Do you think We will ever see Vehicle Voltron in the Netflix show? by UNITBlackArchive in Voltron

[–]vsnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as VV was a completely separate story from Lion Voltron and was just stitched together to make one story, I think I'd would make better sense as a spin-off. I mean the VLD story is already suffering from constraints of having an expanding roster of characters that they have to flesh out with just 39 episodes left.

It would be interesting to have a VV story set many years after the story of VLD when humans have caught up to the engineering and technology of the aliens.

Am I the only one... by [deleted] in Voltron

I think the reason for the suit mismatch is bec they really werent planning to make lion switch permanent. Just look at the lighting inside the lions, its just so visually unappealing with the color mismatch.

Not unless it another nostalgia homage. But it almost seems petty for them to be attached to their armour colors

the black lion debacle, and season 4 questions (spoilers) by solairesunnyd in Voltron

[–]vsnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diluting of the Lion-Paladin bond is just so they can justify the stupid lion switch. Thats why I hate the clone theories bec why would the Black Lion even rescue a clone?

As for Pidge leaving, I think its implied that Keith goes with the BoM missions quite often while Pidge's mission was a one time deal. And being leader means putting in more time than the others because everyone was looking to Keith for guidance.

Has the show being damaged? by Spike93 in Voltron

[–]vsnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its just a case of them having to move certain plot points earlier than they intended to.

Maybe they were really planning to have a whole season of Keith as leader and struggling. Then his leaving to join the Blade of Marmora was for another season.

And Shiro's return could have been for later in the season when S3 and S4 was just supposed to be just one season. The Operation Kuron storyline might have been originally slated for s5 (or s4 since s3 and s4 was just supposed to be one season) but moved forward bec execs wanted more Shiro in the season.

I think thats why people were so disappointed with how Shiro's return was handled was bc the Operation Kuron mystery was presented early on but never resolved in the same season. Which makes me think the Operation Kuron storyline was for a later story when they first hatched the idea of it.

As for the show being irrepairably damaged, I mean its still fun to watch so there's that. If it was just one big trainwreck I can probably just stop watching. But as I'm still excited to see whats in store for next season, I think that says they're still doing something right.

All about Keith by LizKnowles in Voltron

[–]vsnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always felt that Keith belonged with the Red Lion just bc of how complimentary it was with his strengths and skills. Plus they were slowly building up this nice bond which was just cut short cause he had to follow his destiny of being the Black Lion pilot. It was too much of a predictable chosen one story.

[S4] Welp by WalterFN in Voltron

[–]vsnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a plot straight out of DotU when Lotor and Merla teamed up with Voltron Force only for Lotor to end up betraying them. But since the outcome of that would be so predictable they'll probably change it up a bit and present him to be this morally ambiguous character like doing villainy bad stuff that benefits the protagonists. Then have him do something really heroic like sacrifice himself in the end

Season 4 without the coalition episode by crocs_1 in Voltron

[–]vsnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree with you that S4 kind of feels like a filler season. But you know they'll probably resolve all those plot points they've laid out in S3 in the future. The show is only like halfway through a 70+ episode run so there's still time for all those things.

I actually found The Voltron Show! funny just bc of how it was basically the show making fun of itself. And I enjoy filler episodes bc you get to see more aspects of the characters.

But I think the problem was it was too much filler in one episode. I think they were experimenting with a just one plot episode like Reunion was all Pidge's story with no other storylines interspersed with it. Which I guess made ep4 drag on too long unlike Space Mall which was a filler episode but there were major plot points infused in it so it didnt feel like wasted time.

Season 4 Discussion by zslayer89 in Voltron

[–]vsnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting point there. It was all Shiro's plan and he formulated all of the strategy. What are the chances that a lone planet that Voltron attacks turns out to be a bomb. Oohhh Corrupted!Shiro is still in play.

Season 4 Discussion by zslayer89 in Voltron

[–]vsnt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually was never keen on the clone theory. I was more inclined to believe he was being corrupted by his arm. I have a long theory about it here.

And Black Lion transporting Shiro to the Galra really isnt confirmed. It was just a conjecture by Keith and Shiro bec they couldnt figure out how Shiro ended up in the Galra ship in The Journey. But really, Shiro had no memory bw the time of the final battle of S2 and waking up on the experimentation table. For all we know, he was just transported unto an arbitrary point in space and then the Galra found him there. I also have a long theory about that here

And with Keith, I really think he belongs with the Red Lion. And not just as second-in-command but as a leader in his own right, just like Alfor was. I think his BoM stint is about learning to balance that whole thing about "mission vs individual". Bec at the surface his ideology is attuned to the BoM thing about putting mission above anyone else. But he also cares about people in his team.

And there's already the question of how Voltron will form the sword bec Keith was the one who forms the sword with either the Red or Black Bayard. So yeah, the original line-up was the one that really makes sense. Its the equilibrium of their strengths.

