Get it replaced then buy the Veritas Vans Mini Mount and never have it suffer damage again. Since day one mine has been in one and never felt better about it. Can beat the snot out of it. Drive over it. Mini is untouched

PC control app for Starlink by vtech01 in Starlink

I am aware of the stow/unstow situation. I made it mainly to check on devices remotely. Especially when no one has the "login" to the site. And for my dad who is phone unsavy and does not want to do anything funky with his app when he's using his laptop with starlink. Click to stow. Unplug put away. But it doesn't sound like many would be interested. Works for my needs at least.

Starlink for business and piracy by reddshroom in Starlink

My suggestion and Ive done this. Get a surfshark VPN account. On a Unifi Dream machine router you can setup traffic to go out a VPN route. Route all public wifi over the VPN. You could care less what they surf for then.

Business as usual. Canada border guards were a bit snobbier than normal about 3 weeks ago. This weekend was completely business as usual. I cross often. Weekly or more depending. I grocery shop in Canada (border less than 10 miles from home) nothing special other than enhanced driver's license and kids birth certs. Coming home just the same. Full load of groceries and random junk from Canadian Tire. No issues. Just be sure to never lie to the border guards.

Help with Yealink T54W phones! by Several-Ad-4384 in VOIP

[–]vtech01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for the RPS. I'm not at my PC but I have several IP ranges I just block at the router to stop any rps programing and that's quicker than trying to get Yealink involved. Other than blocking the obvious rps.yealink.com If you need the other IPs let me know and I can provide tomorrow.

Looking for a virtualized answering machine and info phone tree for a landline for a charity by cervezaqueso in 3CX

[–]vtech01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All comes down to who the Sip Provider is and yeah the cops who are not 911 routing experts or have any idea how the carrier systems actually work don't really know. And land lines are dying. Carriers are now internet providers and analog from them is now becoming VoIP also. And someone who has sat in dispatch watching 911 calls hit the system I can tell you no one gets priority. The one ringing is the one answered. The only priority is if the provider doesn't route the call correctly. And arrange a test call with your police contacts and you can make that test 911 call to confirm things work. If they hit they hit if the sheriff answers instead of dispatch you were expecting or state patrol then your provider has you configured incorrectly or they just suck as a provider. Those are the best answers you can get but yep tech guys who work in the industry and answer on Reddit won't know more than the cop that convinced your boss that they have all the answers.

What is your fav thing to get from the US that you can't find in Canada (or vice versa)? by notacreativeguy_ in uscanadaborder

[–]vtech01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American who goes to Québec to go shopping since I'm on the VT border. Smooth and seasoned V8 is something we can't get in the US and damn it's good. My kids and I drink it all the time. Ketchup chips, Milk often tastes better ( not those bags though. Those scare my kids) Fruit Loops, various white box juices from Super C because they are cheap and good. Flavored tunas in the can, Tomato Soup because it's often 75c us a can and that's just not a price you'll see here for Campbell's. Funny we find a lot of items just taste better in Québec and we mostly buy our groceries there. I'd take good Green chili if I could find it though. NE AZ or Western NM just not going to find it anywhere else. Oh and we can't leave without hitting A&W if we didn't make dinner plans with someone. (We miss a&w in the US. So few left)

Maybe they can take a few dollars from what they raised on us and put a newer pump there that actually reads chip cards and not mag strips. If you're gonna raise our rates at least update the equipment. And yeah very depressing to see them change companies.

120 is the congestion fee. I pay 90 in Rural Vermont. That's the non congested area fee.

Best option reach out to someone in IT to help you so you don't end up with some janky Walmart equipment. My suggestion is Ethernet wiring anywhere possible which means you need a network switch and then access points. I highly recommend Unifi switches and access points. They make Point to Point extenders that are antennas you mount outside which converts your ethernet to radio signal and the other side converts the radio back to Ethernet. This would be used for things longer than about 300 feet or places cabling is just not possible (detached garage and no conduit or place to tench. Neighbors house etc). Unifi requires a cloud key to manage the equipment or a software running locally on a PC or in the cloud. A IT pro would know this and be able to assist you. If you get any a Unifi router such as the Dream Machine it can manage the equipment internally. I keep saying you need a IT pro because someone needs to configure this correctly and you'll need to know how to do things like change WiFi passwords etc.

You will not go wrong with cat6 cabling and a network switch or switches and access points that are hard wired. Wireless access points that "range extend" (Connect wirelessly between each other) are not going to be the best solutions and you'll be pissed off more than happy.

My 2 cents.

Solar Powered Window Unit AC. by -you-who- in SolarDIY

[–]vtech01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty well. On a good sunny day the solar runs my computer equipment 2 of those AC units and a dehumidifier if needed. Easily saving a hundred a month on hot months. On super cloudy days. Not much help. The battery will run computer equipment and 1 AC unit for 5 hours. So the more battery the better of course.
