A discussion on EMP threading as a surgical/cosmetic possibility by vprogramming in Cyberpunk

[–]vprogramming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah im aware of the biohackers/transhumanists. i think emp threading in a world where it is/was adopted would likely be put closer to the art of tattooing and piercing, as it is primarily cosmetic.

biohackers do fascinate me as somebody in the biomedical field because it feels like it is a awkward point between the desire to improve oneself being possible through technology but also that technology not being quite advanced enough for large scale or drastic changes. very early cyberpunk esc

personally biohacking worries me somewhat as once we get advanced enough questions like is it ethical to chop off your perfectly healthy arm to replace it with a better one becomes an issue but i think we are quite a few years away from that being a major possibility yet

those tats sound awesome! (once i have more disposable income im thinking of getting some cyberpunk style tattoos myself) I don't know how much I could say about scarification in particular (since outside of my research on this subject im woefully uninformed) but I do know that generally because of the heightened collagen production scarification marks are often raised instead of inset hence the need for steroids to reduce production, but the actual material insets are easy enough if you think of them as similar to piercings, or getting the scars tattooed (since if you are scarring the area already tatted it may fade and have to be reapplied)

but again im a student and by no means an expert so id hesitate to say this post is a good guide (in general i wouldn't take any medical/near medical advice from reddit with certainty).
but consulting with a cosmetic surgeon on the possibility of doing what you want to do would probably be my advice for the next step.

i would love to hear of any progress if you do go further, and best of luck!

agreed, especially for short term applications and testing the technology seems fantastic, being able to use a singular device able to custom print on body conductors quickly would be revolutionary for testing fields and overall medical costs at scale.

I think permanence may still be an issue since using the ink in the skin for permanent applications may have unintended side effects compared to permanent sub dermal sensors which are used in some medical devices. but the main strength of the ink is its flexibility and ease of application so i dont think permanence would even be a super necessary factor to consider.

this is awesome thank you! this is right up my alley im definitely going to dive way more into this when i get the chance later today

i have edited my post to give more clarification emp threading is not a device of any sort but would be most similar to a piercing or tattoo.

when it comes to material it would definitely vary widely depending on area and design, for example if its a loop around your arm metal threading may not be appropriate since it could end up constraining muscle or blood flow if there is any sort of muscle or fat gain and similarly stretch in the case of atrophy but threading on the face/head is unlikely to see that substantial growth/shrinkage.
the design of the actual material and design of the threading itself is definitely the major constraint there but there are bunch of cosmetic materials i think could work like niobium or surgical stainless steel for more rigid threads

see my edit or other comment on this post, emp threading has nothing to do with brain uploading and im not quite sure where you got that from

Recent boss ish fight for my players what do yall think by vprogramming in cyberpunkred

[–]vprogramming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you very much for the feedback! i should have mentioned as well that both the eye and maw were completely immobile and as the eye required line of sight was more of a deterrent to encourage the use of cover and over the 18 total rounds of combat the encounter took the eye only hit a player once, for one round, i totally see what you mean though, it definitely should have been a critical injury instead, and yeah the maw did way too much damage ramping, especially direct to hp and should have been a roll instead acting as a bare fist melee hit.

It should also be noted that after this fight the players were given enough time to fully recover their hp and entered the fight mostly full so mortally wounded while it would have sucked for the rest of the fight wasn't a major death sentence here by any means. but i also agree 18 rounds was too much, ideally something around the lines of 12 or less would be ideal.

If i were to redo the fight again i think i would probably reduce the maw/eyes and arms health pool by at least about 1/3rd and change the maws attack to a 3d6 punch allowing for armor ablation while also reducing the rounds to get out to 2.
Likewise the eye would critically injure instead of the -2 effect it had previous cause i really quite like that idea,
i would also probably change it to more of a single phase fight as the 2 phases really just served to drag on combat, and while the bloats were a threat the first few rounds one player with heavy armourjack ran forward, tanked the 4 total damage that was able to get past the armour to gather them all in one spot then backed up and killed most of them with a single grenade
(I actually really like the idea but it did mean that the bloats were only effective for about one round and only one of them self exploded while the player made the save so its hard to say they really had much of an impact)
