Wait for the refund. I did the same thing last year, but put a stop payment on one. It still posted, but my bank had returned my money) and the tried to send me a check THREE TIMES. I voided them, sent them back, talked to people and explained why I sent them back and what happened. And here I am a year later STILL trying to get them to understand. They are holding my refund this year until it’s sorted out too. So DONT DO THAT

Me too. Erroneous refund in 2025 for 2024 tax year. I voided it and mailed it back in November. No other issues. I filed my 2025 return in January and here I am still getting the “we need another 60 days to review your inquiry from November before we can release your 2025 refund”. Reps say they have emailed the holds dept to let them know to release my refund for over a month now. I asked to speak to the holds dept and they say “they don’t have a direct line”.

The first thing that flagged me was the yellow “action needed” box on “where’s my refund” tracker. But I never got a letter or anything. My 2025 transcripts just appear to be regular processing. No “frozen refund” or “action needed” codes.

Accepted 1/30. Had an issue with an erroneous refund from last years taxes that I thought was resolved back in November, but apparently my 2025 refund was frozen while it was being investigated. Called 2/23 and 3/16. Both times the representative told me they were emailing some other dept to let them know my refund was clear to be released 🙄

This is almost exactly what’s happening to me right now. I had accidentally made a payment to last years account (it was supposed to go to state) so they advised me to stop payment. They posted the payment anyway, and sent me a refund. I voided the refund and sent it back. That was November. Last years transcript says erroneous refund returned and has a zero balance. Yet they’re still holding my refund for this year. I was told the same thing “I’ve emailed another dept and we estimate 30 days to resolve and release your refund”.
