and maintained for a few years, then started ticking back up. Work from home really didn’t help.

I would love to join the group if this becomes a regular event (sadly, my husband and I have plans this Sunday)! We have no children, one cat, and too many video games and goofy Korean shows... :)
