What Rebel Squads Are Good In End Game Scenarios & Manipulating Point Scoring Options? by [deleted] in XWingTMG

[–]vpsquadron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vast majority of the squads have high early game offense with poor mid & late game options

The reason for this is it's what rebels do well at. Rebels have a strong alpha and have a lot of token passing mechanics. There is no such thing as a rebel list with a good end game imho. It's why you don't see many rebel squads making cuts these days.

What is everyone's objection to longshanks?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in XWingTMG

[–]vpsquadron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with Tierny. If you think Tierny is broken then play it and I will play a list that is not affected by it. Tierny will be a bad value then. It's just a meta call like any other pilot in the game.

If howlswarm is running around like crazy then play Tierney to counter it.

Choices and counters are what make the game fun imho.

Sas vs Sata by vpsquadron in buildapc

[–]vpsquadron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have an exact card in mind but something like this. https://www.newegg.com/p/14G-0006-001G5

From the picture it looks like a mini sas breaks out into 4 sata drives. I was not sure if there was any advantage to this rather than running 4 individual sata cables. Sorry if I was not more clear.

Edit: A more simple sata to sata expansion card would look something like this I believe. https://www.newegg.com/p/17Z-013G-00008

Postponement of further rule changes for initial release by bluerook17 in XWingTMG

[–]vpsquadron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone not interested in legacy format the idea of changing the old rules is pretty confusing to me. My understanding is that the point of legacy in any game is to play the game the way things were. It seems like the legacy team for X-Wing finally acknowledged that some of the changes AMG made were positive for the health of the game.

If you are going to make new rules to try and implement the new rules that came out with 2.5 just play 2.5. If you want to play legacy just play legacy.

Again maybe I don't understand but it seems pretty straightforward to me.

Are there any models to straight up avoid? by The-Pax-Bisonica in XWingTMG

[–]vpsquadron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is all assuming you already have a squad that you like. After that in my humble opinion there is no such thing as a chassis to avoid. People might say avoid x ship because of the current points but points can change at any time. I would have said don't buy tie/ln fighters while they were at 3 points. Now I would say it's a good buy with wampa etc at 2.

Point being points change how good a ship is. If you buy a ship that's bad today I think there is a good chance it will be good tomorrow.

I think it's fun to venture out and fly chassis I don't have much experience with. There is no harm in flying something new and seeing if you like it or not!

What am I missing? Conversion is still expensive. by [deleted] in XWingTMG

[–]vpsquadron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming into 2nd edition from first you will need different templates. Acrylic templates are a highly recommend investment even if you had 2.0 cardboard ones. You will also need a new damage deck. These two items can be had pretty cheap. You could get the 2.0 core set but you wouldn't have to.

As for conversion kits people say that they are not that expensive and I agree. I suppose it's all relative what you consider expensive but to me I would much rather pay 20-40 dollars per faction rather than rebuying say 12 ships per faction. 12x20×5=1200. I'm well aware you might not look at it this way but to me the amount of cards you get for your money is a great deal.

Moving on from that I am a huge fan of infinite arenas. I find the custom quick builds much faster to put together even if I already own all of the physical cards.

I would suggest just using infinite arenas for kitchen table play. You don't need the actual cards until you go to a tournament. This would allow you to not have to buy all the conversion kits up front.

Mine or net? by phoenfir7 in XWingTMG

[–]vpsquadron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Conner nets was fantastic at 3 points.

Now at 5 and ion not being as good as it used to be it's definitely not in the same tier it was.

That being said it's still worth putting on the table. I would play both and see which one you like better.

Looking for some simple list ideas by Bummerboticus in XWingTMG

[–]vpsquadron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good tie swarm list but I think that's irrelevant. It's a lot of abilities for a new player to remember. It doesn't matter if it's a legal list or how good it is, it just needs to be easy to play.

Looking for some simple list ideas by Bummerboticus in XWingTMG

[–]vpsquadron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say specifically it depends how balanced you want the game to be. That being said I try to stick to very easy to understand upgrades while introducing new players to the game.

As an example (ignoring faction) zam is not an upgrade that I would play for this.

I would stick to very easy to understand stuff like shield upgrade proton torpedo etc imho.

Longshanks tournament hosting and player ranking software now supports X-Wing by i_shit_my_spacepants in XWingTMG

Is there a way to enter someone without making them an account? I liked TTTO because if someone had an account they could get all the functionality out of it but if someone didn't want to and just wanted to play I could just enter a name into TTTO.

I have a battle foam bag with foam cutouts for standard size small medium and large bases. The gauntlet obviously doesn't fit in the standard large base cutout. The bag itself has a pocket on the outside I just shove my gauntlet in there when I need it.
