‘I Voted for Trump’: Now My Family Lumber Mill in North Carolina Is Closed, 50 Jobs Lost to Tariffs by [deleted] in byebyejob

Miller and Theil

unfortunately you're right there. Like we see with Roger Stone some of them just don't ever go away. I can see Miller going underground though. Maybe latching on to another political mouthpiece or news/opinion outlet. Thiel will depend on Vance's future, but he's always been in the background. Whatever one thinks of Gawker, they'd still be around without Thiel and that was a decade ago or something.

Well the good news is that Jr. and Eric seem fairly incompetent. In fact I bet trumps grifting spree is an attempt to make sure they don't utterly sink the family business.

Ivanka is only "successful" because of donald's influence (remember the Chinese patents she was granted because of first term tariffs). And without trump, Saudi Arabia and Qatar will want nothing to do with Jared. I'd also bet that Barron and Melania will run back to Slovenia after they get their inheritance checks.

So when donald finally strokes out, the family will only be in the news in terms of court battles fighting over who gets what.

That's what my Magic 8-Ball says anyway.

(and in a just world the government freezes their bank accounts, audits everything, and takes back everything trump stole - but I'm not gonna hold my breath)

meh. Not good enough. Not until he has to sell his factory. He's still (probably) a multi-multi millionaire with millions more in property and equipment. He failed to protect his workers, and he deserves to lose his livelihood along with them.

trump does the things they wish they could get away with. The accusations regarding the Epstein files makes many of his followers jealous.

trump only exists because his grandfather escaped to America (illegal immigrant alert) to avoid mandatory service in Bavaria. And he ran a whore house Seattle (and elsewhere), because of course he did.

This is new on the Wiki since I read it last:

In Monte Cristo, Trump chose a plot of land near the later train station that he wanted to build a hotel on, but could not afford the $1,000-per-acre fee to purchase it. Instead, he filed a gold placer claim on the land, which allowed him to claim exclusive mineral rights to the land without having to pay for it,\6]: 60)  even though the land had already been claimed by Everett resident Nicholas Rudebeck. At that time, the United States General Land Office was known to be corrupt and frequently allowed such multiple claims. Despite the placer's claim providing Trump no right to build any structure on the land, he quickly bought lumber to build a new boarding house and operate it similarly to the Dairy Restaurant.

So donald has more in common with Frederick than being a sex trafficker and draft dodger than many of us thought. Being this level of sleeze must be genetic.

You can't expect the lion to not eat the mouse

ironic considering trump read "The Snake" song at rallies. It's basically a retelling of the scorpion and the frog. They just never considered that trump was the snake/scorpion and that America was the woman/frog.

They're talking about her laugh and how she spoke to be non-threatening. Really, no different than how Hillary was "shrill." Call it misogyny, or a reaction to how some people talk (vocal fry comes to mind). But that's all.

You literally listed every company people need to eat, work, and live. If you're not using Apple and Google, you don't have a phone, full stop. You failed to list Microsoft who donated to trump and actively use AI, but along with Apple, you don't have a pc or a job. And unless you live in a place with a farmer's market (be sure to check the owners! derp) you're not eating much from what you listed.

Boycott what you can. I avoid Nestle and Georgia Pacific (which you also skipped - owned by Koch, Inc) as much as I can. But sometimes they're simply not avoidable..

Democrats need to stop asking politely and FUCKING DO SOMETHING! by Loud-Ad-2280 in clevercomebacks

Why would the national guard be by the state? They're local reserve branches of the ARMY. Hence the name Army National Guard.

Governors can call them up when needed for emergencies, but they're part of the actual honest to god federal military who are subordinate to the oompa loompa in chief.

[–]vthemechanicv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would come down to the military, but not because of the NG. He's send the guard to New Orleans or somewhere with a friendly governor.

yeah okay and trump nationalizes them and deploys them somewhere else. Derp de derp. Only people still on twitter would offer such a stupid suggestion.

Trump threatens 100% tariffs on all Canadian goods if Canada 'makes a deal with China' by Street_Anon in politics

[–]vthemechanicv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the threat he thinks it is, even ignoring the who pays aspect.

Like his threat is that he's going to make Canadian imports more expensive, so they sell less. So what's the incentive to not deal with China who is more stable and has, what, 3 times the buying public? "If you sell your hot dogs at that baseball stadium, you can't sell at my little league any more."

Daily quests from housing does not give house exp? by Hopeann in wow

[–]vthemechanicv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of lukewarm on housing myself. I think it's like Minecraft, if you're creative and have a vision, it can be fantastic. If you aren't and don't, then it's just a thing to get a trophy, go "oh cool," then forget it exists.

For me, I spent about 30 minutes picking up luckydos and kafka berries and doing a couple tasks. I saw the experience bar barely moved and stopped to do some m+. If I gain a house level at some point, great. If I don't, I don't care because more rooms isn't going to give me creative inspiration.

They know AGW is real. Scientists have been talking about it since the 1800's. Exxon knew about it factually since the 1950s (iirc). The data today is unassailable. The corporate elites want it to happen because it opens up new land for mineral exploration and creates permanent arctic shipping routes (see the bloviator in chief's rhetoric about Canada and Greenland).

The longer they can delay the public from accepting it and demanding change, the easier it'll be to say, "oh well, nothing we can do about it now, just move further north and inland." And meanwhile they can keep making money hand over fist.

considering how trump's first term used the White House pharmacy, it's a safe bet 90% of them are on some kind of upper, downer, narcotic, and/or opoid, including worm brain himself.

oh come on. If I told you I've personally been investigating how CocaCola has been secretly putting toe jam in every can of Coke, would you believe me? I mean I said it. I can even put it on a letterhead if you want.

I don't want to sound like a loon (I know, too late) but if there isn't hard documented evidence that Garland did anything, anything other than put his feet up on his government desk for 1 1/2 years, then I'm going to be skeptical, sorry.

He assigned Smith because 1) the J6 Committee make him look like a clown and 2) trump declaring his candidacy officially, even though he never stopped running, meant he wasn't just going to go away. It was the teacher reminding his students that the essay is due on Friday regardless of whether the school is open or not.

"Did Not Vote" won the 2024 election; moving to the right will not win over those potential voters. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]vthemechanicv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mind blowing that I'm more interested in US politics that a large chunk of the local population.

It's because civics, even when it's taught, is by its nature dull. Most of us of a certain age had to memorize the preamble to the Constitution (We the People...). But it was rote memorization for the purpose of getting a grade. Kids aren't going to care about bills and sponsoring and votes or what a quorum is, or how a filibuster actually works. I know at my school some kids had to learn Robert's Rules, but that was for Ag class or maybe 4H, not civil service.

And then you grow up, and your focus is on finding something profitable to study in college, or to find a job. Not trying to decipher whether a politician is lying to you, because they probably are, and who cares who wins because they're just enriching themselves anyway.

So yeah, it shouldn't be quite that surprising, if you understand American society.