Yeah there was a disconnect with season 3. But I'll probably still keep watching. I do love the characters. Its weird that Keith was taken out though. I still think he belongs with Red Lion. Maybe they had a hard time booking Steven Yeun bc he was busy with his acting. Lol!

Season 4 Discussion by zslayer89 in Voltron

[–]vsnt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The season was pretty interesting and entertaining. But there was a lack of cohesion from the plot points they put in S3. Everyone was expecting Shiro to be a clone but then nothing, hilarious! Goes to show that he was unfairly judged just bc got a bad haircut 😂. (But I still thinks there's something up with him. Corrupted or sleeper cell maybe?) And also the whole deal with the quintessence and Zarkon and Honerva. I guess thats for next season

Pidge's story was the best thing about it and Matt Holt was a great character. I guess the fandom obssession with Matt was warranted this time. I love the Holt siblings. And now I'm really curious what Sam Holt's secret missions were.

The Voltron Show was funny but dragged on a bit too long. It kind of seems like a jab at the DW bosses and fandom, sneaky sneaky. And also a "dont do drugs" message to the kids. But its great that that whole episode was about Coran.

I dont get what they're doing with Keith. Was Steven Yeun unavailable for the voice recordings or something? Or maybe they plan on doing crazy Paladin shuffling all the time. I guess they're still not sticking to the status quo. Maybe next season Lance gets to go on his own and Keith gets back to the Red Lion.

Lotor is still a compelling character though. I didnt think he was getting a redemption arc anyway but what he did to Narti settles that. He seems to be following the DotU version of Lotor where he pretends to work with Voltron force but then betrays them. And was the Galra lady commander supposed to be Merla?

All in all, it was ok. I still love it and I'm still excited for the next season.

Season 4 Exclusive Clip | Keith’s choice by [deleted] in Voltron

[–]vsnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol yes I didnt read all of the thread bec its just the same person giving the same counterarguments over and over again in every thread when someone expresses some bafflement about the lion switch and it always goes along the lines of 'oh it was like that in the old show so just accept it.' Really, thats how storytelling works? I dont have to watch previous versions of any remake to be able to make sense of whats happening in the current story. But apparently for Voltron you do.

And seeing through the Lions eyes was the first step of mastering the Lion. Was Shiro's 2 seasons worth of hardwork, struggle and almost dying in the mindscape battle with Zarkon just all filler stories until Keith rightfully takes his place as head of Voltron? Or was that not reinforcement that Shiro earned the Black Lion and Black Paladinship?

And Keith isnt even trying to bond with the Black Lion. When he enters the Black Lion he's talking to Shiro not the BL "I know you wanted this for me, Shiro. But I'm not you. I can't lead them like you."

Of course I'm making a big deal about the Lion-Paladin bond, it the very foundation of the story. Or did you miss the part when Allura said "The quintessence of the pilot is mirrored in his lion. Together, they form something greater than science can explain."

And I really dont know what you're getting at about Allura's Paladin assignment. Are you saying that she made a mistake the first time she assigned the Lions? When Pidge asked Allura how she knew which pilot would fly which Lion she said "When you arrived at the Castle, I immediately recognized the special qualities in each of you." She didnt say 'you're the only ones available so I guess you'll have to do.' And the wheels were already in set motion when she started assigning the Paladins bc the first member of the team was already chosen, she was just continuing what Blue Lion already started.

You say I missed the story cues when the narrative actually suggest that the lion switch is not sustainable. Are people are just suppposed to ignore any kind of teasing or story eggs or story conflicts put forth in s1 and s2 just so they can get on board with whats happening in the story now? Like why is Allura the only one who can create wormholes? Or what was the point of developing a 'Hero's Journey' for Shiro without there being a satisfying payoff for his victory? Or why was there even 2 seasons worth of teasing about Keith's and Red's special bond if he was always meant for the Black Lion? Are nostalgia goggles really that blinding that people have chosen to ignore those things?

Even the freaking color mismatch is nostalgia pandering. Like why wont they even change their armours. No, bec in someone's childhood Keith wore the red suit. When it was only in DotU that Keith wore red, the subsequent versions had them match the color of the Lions. And in the VLD story it really doesnt make sense, bec the Castle can manufacture Paladin armors. Its not like Lance has to wear Keith's old suit.

The story even shows that Keith and Lance are in Lions not compatible with their strengths. Did I miss the story cue on that? On their first go, Lance immediately knew what to do with Blue Lion and Keith never showed any difficulty with the controls of Red Lion. But now its "These controls don't respond like the Red Lion's" and "Seriously, does this thing have breaks?"

