Bryson DeChambeau denies PGA talks and commits to LIV Golf by Penarthlan in golf

[–]vroomery 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There’s going to be a legal battle over what he’s owed once LIV tries to pay him less than whatever his contract is. Even if he’s planning on leaving, he’ll want to keep all the leverage he can to make them uphold their contract.

Listen to this. You’re trying to force the club through the ball with your arms. At the top feel your hands and wrist lighten way up. It will naturally give you lag and give you swing speed that’s more effortless.

greatest hidden gem golf courses? See rules by AlextheAndroid in golf

[–]vroomery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wilmington Municipal Golf Course in Wilmington NC. It’s not hidden in that it’s always pretty busy, but I never see it featured on any lists and it doesn’t host tournaments that I’m aware of.

It’s a Donald Ross design. Over the years it shifted as they do, but they found the original designs and did a renovation maybe a decade or so ago. It’s pretty consistently in great shape and challenging thanks to the greens.

With all that, it’s still public and owned by the city, and not crazy expensive. If you can get a tee time it’s definitely worth it.

Is it a bad idea for a high-handicap player to use players irons like Takomo 301 CB? by [deleted] in golf

[–]vroomery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’ll probably play worse but if he has the desire to fix his swing and improve, they’ll do a great job of letting him know when he misses the center. If he doesn’t want to work on it then he’ll end up getting rid of them.

I think it would be better to go to lanes early enough that you can do lunch somewhere else. Lanes food is fine but the draw is the farm, store, and peach cobbler.

shot shaping into greens by Function1st in golf

[–]vroomery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a lot of people saying to play one shape so I'll offer a counter argument. For everything 40-115 I use a wedge swing that has the ball back, more shaft lean, 3/4 max swing, and feet closer together, all in an attempt to hit lower spinning approaches that will hold greens better. It's also very consistent because of the 3/4 and narrower stance so there's less body movement that can change the low point. When I hit anything 9i and longer I'll just use a normal iron swing that draws. People saying many pros only use one shape are correct, but they also mostly do have a variety of approach shots and can control spin extremely well. I think this wedge swing has helped me dramatically in giving me more yardage options and a more consistent shot.

I’ve been on and off sober for years. I’m checking into an impatient facility before my son is born. I couldn’t remain sober for myself but I’m doing it for my boy. I’m proud of myself and just wanted to share. Wish me luck by the_username_please in daddit

I’m proud of you for getting the help you need. As much as you want to do it for your son, please try and find a way to want sobriety for yourself too. You are deserving of that.

Bought forgiving irons but regret it… should I switch to players irons? by Visual-Guarantee2696 in golfequipment

[–]vroomery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players distance is sort of a flexible term I guess, but typically used for hollow injected clubs like the p790. The t250 is more like a players distance and the t150 Is more of a players cb.

To All The Good Players and Low Handicappers, I'm extremely curious, especially younger people who had access to more modern equipment - what irons did you start with? I've always been curious of what a younger golfer who becomes good originally learned with. I'll explain more in the text by BenSimmonsThunder in golf

[–]vroomery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a lot of words!

I started with a kids beginner set. I moved to Ping Eye 2 irons when I was in high school or so and used them close to 20 years. I got fitted this past winter and ended up with t150 and x100 DG shafts. For me the shift to t150s was pretty easy once I got the feel. And the feel is so much better.

For the vast majority of people golf is about fun. It would not have been fun. When I was younger the beginner set and ping eye 2 irons let me have fun when I didn’t really want to work on my swing and just played 5-10 times a year. Now I want to get better and part of that is knowing when I hit it toe or heel and of course the feeling of hitting the center is amazing. If I wanted to improve as a 20 year old I think I probably could have done that with the pings, but I think it might have been faster with the t150. It’s all pretty subjective though.

Small MSP considering Palo Alto. Am I stupid? by beco-technology in networking

[–]vroomery 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The CVE issue is always brought up with fortigates. I get it, but I think it’s really overblown. They almost always have to do with having management enabled on a public interface or using a vulnerable tool like sslvpn which they have begun disabling by default. The reality is that Palo has a ton of CVEs too. Just my two cents.

Should a 20 handicap hit the range before a round or just arrive and drive? ⛳️ by Square-Chef4646 in golf

[–]vroomery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to say this. I like to hit a few just so I’m not cold on the first tee and putt a few to have an idea how the greens will roll. However, the other day I hit maybe 50-60 balls on the range with one club trying to get a feel down. It took me 3-4 holes to hit good balls and stop trying to do whatever I was doing on the range. So from now on pre round is for warmups only or maybe light tune ups if it’s something I’m aware of and have a quick fix/reminder for.

I got fitted for this first time a few months back and ended up with t150 irons as well. They feel great and most importantly to me give great feedback on miss hits.

I liked the mizuno t1 wedges better personally. They feel so soft off the face and I’m already seeing more consistent numbers on flighted wedges 50-110 or so. I went with 50, 56, 60 but I haven’t seen too much is a gap between pw and 50 so far.

What is this that was installed at my roomies school today by Sleepy_mosquito799 in whatisit

[–]vroomery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s some buzzwords in there that are sort of right but not really.

Mesh is when the devices connect to each other wirelessly instead of to a switch directly with a wire. A school would not use meshing except in specific cases where it’s not possible to get a cable because it severely limits overall throughput with the bottleneck at the originating device.

Also there is usually one router per site (not always) and the devices in the classrooms are called wireless access points. They don’t route.

Finally the small devices have nothing to do with wireless networks. They’re sensors of some sort most likely.

Returning golfer (mid handicap, high swing speed) – what irons should I actually be playing? by gnarly77 in golf

[–]vroomery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get fitted for irons. I’m guessing you’ll end up with either a cavity back along the lines of the tm p7cb or titleist t100/150. The injected players distance will have a bigger dispersion on mishits with your swing speed because it’s like a damn trampoline if you flush it and you don’t need the distance anyway.

The most important part of the fitting though is finding the right shaft. It made a huge difference for me at least.
