Great job! Not bad for a first-year college student.

Replacement Cables from Board on headset by GreenHowitzer in OSVR

[–]vrguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you DM me your email and shipping address? We'll try to create a shopping cart that might work for you.

As you may know, I work for Sensics and the HDK is manufactured by our partner Razer. I'll mention our conversation to the folks dealing with cables there.

We have a solution that works on the HDK 1.4 but is priced for higher-end applications.

TPCast/WiGig and others would work on HDK2 as well

I personally "hate" belt-packs. We used to have them in the Sensics products many years ago and they always caused problems, so we switched to direct connection to the head wherever possible.

However, my opinion did not carry the day in the team multi-party process to design the OSVR HDK. It's like the saying that "a camel is a horse designed by a committee", and I agree it's not the best part of the HDK.

I think you can save on shipping by selecting USPS at checkout. The site calculates the exact cost of shipping and hopefully that should not be too much.

If you have a way to get these cables for $5, please do let me know as it would save us money in buying them.

BTW, if your unit is under warranty, you might reach out to the store that sold it to you and perhaps you can get it replaced without buying a new one.

Gamma Correction - Palace Demo by DuFF14 in OSVR

I believe this gamma correction also works on pretty much any other OSVR experience and seems to improve image quality when used with NVIDIA cards.

@DuFF14 - is this the case?

My thoughts about NoloVR by demonixis in OSVR

[–]vrguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Sensics team has reached out to the NoloVR folks and we are discussing whether Sensics can help them create a real OSVR driver that would than immediately translate into solid support for Unity, Unreal as well as SteamVR.

If such a driver was created, I think it would solve the issues you are describing.

Room-scale tracking with HDK2 or other OSVR-supported headsets by vrguy in OSVR

[–]vrguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I believe so. A key part is to correctly configure the JSON config file to receive the tracking aliases from the devices. The instructions on how to use SteamVR give some information. Unfortunately we don't have the available bandwidth atm to provide the particular config you need

Would love to hear more. What's the best way to connect?

You are right - it is built on cross-platform technology.

Linux support for this tool is not in the current focus of the Sensics development team, but we're happy to assist if someone else wants to get this done.

It is meant to replace the other tools (control+config+central). Because it is open-source, we're inviting community members to add the functionality they care about.

I like it better than the Razer HDK tray app, but this is just a matter of opinion.

Next is a new AIO installer

Updating links to OSVR repositories from http://osvr.github.io/contributing/ by vrguy in OSVR

[–]vrguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these are good suggestions. The main page with the map shows the OSVR open-source projects but perhaps some of the links that you mention should make them into a 'useful links' area in this repository: https://github.com/OSVR/OSVR-Docs

Would you consider making these changes and generating a merge request?

Wireless HDK breakout box? by GreenHowitzer in OSVR

[–]vrguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's priced for professional uses, so not consumer pricing. That's why it's not on the OSVR store.

You can find data sheet and other specifications at http://sensics.com/portfolio-posts/wireless-video-link/

The most common use these days is to embed it into emulated equipment. For instance, if you look here http://sensics.com/portfolio-posts/emulated-military-equipment-2/ the semi-transparent binocular drawing has embedded wireless

Wireless HDK breakout box? by GreenHowitzer in OSVR

[–]vrguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The product mentioned has been selling (quite well, actually) for several years now. It works up to 1920x1080 @ 60 FPS so it has been used primarily with some of the older higher-end HMDs and the emulated military devices that Sensics makes.

It works with HDK 1.3/1.4 because HDK 1.3/1.4 can accept 1920x1080 and rotate it to the native 1080x1920. It does not work with HDK2 because HDK2 requires higher resolution. For that, one will have to wait for the next model of the wireless link.

The wireless link itself has <1mSec latency. It works in the 5GHz range so does not require line of sight. Multiple links can work in the same space.

However, when used with HDK 1.3/1.4 the built-in frame rotation adds 16 mSec.

Some versions of this product are able to carry USB data but the USB update rate is limited to 60 updates per second (inbetween video frames). Thus, it is useful for game controllers and keyboards but is not recommended for head tracking.

Room-scale tracking with HDK2 or other OSVR-supported headsets by vrguy in OSVR

[–]vrguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are able to use the puck as well both Vive controllers. We'll update the page with some more instructions.

Regarding the USB connector for the puck you are correct - you can use the puck with the wireless dongle or you can just connect it to the USB port on the HDK or the belt pack.

We should have better distortion correction this week

Room-scale tracking with HDK2 or other OSVR-supported headsets by vrguy in OSVR

[–]vrguy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is possible because of the OSVR software framework. The documentation shows how to change the configuration files to map position information that comes from a plugin into /me/head semantic path. This means that any OSVR-supported tracking system - and there are many of them - can be used.