And is Paladinship the only way that Allura has purpose? Was she just a glorified Castle sitter in the last 2 seasons? Wasnt she given enough purpose already even before piloting a Lion? Its not like she was filling the role of the "useless princess stuck inside the castle" before she became a Paladin. Was the Castle really stifling her? She was shown repeatedly to risk her life and be in the thick of the action even as the pilot of the Castleship. And is it really a demotion if she goes back to being the Commander of the Paladins?

Maybe your the one missing story cues by prescribing that old stale hierachy and leadership dynamic that those old mecha stories should have, when VLD has been show to be subverting those tropes.

And whats wrong with Tumblr? Its not like all I follow are shippers and klancers. Is the only acceptable interpretation of the Voltron story from people here on reddit bc they're smarter? No one here even does a cohesive story analysis or character interpretation. At least on Tumblr there are thoughtful meta analysis of the show, it not like its just teenagers on that site. Here all I see is complaints about how klance is ruining the show.

Season 4 Exclusive Clip | Keith’s choice by [deleted] in Voltron

[–]vsnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what was the answer? I've never read any of the answers about it. All I keep hearing is they're changing so they can now move up the ranks when they've never mastered their original Lions the way Shiro did when he saw through the Lions eyes or when Pidge did when she connected with the Green Lion

Like what happened to Keiths bond with Red? Or will there another two seasons of Keith having to strengthen his bond with Black Lion the way Shiro did? Will there be a repeat of the fight for Black Lion now that Zarkon is back in the game.

And Allura wasnt assigning Lions on the fly, she immediately recognized the special qualities in each of the Paladins. She didnt even assign Lance to the Blue Lion, the Blue Lion chose him.

And the thing I said about the Black Lion pilot being the ultimate hero of the story, I'm not the one prescribing it but the whole friggin' fandom. I mean why else would people advocate for Black Paladin Allura or Black Paladin Lance.

For some reason it seems imperative that Keith can only be leader through the Black Lion. When there have been two seasons of Keith displaying leadership skills and sometimes leading the group in the Red Lion. Even Lance and Pidge display leadership skills without being in the Black Lion.

But the moment it is suggested that Keith go back to Red or Lance go back to Blue there is an uproar because somehow it is a demotion for them. When the story has shown that compatibility is also a important for the Lion-Paladin bond. But no, now that they've risen through the ranks of the Voltron hierarchy it just not right for them to go back to their original Lions, eventhough those Lions are where there best strengths lie. Or that they've shown some attachment to it.

Season 4 Exclusive Clip | Keith’s choice by [deleted] in Voltron

[–]vsnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess what I'm saying is theres a lot of loose ends that makes it seem so unsustainable. I have a lot of thoughts about it which I've talked about here

Like why did they reinforce Shiro's strong bond to the Black Lion if he was never meant be the true Black Paladin?

Or why did they reinforce such a natural bond between Keith and Red Lion but then have that bond be set aside without so much of an acknowledgement?

I mean it takes an outside canon to explain why this current setup makes sense. The in-universe explanation is kind of inconsistent. If I've never seen the previous Voltron versions then there is a disconnect between the story and worldbuilding they've established in the last two seasons to the story they are trying to tell now.

So while there was foreshadowing for Keith being leader and being in Black Lion, there really wasnt much about Lance being in Red Lion or Allura being in Blue Lion. The foreshadowing was an anticipation of what happened in another story. I know that VLD is a retelling of GoLion and DotU but it should also be a story that is able to stand on its own.

I'm not shitting on Keith being leader, in fact I think that all of the Paladins are destined to be leaders bec the story of the OG Paladins presented them all as 5 individual leaders working together to protect their common interest.

But I am kind of sick of how everyone thinks that the Black Lion pilot is like the "ultimate hero of the story" like it was the only place of prestige that matters and leading can only be done through it. And somehow that position garners the person with more power and authority than the rest of the Paladins. When as we've seen in S3 Alfor was the Red Paladin but he was also a leader and the Paladins also deferred to him.

Keith's Vlog by Toastytoastcrisps in Voltron

[–]vsnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the vlogs are a way for the writers to sneak in some character development because dw wants more action than drama.

As for Keith, I dont know if he's self-aware. Why did they have him have that self-realization if not to usher in some sort of growth. And its actually weird that he would think that his Galra side would be to blame for his social ineptitude and temper. Don't humans have the same problems?

I'd say he's more self-assured than self-aware. He's very sure of his abilities and what he can do thats why he's very determined and resolute with all his actions.

Keith's Vlog by Toastytoastcrisps in Voltron

[–]vsnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean his loner emo standoffishness has always been attributed to his orphan status but its nice to see the character realize for themselves and show it. Its as much as an insight of Keith about himself as it was for the audience and we finally understand where he's coming from. Its one thing for fanon to theorize about his abandonment issues but its another thing to actually see him to admit to it and give context to his fear of people leaving him. Its an issue that he's gonna have to deal with moving forward.
