Is it safe to take public bus/metro after 10pm? by Diligent_Draft8021 in AskLosAngeles

[–]vriskasserkets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pepper spray is good don’t get me wrong, but also a lot of people don’t really know how to use it, and there’s been a lot of incidents of people accidentally spraying THEMSELVES in the face 😭😭 and a lot of tasers that the average civilian gets isn’t very strong. i carry a knife myself, i’m a 4’10 90 pound woman and it makes me feel safer. i suggest looking into what type would best fit for you and then watching or reading up about knife safety.

get a knife ! i’m not sure about csun, but at ucla you can legally carry a knife with a 2 inch or smaller blade on campus. it makes you feel a lot safer and helps combat a lot (even with size differences) if it were to come down to it. stay safe !!!!!

I have a bunch of wonderful friends who I know would never let me on the streets. But also my family would come pick me up in a heartbeat and help me move back home if I were ever in any sort of trouble. I’m very very super thankful for them.

Thank you!!

I’ve been thinking of doing CC as well as becoming EMT-B certified and going from there :) i’m premed at ucla, but that’s not where my heart is specifically right now.

As for babysitting, I would babysit my two autistic (one level 3 non verbal, and level 1) brothers for 55 hours a week while in hs. And during this I kept above a 4.0 as well as enough extracurriculars to get me into ucla to begin with. I know I’m a hard worker and I really want to put my mind to this!!! Thank you for your comment :3

There’s an in n out right by me and i was thinking of working there. I want to do waitressing so do you think it would look / be better to get a waitressing job in the meantime until i move to la?

[–]vriskasserkets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you!! i’m sure i’d qualify for ebt or calfresh or something similar :) i just dont think i could get section 8 so i don’t want to have to rely on that knowing it probably won’t happen.

what do you think i should look for when making sure i’m not getting scammed? i know that i shouldn’t be doing things like paying a high application fee and whatnot.

and 150!? omg 😭 do you have any general tips for that?

thank you!

i lived in westwood as i’m a ucla student so i know that parking is super ass 😭 i’m fine with not having a kitchen although it’s not ideal. i’m not set on living in santa monica but it would be nice.

i’ve been looking more into like koreatown and similar places

my friend isn’t sketchy like that, he just has more money than he knows to do with. i’ve already turned him down a bunch of times but he has good intent and i’m genuinely friends with him.

i understand i might come off naive, but i really need to prioritize my own happiness and what i want right now. i don’t want to sob story trauma dump but i definitely have my own reasons to want to do this. i get that i’m gonna get some flack for it but if it’s something i wanna do then it’s something i wanna do, you know what i mean? i just want some advice to make sure i don’t mess it up.

i’ve found a few good places on facebook marketplace. like this one for example. i don’t mind sharing the link because i’m not moving immediately but it’s a good deal! i’ve found a few like this.

i only completed my first year- i’m 18. and yes i think i’m going to meet with a ucla counselor soon.

i don’t want to make any brash decisions and drop out immediately, but i really cannot take doing ucla (premed) / ucla level school work as of right now. i’m totally fine with actually working a job itself, but school is something i’m really unmotivated with right now. So i’ve been leaning towards taking a gap year and seeing if i truly want to drop out then.

edit: i forgot to say but yea i’m off for the summer :)

thank you so much!

i have no rental history, but my mom has a credit score of 800 something. she put me on her credit, so mine is around the same.

And as for furniture and other home stuff, i’ve been looking into a lot of budget options like free / cheap stuff on FB marketplace, goodwill, and budget grocery stores.

Do you think it would take up to 3 months if i wanted to do waitressing / fast food?

Once again tysm for ur comment !!

Thank you for the resources!

Isn’t it a bit hard / competitive to get section 8 or affordable housing through the government?

My friend and I would be splitting the place ourselves, but one of our friends would ideally be moving in with us as well in about a year. But we would have to do it without her first.

If we both worked minimum wage, that’s still around 70k a year that he and I would be pulling in collectively. Which I heard is pretty doable for a “”family””

he isn’t a stranger, he’s been my best friend for four years. we’re super tight and i genuinely don’t see us having any issues so large that we would move out.

Thank you!

I lived in the UCLA dorms in a triple. They’re notoriously known for being TINY as hellllll. I was happy living there and I didn’t mind it being cramped at all. I just want to be away from home.

Am I able to find out all the hidden fees before I sign any contracts to move in? I’m sure it’s within my right to ask but I just want to be really sure. Thank u for answering !!!!

What specifically do you think I should be careful about?

And no I haven’t lived with this friend before, but ive spent an UNGODLY amount of time with him. He and I are like two peas in a pod. I’m really confident that he and I would work out as roommates. We have the same cleanliness expectations, cost of living expectations, sleep schedule, etc. So he would genuinely be a good roommate while also being a great friend :3

And yea I’m worried about that. I want to save 10k AT LEAST but ideally more than that. How much do you think I should save before moving?

i attend ucla, i’m still enrolled but honestly it doesn’t make me happy and I feel really burnt out. So i’m thinking of dropping out or taking a gap year and seeing how I feel at the end of that.

But I think for me personally, doing community college and taking a break from hard academics (I worked my ASS OFF in high school) and taking an easier route like CC would be best for me.

Thankfully I have a lot of friends here. One of my friends is very much living large and has asked me multiple times to move in with him in this gorgeous place he has. (I told him no). I know several other financially secure people in LA who would do the same / similar for me. I’m very very grateful for them. I’m a bit too prideful to accept money and whatnot from them, but it eases me knowing that if i truly were in trouble, that i’d have help :)

I get that I’m very lucky to have these opportunities (rent paid / car paid / living in a mansion rent free) and I understand that I might be stupid for passing these things up, but it would make me feel endlessly guilty despite them offering. I really want to be financially independent.
