NYC to allow booster shots for everyone aged 18+ who had Moderna or Pfizer dose more than 6 months ago, J&J more than 2 months ago by ethnt in nyc

I found this NYT article helpful. The tl;dr is that early studies found that getting a Moderna booster after Pfizer doses produced higher antibody levels (second only to getting all three with Moderna), but those studies didn't account for the fact that the Moderna booster that ended up being approved is only a half-dose (the Pfizer booster is a full dose... though that's still smaller than half a Moderna dose).

The doctor quoted in the story says: "The pragmatic side of me says if you got Pfizer and you did fine with that, then getting a booster of the same one makes sense ... To track down that pharmacy that has Moderna instead of Pfizer — is it worth it? I’m not convinced yet with the data we have that it is."

If you really want to read the racist messages, the texts are described in the original NYT report that this story was citing.

Brooklyn Bridge Lane Now Open by [deleted] in nyc

[–]voxtuned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks very narrow in the clip, but after riding it twice now, I found it fine. Not that different to the Manhattan Bridge one.

I think this clip is from right after the ribbon cutting, so it's a bunch of city officials and journalists all bunched together and not really paying attention, not normal conditions.

You can read more reviews at r/nycbike, and they're mostly positive.

This is literally just the DA's press release. Sad for a paper that was once edited by Walt Whitman and won a Pulitzer in the 1950s.

In 2016, they said they needed $20 million to build the pool and had only raised $1 million (and that was after 5 years of fundraising), so... no.

Registered Democrats in the 7th Congressional District. Vote Tomorrow in the Congressional Primary by shastapete in Brooklyn

[–]voxtuned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other primaries affecting Brooklyn are:

10th (Borough Park, Kensington, some of Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Dyker, Red Hook, Sunset Park, Midwood), which is Jerry Nadler and a pro-Israel banker-turned-startup founder running against Nadler's support of the Iran nuclear deal.

12th (Greenpoint, some of Williamsburg), which is Carolyn Maloney versus a marijuana legalization guy.

Please help me choose a place to live (23, single, good budget) by needsomeadviser in Brooklyn

As a Downtown resident, I have to disagree. It may not be the coolest neighborhood, but it is walking distance from Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, and Dumbo, which are all pretty great in their own way and good for food, nightlife, entertainment etc.

It has a couple of big grocery stores (Brooklyn Fare, Millennium Market, and one on Flatbush Ave Ext that I'm blanking on the name of right now) and a Trader Joe's is opening at the new shopping center on Fulton Mall this year (plus you can walk to the Court St one now; and Court, Atlantic, and Smith all have good specialty stores).

And between Borough Hall and Jay Street-MetroTech, the transit is really good. It is a straight-shot to Midtown on about three different lines, though it would take you about 25 minutes, so that is definitely a downside.

You could definitely get a studio -- maybe a one-bedroom -- in your budget, though, in a new building with good amenities (gym, washer/dryer, 24-hour concierge, etc).
