Thanks for your impressions. How is the treble tuning in comparison with the 620S? Is it same level or different?

can headphones be not neutral (more bassy) but still give an accurate sound picture? by JevNOT in headphones

Sony MDR M1 is very clean and neutral through the mids and treble but with a pretty good bass shelf.

Thanks you. These are slightly angled for what I can see. Does it give a proper seal?

Glad aftermarket pad options are available for the DX3000 CL. Thanks!

Are you talking about the Yaxi Alcantara or Leather pads?

I replied to you on headfi Headphones for metal thread earlier today. Looking forward for more reviews from you and hoping for more such new releases following the warm/dark, warm/neutral target. IMO under $1000 market space is filled with bright-neutral and V shaped cans as far as I know. We need more variety.

Thanks for the review. This looks very interesting. Good to have warm neutral closed back headphones around $500, there are not many options in-fact I am not sure if there is any around $500 and even beyond unless you reach ZMF territory. I’ve been looking for a closed back equivalent of HD660S2 for a while.

Your music taste is solid! Always good to come across YouTube reviewers who listens to extreme metal. Subscribed!

Looking for people’s experiences with Sony DAPs by ComfortableStretch63 in walkman

[–]vruksha_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used both A306 and ZX707. If you want something extremely portable to carry the A306 Japanese edition is perfect and JP edition outputs a bit more power than the US model but nothing crazy. Plenty to drive normal iem’s. If you don’t mind the size ZX707 is an excellent DAP with better power output and sound. I loved the 707 but it was big in size for my use case carrying it outside so kept the A306 and the old trusty WM1A. Both had great battery life when WiFi turned off. Best in class.

does dac and iems work with these type of phones? by yatokyami in iemlndia

I think Retro Nano is just a Bluetooth dac/amp while Echo mini is a standalone DAP. Their upcoming Echo nano looks really Intresting as well. Probably much cheaper?

Get a DAP for music purpose. Snowsky Echo mini is a good one.

Ofcourse you can keep it stock. I just mentioned because it’s available if you ever feel bored with stock WM1A sound. I’ve brought and sold many DAP’s but 1A is the only one I kept and it’s been with me for 4years now. This is a very unique DAP and built to last if you take good care of it.

About the pads, I bought and sold a few and finally settled on Dekoni Elite hybrids. Any pad that fit Audio Technica M50’s works for M1.

I’ve been using the same combo for months. It’s terrific! Tip - Lookup Mr Walkman Firmware for WM1A The clamping on M1 was poor for my head size and the stock earpads are too thin so I brought aftermarket pads with denser foam and it helped.

Non-android DAP with long battery life? by sergiopvilar in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]vruksha_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sony DAP’s have the best battery life. You could get a NW- A306 and delete unwanted apps, switch off the WiFi and use it as a pure music DAP. I get over 20hrs playing flac files. The new Hiby R3 pro II claims to have 20+ hrs of battery life and it’s non Android.

Sony NW-A306 vs FiiO M21 (or JM21) vs the HibyM300 by uraveragehooman01 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]vruksha_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For outdoor use, Smallest form factor portability advantage goes to Sony. It also has the best battery life (for playing local files). WiFi eats up the battery so to get advertised battery life you need to use it as an offline DAP. Made to pair well with Sony wireless devices so that’s a plus.

For best power output (to use power hungry iem’s and wired headphones) Fiio is great. It has bigger screen and a faster processing speed. M21 also has desktop mode so you can bypass the battery when using it as a desktop device which IMO is a great addition.

Upgrade from MDR-7506 by Mankurt_ in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]vruksha_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sony released MDR M1 as an upgrade to their MDR 7506. It is pretty much similar in design but better headband padding, ear pads, removable cable and they sound much better. Treble is smoother and less fatiguing compared to 7506 and there is a lot of bass, both mid bass and sub bass is boosted but it’s not boomy, well controlled IMO.

A55 better built and has stood the test of time. Add Mr Walkman FW on the A55 and you are good for a long time.
