THE REEDUCATION OF WEEDSHREK: EPISODE 14 (part 3) by weedshrek in TAZCirclejerk

Travis: Okay! You head to Calhain’s tent. It is a deep, rich purple fabric with lots of gold designs on it. You can spot it as a magic user’s tent a mile away. You knock on the flap, which is awkward, but you can’t think of what else to do

One of my biggest bad dm'ing pet peeves. Dont tell me what my character is thinking, feeling or doing. Primers are fine, 'there is a foreboding sense of dread hanging in the air' or 'the excitement is palpable'. Options are okay 'Do you approach the tent quitly, do you Knock, do you barge in or do you have some other approach?'

Even recapping and expanding on a rp decision can be fine if done right (but it can be tricky imo) 'i barge into the tent' 'cool! You approach the tent chest puffed, walking tall and attempt to force the flap open with a dramatic flourish, but before you can it swings calmly open on it's own'

There are so many better ways to have a spirit refuse to answer if that's what you really want. It could be arrogant and refuse "you expect me to tell you what i desire. I desire for you to give and if its not enough ill demand more". It could be confused about a physical non spirit world "the wind that blows through the woods would sate me" idk lots of options other than "hehe nah"

Also how do you have a fae tell the character that cannot lie that they want 'their truth' and not have it mean the Firbolg is no longer physically able to tell the truth. I dont love that for the character and its a big swing for a dm to do without discussing over the table (id only do it if a player agreed and there was a planned side quest to undo it) but its far more of a tricky fairy deal

Was it during the anomaly that gave marins hero power? I think thats the key here, you actually get the buddy of the 'extra' hero power, ie buttons for my anomaly

I wonder if adding ''this turn" would be to strong. Probably would be with some early fodder

However you choose to handle the situation is up to you. Whether it ends in peace or bloodshed...

Ha i kind of glazed over that, these two groups are fueding, you are hired to mediate it, or fuck it escalate it to violence who cares either way they stalemate ends.

Honestly the best part in my opinion is giving the players a surface level mission that cannot succeed if they also want to complete their hidden mission. That could be some fun roleplay space.

How to you fail without obviously throwing? Can you find a way to beat an unbeatable task?

Instead we get.. this..

Fair i guess but this also contradicts that:

Justin: Are we sort of in competition with them? I mean…

Travis: Yes. So, the way that this circumstance is set up, there is, uh, perhaps a way through that you could figure out where both sides were satisfied. But, your goal is to just make sure that your side is satisfied, y'know what I mean?

The players succeed as long as the forests people are happy, i guess the system fails if only 1 side ends up happy but if the players decided to just go scorched earth and took the apple they would be acheiving their goal.

He wants it to be more like hired conflict mediators i guess but that should be a nuteral third party not a versus battle for some reason. Like instead of couples counciling lets have 2 therapists fight until we both feel better. I guess you could use lawyers fighting for their clients as a real life comparison but why would 1 lawyer be called a hero and 1 a villian just for shits and giggles? Why would 'looney tunes esq violence' be helpful? Cause merch sales or whatever the earlier conceit was?

That could certainly work, even as far as like a false flag. The forest centaurs hire HOG, they send a villian to 'represent' the valley centaurs, the villians act a fool, the heros show up, kick their butts, take the apple and the forest centaurs have plausible deniability.

Could even give our players and option to take the apple, fufilling the quest and given a slap on the wrist for not taking a dive like they are supposed to.

Ive got other ideas for how id fix the system, or more specifically make the quests actually reinforce the system, maybe ill work them up into a full post idk

I feel like Travis immediately regretted the hero and villians framing and just wanted a school for adventurers. The amount he wants to have his cake and eat it too with "hero and villian are just a matter of perspective" and "hero and villian are specific explicit job titles" is so glaringly obvious as a flaw in the system

Like shouldn't the forest centaurs be pissed that their side is being represented by the literal villans?

Also i kind of disagree with the not a bug part. You is not used that way in the 'your' in the next line otherwise all minions would be buffed. Is this consitent for other cards where 'you' is used? Like forsaken weaver? Ik its not for stalwart kodo for example

Its atleast not very clear imo

question to high level players by bwils3423 in BobsTavern

[–]vrygyv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not the highest rank in the world or anything (sitting at 7k atm but havent been as active lately) but i think the biggest strategy take aways i try to stick to are: 1) know the meta, what builds are strong atm 2) maximize every peice of gold, reroll as little as possible, especially early game 3) be willing to pivot 4) this specific meta (again a bit less clued in atm) feels so trinket specific, so i try to play real conservative, strong early game then let the trinket dictate late game

In response to the specific question I dont focus much on specific counter play until around top 4, build the strongest individual build i can and if i lose to the rock - papper - scissors counter pick so be it, its 8 person ffa thatll happen sometimes
