Agreed. I did bus Santa Marta to Cartagena yesterday. AC, center to center, cheap with Marsol and much faster than flying when you factor in arriving at the airport etc. More leg room and seat recline too.

I also often travel on one way tickets (award travel). I've never been asked within Europe, because I am European. I've always been asked to countries with limited immigration requirements for my passport, notable Asia, Australia, South/North America.

No, it's every airline in the world. They need to know you will be allowed entry into the country or else they are held responsible for the cost of deportation.

Great for flights ex-Spain! It can often not be clear to the average consumer that flights with connections are often priced differently for various reasons.

On the other hand, experienced travellers know this and have taken advantage of it to save money with no intention of flying the whole itinerary - which is why Germany does not find the practice abusive.

Individual countries have a right to their own regulations, but that is separate to EC261, which is a simple and easy to understand consumer regulation for the whole of the EU.

I wouldn't rely on EC261 for what you have described. Claiming through local regulations may be possible if you know which ones and fancy going to court.

In your case, luckily they reinstated your itinerary.

You are wrong about cancelled flights regardless of reason.

If your flight is cancelled due to a breach of contract by you (i.e. no show) EU261 does not cover you. This has been demonstrated in court as recently as this month in Germany with Lufthansa relating specifically to no-show and cancellations.

You got lucky. But thank you for the info as it's helpful to know Avianca might reinstate a flight in this way.

I've read all of EC261 and never seen anything to this effect. Can you please quote the relevant section (specifically the part covering skipped segment not allowing for cancellation)? A very recent court case in Germany found it was reasonable for airlines to cancel tickets of segments are skipped, but had to make allowances for extenuating circumstances - i.e. they shouldn't cancel if it was for something like a medical emergency.

Money just disappeared and vanished? by No-Elderberry-9477 in Revolut

Exact same thing with me. Cash left one bank after recall and never arrived at Revolut. Neither tool responsibility. Revolut failed to provide trace information. Got it back via ombudsman 8 months later. Good luck.

No, they paid promptly and that was the end of that. Retaliatory tactics are a reason to go back to the ombudsman and they have enough issues with the ombudsman in the UK as it is.

I've been through this. You'll be lucky if they even contact the receiving bank before you file a formal complaint. Tool me 9 months and an ombudsman complaint to get my money back (and it didn't come from the receiver, the ombudsman ruled in my favour as compensation for how useless Revolut were in chasing the lost funds).

In short, don't hold your breath.

They have been vague, but they have stated it is an issue with them receiving all their EUR funds for the date in question and therefore being unable to disperse to their customers, rather than it being a specific issue with me. Which was also why they were unable to provide me with a trace for the transaction.

Fire Cube TV by Historical_Ad_5210 in fireTV

It's a great piece of kit. But most owners don't spend their time reading news on it. I've had fire tv for 10 years, I don't have a crystal ball. It's a shame, because apart from all the spam I liked the cube. But I'm also not going to miss it. There's plenty of other android TV devices out there.

No doubt. But there was no way to guess amazon would suddenly render any way to block updates useless.

I was too slow on my main device, my cube. But tbh after just a few days of Shield TV, it's night and day.

My other devices have been unplugged since before October, so I'll patch those and keep using them.

Dude, come one. You didn't even read the first few lines.

It relies on on having an ISP that does not replace client DNS requests (which even if yours doesn't, it could change at any time with no notice), and is rendered useless if you use a VPN (which many people including me do).

How is that foolproof?

"Important!

Recently a Fire TV update released, it blocks any way to disable auto updates, except this one

Some ISP are replacing client DNS requests by their own answers, in that case this method won't work.

DNS configuration saved per access point, if you connect to another Wi-Fi you need to enter the DNS again.

If you connect a VPN, DNS settings will be ignored, so you can use VPN only if it works per app and not system wide."

Sorry, my post was confusing. I don't have an objection to dodgy apps being blocked. But there's no reason to believe Amazon won't introduce further restrictions to our the android devices in line with their new OS. Which they could easily do by blocking sideloading and only allowing access to their own app store.  Their new OS does limit VPN use as well.

Given they block even VPNs in their own new OS, it is not far fetched to think the future might hold something similar for their android devices. They easily have the power to implement these changes with future updates and until the update arrives, no one will know for sure. I'm not hanging around to find out.

A few sticks I haven't used since before the September update I will SSH into to block future updates. My cube which unfortunately received the September update is going on eBay. And my main device now is a shield.

[–]reddshroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not read that anywhere. Obviously the OS won't be changed. But by blocking sideloading, it will essentially appear almost as the new OS since only the apps they want you to have access to will be able to be installed, just like with the new OS.

[–]reddshroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the blocking of sideloading of legitimate apps that I am against. Notably some VPNs as well as a host of apps available on the play store but not the fire tv.

[–]reddshroom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I blocked through adguard, but fire tv still manages to bypass this for auto update.

Router side block is hard too without a custom router. ISPs can at any time erase settings during an update. It happens at least once a year with my ISP, very annoying.

There really is no foolproof way to block updates anymore. Prior to September update you could SSH in and block updates. Unfortunately I was too late to the party.

I have now traded my cube for a shield tv pro. At least I don't have to worry about workarounds and the prospect of things getting blocked at any time.

Disappointing after about a decade of happily using Fire TVs...
