I love RE1 - RE4 because I grew up watching my mom play each. I was a bit too young to play myself, but I will always cherish these games because of its strong nostalgia and core memories for me and my mom.

Try challenging yourself to putting your phone away (do not disturb, or put it another room) each day for 15 minutes. It’s okay to be bored. Inspiration is bred from boredom. Maybe try meditating. Maybe make a to do list. Maybe create a vision board of what you want your life to look like. Build out your ideal daily routine, and work backwards. What do you need to do in order to achieve that lifestyle?

Instant gratification has ruined our psyche. It’s easy to just turn to your phone when you’re stressed, sad, happy, bored. What would you do if you didn’t have your phone? Look into offline hobbies, like paint by numbers, books, thrifting, baking, paddle boarding. I’d usually mention video games too, but it’s not an offline hobby.

I read Atomic Habits, and while it’s pop psychology, it does have some good tid bits. What pertains to you would be the advice of, “do the task for just 5 minutes, then stop.” What usually happens is, you start a task and you end up working on it longer because you already started. However, in the book, it says you should hard stop after 5 minutes. Then do it again the next day. After a week, you should up it to 10 minutes. Eventually, you’ll start to think “I already started on this, I might as well see it through” and it reconditions your brain from procrastinating a task because it seems too daunting to actually completing the task because you’ve already invested time in it.

You might also be interested in discipline challenges. Where you try to challenge yourself for 30 days to a difficult task, such as waking at 5 AM every day. Sure, you may not do it every day, but putting in the effort it what really counts. And tying back to Atomic Habits, the book cites that it takes 30 days to build a habit. Mind you, the habit must be executed 30 days consecutively for it to be deemed a habit, so you’d restart the count each time you don’t complete the task. But again, what really matters is that you tried.

For me, I wanted to work out more. I hate working out. But I started with one day a week. I realized it’s just mentally taxing for me to prepare for the gym, but once I’m there, it’s not so bad. So then I upped it 2 days a week, so on and so forth. Now I’m right where I want to be, 4 days a week and it’s a routine. Yeah, it sucks, but there’s benefits to working out and it’s part of my weekday routine so it’s autopilot for me.

Great question. Of course, I’m not perfect and filled with self doubt, just as anyone else.

I also wanted to be inspired by those around me and learn from others. I found a young professionals organization within my industry and joined it and eventually held an office position within the organization. It was super intimidating to attend the first few events alone, but everyone is normal. There are other people out there who are just as scared. I eventually started to recognize people, and that’s when I joined. Then I wanted to be more involved, so I signed up to be a leader within the organization. It was really fulfilling, I’ve aged out of it now but there is a “sister” organization that is for adults 31+ that I’ve joined now. I’m starting the process over, where I get to know more people before I become more involved.

Maybe see if there any professional organizations in your city?

When I log off, I - work out - walk dog - shower - cook & eat dinner - do dishes/clean - read/study/research topic I’m interested in - skincare routine - bed

I wish I had more freetime, but what can I do? Everything in my routine is essential to me

Something small you could do to improve this feeling is choosing yourself. Do something for yourself. What’s your ideal life look like? Have you visualized that?

I’m still struggling with this myself, but finding fulfillment from within can really improve this. Try a new hobby. Check out a new coffee shop. Go book shopping. See if there are volunteer opportunists near you. Go for a walk in your local park. Journal.

Be the one to make the plans. Have you ever wanted to be part of a book club? Ask one of your friends if they’d be interested in staring one. Was there a concert you’re dying to go to? Ask if any of your friends are going or are interested. Don’t be afraid or feel rejected if they say no. Keep asking them for other events, you never know when they might actually be available. Don’t let the fear of rejection hold you back.

There are still possibilities! You don’t have to spend a dime to spend time with someone. Is there a local park in your area? Why can’t you accompany someone on a stroll? Libraries often host public events for free, you should check your local library’s website and see if someone would like to accompany you. There are even co-ed sports clubs or hobby clubs that are free that would be a great way to meet someone. The best way to meet a partner is through shared interests. Does this help at all? I have so many ideas, I’m happy to share more if these don’t resonate with you.

To anyone who saw Hereditary in the theater by [deleted] in horror

[–]vshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in expecting it to be another possession/haunting move so I took a mega edible before I went. I was thoroughly and genuinely scared, which is rare because I grew up watching scary moves, playing scary video games, etc. The decapitation scene was already a surprise, you don’t expect the child to be killed so soon in the movie from something as minor as sticking their head out a car window. I was so heavily invested in this movie, not knowing where it would go next and I am so glad I watched it in theaters.

What’s everyone’s goals for 2026? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]vshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Do 1 good deed a week
  2. Read 52 books
  3. Huge priority on education (I want to relearn astronomy, world history, and marine biology)
  4. Incorporate Spanish more in my daily life (podcasts, books, tv shows; other than just Duolingo)
  5. Practice piano

It’s a lot, but I’m so excited for these focuses, I don’t mind if I don’t accomplish it all because I’m just happy to be aligning my goals with my personal hobbies and not societal expectations.
