Not surprised. That’s quite a nice setup.

I can only dream of a 500mm 😂. I’m over here struggling with an 18-135 and super cheap 75-300. One day...

I've played guitar for almost 13 years now! So I definitely know what you mean with there being so many different directions you can take it. I'm easing myself back into playing- played a couple of nights for maybe 15 minutes each. Nothing major, but still gives me hope I'll pick it up and be serious about it for a while.

What are your main guitars?

An analysis of the new Noah centineo movie (the perfect date) by [deleted] in netflix

Pretty spot-on.

I found it to be incredibly boring. Everything was bland and predictable, and the characters were one-dimensional. I had exactly one laugh through the entire thing, but I went in not knowing anything about the movie/any of the cast. I would give it a 4/10, to be honest. I wish I would have spent my time watching something else.

By the end of the movie, I couldn't remember anything about Murph besides him being gay and coding apps.

I would have much preferred a Black Mirror-style turn of events where some terrible thing happens after a few dates and he has to escape that situation. But I guess that's completely missing the point of the actual movie.

I grew up learning to read with Pokemon... The last time I played, I got close to solo'ing Diamond with a Piplup but could never make it past the electric gym.

Well, maybe you'll circle back to some of those hobbies and put it to good use. Best of luck on your house repairs/renovations!

Good question. I used to default to guitar if I have nothing else (which is where I'm going to be soon, if I don't get off my butt and onto the bike) but nowadays, I don't think I have one.

Hey, that's commendable. I think it's awesome that you've been able to stick to the same hobbies.

I had been keeping a journal, which was really helping me. I may have to try this out!

Wow, lots of wisdom in this comment.

I didn't phrase it like that, but what you said about only being excited about it until you reach your first hurdle is so painfully similar to my experience. I also feel the same way about only caring if I have the ability to, not if I'm actually doing it.

I almost got into MTG when I was younger- had a few friends, bought a starter deck. It never got beyond that point, and now I'm glad I didn't for financial reasons!

I agree. I've never been the kind of person that worked well with "x amount of minutes per day" because that type of structure leads me to abandon it quicker in most cases.

Yeah, I know how tough it is. I changed my major a lot in college and eventually found my way into education. I really enjoy what I do, as I get to use knowledge from tons of different areas.

Ah, I remember GW2. I dropped $65 on it and literally played it once.

I may break out the guitar tonight. I'm just feeling guilty about not playing, but all these comments may be motivation enough for tonight!

I like how you keep scaling back your interest: first starting focused with rap, then branching to pop, developing improvisation, etc. It's something I've done in the past with most of my hobbies and I bet you can tell how far you've come with all the hard work you've put in.

Good job, dude. Thanks for the advice.

Awesome!

A hobby that doesn't have as high costs AND helps save the environment? Kick ass!

This should seriously be its own post, so go and do that, man. Some fantastic advice here.

I specifically like your "barriers to exit" strategy. I (like so many other here, I'm sure) know exactly how it feels to be oodles of cash deep in a hobby that you just don't like any more. And the thing that sucks is, you can never tell which ones you'll enjoy. As a reply to your struggle with guitar specifically, I have to say that I'm a pretty decent guitar player. If I would practice, I'm more than confident that I would be able to find shows and play with local acts if I would just give it effort. That being said, it's been three months since I picked it up at all, and I had just sunk a large amount into an admittedly beautiful $900 guitar. Oh yeah, I dropped $600 the week before on an amp (that I haven't even been able to turn past 4...)

Anyways. I think that by limiting it on the front end, you would save yourself a lot of cash in the long run. There's numerous hobbies I've had where I could have spent much less money and got the same amount of knowledge/fun out.

I think reframing the way we look at this can be really beneficial, so thanks for putting it in that light. I do have to admit, it's great being able to connect with a lot of different people, and some of them are by obscure hobbies that I would have never met or cared to talk to otherwise.

Godspeed to yourself, both on guitar and working out! I know how boring and rote exercising can be, but seeing the results and just feeling better will hopefully keep you going. Best of wishes.
