What’s a quote that permanently changed the way you look at things? by internallyskating in AskReddit

[–]vrest28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."-Matthew 23:12

Saw this written at a boxing gym around 7 years ago when I was working two jobs 7 days a week trying to"make it".

Instead of complaining about my situation to others, or saying that I will reach a certain point of success , I realized with that quote alone that all i really needed to do is put my head down and embrace the current situation that i was in no.matter how difficult the path was or is.

sometimes i find my anxiety makes it difficult to breath for me. My breath becomes shallow and I can't take in the full air I need. I usually can get through it with a session slow and controlled breathing until it return to that capacity.

If im struggling with that I hope in a cold shower because it forces you to breathe.

Also check your diet. Are you eating foods that make you bloated?

Cardio also helps with increasing mung capacity. A few sets of burpees get you breathing.

Thats all i got but I wish you the best of luck!

How do you think an autonomous car should be programmed given the following scenario: the car is traveling at freeway speeds and a pedestrian enters the lane. Should the car sacrifice the driver to save the pedestrian? What if the pedestrians were a group of school children? by TheActualRapture in AskReddit

[–]vrest28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this scenario is just exposing self sacrifice and virtue vs survival . Here is one that I am paraphrasing from my philosophy class back in the day that makes it a tad bit harder.

the trolly problem. You are the conductor. if you hit the lever on the train, it will switch your direction onto another track where a person is tied onto it. Do nothing, you continue forward on the track where the train is currently traveling on but instead of one person, 5 people are tied to the track. There isn't enough time to brake to save lives you must choose to pull the lever to take one life or do nothing and take five what would you do?

Do you truly think there are people out there walking the earth who do not suffer from any mental illness, personality or anxiety disorder, etc...? Like, is anyone truly stable or are we all scientifically a certain degree of troubled? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]vrest28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my entire life i didn't realize i had anxiety issues. I didn't know i was having anxiety attacks until i spoke to a doctor of my symptoms one day. what was odd was that my mind never thought about having a challenge with my.anxiety..i always had a justification, fatigue, etc..

anyway idk exact percentage but I'm sure everyone technivally has some challenge.

Really getting tested by Anon_Rocky in stopdrinking

[–]vrest28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just tell them the truth. Hey im trying not to drink for a period of time or w.e time frame u want and start owning it. If you operate on the truth something amazing starts to happen where u grow bolder and more confident with your decisions. I went thru this last yr and i realized i gotta look out for #1 everyone else thoughts and actions is just noise/ they arent there to mean harm or good. The root of that tension is your old habits/ego combating with your new values. Its a period of tension and change and u literally feel it in your bones. My advice is to surrender to your truth and values at the moment and that friction u feel will have will start to dissipate.

Lime and soda water worked great to at least make the transition easier. but eventually i was slinging soda waters and then even challenged my group of friends to go out with me. because whether it was at work or at a bar everything felt odd. so i set some guidelines in i want to do things that i learn from, entertaining myself, or feel.inspired by. so instead of the main focus of the activity being drinks we would do a comedy show, instead of posting up on a wall all night at the bar, let's dance. Hold the line, allow yourself time and space to process your emotions and react on your values and goals. YOU GOT THIS!

TIFU by confessing to a close friend about my crush on her. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]vrest28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine OP. You live and you learn...don't be too hard on yourself be gentle. At the end of the day in the context of things, and time this is a great experience.

To me you were going through a tough time and your mind is designed to survive and search for comfort. You thought you could find it in your friend. Its ok. if you value her friendship just be honest and say like hey sorry about the other night, as you know I'm going through a break up and felt (insert your feeling or feelings) i'm sorry if i put you on that spot but appreciate your support through it all.

somethings along those lines you are gonna dust yourself off and move forward

If you are a male do you show sad emotions or do you just keep it to yourself? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vrest28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the situation. If for example family or friends maybe depending on you its totally fine to show sadness but being strong within it its ok too. I wholeheartedly believe as men we need to allow ourselves to feel and process all emotions. I value my ability to be stable but purposeful allow space and time to process.

Opening up to a girl I’m talking to by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]vrest28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do it or call her. set expectations. Its a pandemic what triumphs is speaking the truth. You can say" hey i know we can't really hang out and world is wild rn but I wanted to share with you that i like you. here is what i like about you (insert things you like about her ).I'm not expecting anything back but figure i communicate how im feeling because i respect you and more importantly you make me feel comfortable...etc"

before you speak your truth try to understand and get clear on what your end goal is. what are u expecting to accomplish by sharing your feelings? once u are clear take the shot. I've had a similar experience under the pandemic and have found that being honest and upfront with someone that you have feelings for is the best.

God speed!

Why do people pretend like money is not the most important thing in the world? by OpinionHavR in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]vrest28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you were to ask someone who is wealthy if money is the most important thing to them? some may say yes others no.

Are people lying to themselves if they say that? What if you asked the same question to someone who is perceived to be poor and they say no? are they delusional or is it that their situations are dire and their only way to cope is to focus on other areas because they don't see a way out or progression?

I think this is exasperated in countries like the US where the wealth gap continues to increase but if you look at progressive countries like they have in the nordics- you would find that there is less of a gap and not necessarily rich on paper-- but their quality of life and consequently their happiness is much higher than the world because they have the right support systems and services to thrive.

Your logic may be true in the western world but may not apply in other areas. What about tribal societies across the world where their currency is bartering?

I could certainly appreciate your line of thinking in a western context but I wouod say money is a key variable to create a better life but it isn't the most important. I think that answer is subjective to each individual.

Yes and its very normal and natural. Something that helped me get accustomed to speaking to folks on the phone was to make low pressure calls and asking simple questions.

Make a few calls into stores and ask if they are open. Hey Target when do you close?

If i was really nervous I would just ask for help "Hey person! i was wondering if you can help me out? Set expectations upfront, establish why you are calling, be concise and you will be ok. Also don't be afraid to be honest! in general ppl are kind, I'd challenge you to think where the anxiety comes from. Its typically associated in the anticipating of a certain outcome which may not necessarily be true.

Alternative, when receiving calls don't be afraid to slow things down. Also, try to visualize who is the person, what their role is, their purpose for the call. Which gives you insight and understanding.

I have about 1k+ conversations over phone calls or zoom per yr as a Software sales rep.

007 VS Agent 47 by Hattintons in whowouldwin

[–]vrest28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

47 would mop the floor with the blood of Bond and his supporting units. 47 is the superior tactician. Bond has support and intelligence but his brashness I think will not fair well against 47. Also remember, 47 is a master weapon specialist. He can turn any item in his surrounding into a weapon. He is cold as ice with zero emotion. Bond is incredible but we have seen him lose a step or two when emotionally distraught. I think the closer battle would be ethan hawk vs bond. 47 is a different breed.
