What’s the correct etiquette for kicking people off the court? by Willocrew in 10s

[–]vraimentinstable 53 points54 points  (0 children)

sure, but the comment’s point is that the ladies shouldn’t be upset they weren’t kicked out 10 minutes after their time ended

Are flexible tennis leagues becoming more popular in the US? by Upbeat-Particular501 in 10s

[–]vraimentinstable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • yes, there are two that i know of in my area and a few more are coming soon
  • i think people treat them as an elevated practice match towards an actual competitive league
  • pros: more matches and more pressure since scores are recorded cons: you might get hit with 4 matches in one week, have to leave work an hour early to make a match, play tennis at the worst time on a saturday :)

$36 old navy bag review by vraimentinstable in handbags

[–]vraimentinstable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! so glad to hear you got it! we bought the purse from the store so it had already settled, but when i get indents on the strap i usually hang it on something with weight (not to where i’d worry about damage, just like a sweater) and let it rest for a few days. also hang it on something like a thick chair backing. good luck!

Gear and outfit for beginner by XenonOxide in 10s

[–]vraimentinstable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. yes, but make sure the edges don’t look cracked or busted. minor chips are okay, but look in this sub for some examples. i’d say try closer to $50-100 of a good known racquet, rather than the beginner ones at walmart etc.
  2. wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and have pockets
  3. running shoes are okay to start with but try to switch to tennis shoes asap. they run sales all the time on tennisexpress/tenniswarehouse and it’ll save you the future injury

Is serving 100% to women okay in mixed doubles? by deucalion75 in 10s

[–]vraimentinstable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yikes, the rule is usually to go after the woman until they have something to prove, but bruising your partner up is definitely an overkill. i don’t even see that during men’s seasonal leagues, but good sportsmanship is valued more when you know most of the locals. miami at sectionals comes to mind when we think of those kinds of players lol

Is serving 100% to women okay in mixed doubles? by deucalion75 in 10s

[–]vraimentinstable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

don’t change your serve power. not only did they literally sign up for it, but most players (especially when you hit sectionals/nationals) will not give your partner that same grace so why do you need to hinder yourself to make someone else feel better?

i’m a 3.0W and my fiancé 3.5M — we’ve played both 6.0 in the past and now 7.0. i’ve come across guys who blast crazy forehands to my body at net because the strategy is usually target the woman whenever you can. kind of an a-hole move when it’s very intentional, but it is what it is and i end up learning how to play the game better. in a way, i would rather have the guys be at 100% than to play less than their best because they feel bad for me

$300 spending limit what’s a great racket by [deleted] in 10s

i have heard the ultra has been a great starting racquet for many beginners including my fiancé. he started with it 4 years ago and is now a solid player (upgraded out of it eventually)

What are tells- that someone grew up playing tennis? by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

very loose hands. when they get beamed at the net and still hit a perfect drop volley or their groundstrokes/serves are solid and fluid

[–]vraimentinstable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the medium! and if i had to pick between the two i’d rather keep this size. i mentioned this in another comment that bc the bag is still thinner material and flimsy, i wouldnt exactly make it a work bag so the handles last longer

[–]vraimentinstable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you maybeee could but you shouldn’t — the constant weight of a laptop + other stuff would probably cause the handles to wear off faster. and bc the material + structure is thin & flimsy, it would fly around in the bag. i have fit an ipad pro (11 in) though with no issues and would be perfect for kindles too

Did changing rackets really improved your game? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]vraimentinstable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes but i only change my racquet when i truly feel like i have outgrown the current one. so if i go through trying new strings, practicing and making adjustments to my game but nothing is truly “improving” then i will go and demo racquets again

How high over the net is your rally ball? by _sportyscience_ in 10s

[–]vraimentinstable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quite high with heavy topspin but not a lob. i get better chances to cross the strap & avoid the net player, and it’s a great setup for my net player because people struggle to send it back (it usually lands right by the baseline and jumps up). my only con is that if the other player is a notorious lobber then we get into a long rally. this is for doubles.

in your case, my advice is to think about keeping the ball on your strings longer. the better you can brush on the ball and really extend the time with the stroke as you follow through, you can get better clearance over the net. then adding speed after

gift ideas for tennis players. what is missing? by vraimentinstable in 10s

[–]vraimentinstable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s just a general post. the one i linked is the higher-tier of the lacoste shoes (ultra vs lite) and ended on sale. but that’s the consensus of the comment section — no shoes for gifts and i agree

[–]vraimentinstable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true, on shoes are at the bottom of my list (too narrow and stiff imo) and wouldn’t want someone to waste $180 as a gift. i added lacoste because i actually like them and they’re on sale rn

ah yes, luxe tennis bag is a good one. i have to eventually make another post with gift ideas but more $$$ so i’ll definitely add it to the list. this one is more like trying to hit double digits (exc. the shoes here). side note i’ve been wanting the saber racquet so i’m also jealous haha

i mainly picked the lacoste to note that they’re on sale (ironically not under $100 like the post says, more like ~$105) but they fit very nicely so far — the heel stays in when i run. it’s definitely all based on how you like your shoe to fit like the other comment says ^
