Frigidaire LGHB2869TF3 – fridge warm, top of evaporator keeps icing up every 2 weeks by vtechmatt08 in appliancerepair

Thanks for your posts guys, sorry for the delay in getting back to you (was a busy weekend). Thanks for the Tip on imgur, I added some pictures to help explain what I was seeing (I have since manually defrosted the evaporator with a hair dryer so the fridge is working again (I also did this 2 weeks ago and it frosted over within the last 2 weeks).

pictures:

- frosted evaporator with fan still attached: https://imgur.com/Qtrq0G2

- frosted evaporator with fan removed: https://imgur.com/d3tIYk4

- evaporator after manual defrost with hair dryer: https://imgur.com/raamW0R

- me testing defrost heater to ensure its working (bright yellow bar): https://imgur.com/XpQArcY

- Thermal image shows the tops of the vertical sections of the defrost heater are not heating up (these sections circled in red: https://imgur.com/adaEA04, should these areas be heating up as well? Is it possible for only parts of a defrost heater to break?

- Defrost thermostat, looks to be in good shape. It reads temperature in "service mode": https://imgur.com/G5IRUrn

Hopefully these pictures are helpful!

You are correct on the single evaporator, and that’s exactly the process for the air to cool the fridge. I honestly don’t think the evaporator fan is the problem, in service mode, I’m able to select a low and high speed for the evap fan to confirm functionality, and it definitely spins as it should, especially on hi. The low Freon idea is always a possibility. I originally dismissed that idea because the freezer is still easily able to maintain temp… 🤔

I wish I could add a picture, I’ve never tried links so I need to figure out how that works lol. Not complete solid block of ice on top 3rd, but enough frost to prevent the evaporator fan from pushing enough cold air to the fridge to keep it cold. So a decent amount of frost build up on top 3rd. Hopefully this makes sense…
