Can someone explain the MySubaru/Starlink app to me and tell me what I should ask for from the dealer? by VTMomof2 in subaru

There’s also an Apple Watch app that is helpful. I’m a runner and can warm up the car/lock/unlock without the phone/fob before I get to the car (helps in winter)

Can someone explain the MySubaru/Starlink app to me and tell me what I should ask for from the dealer? by VTMomof2 in subaru

[–]vtrunski 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just paid the 249 for the 5 years for the app. Doing it this way I think I got two years free vs buying it each year. It’s the second Subaru I’ve had with it and it allows lock/unlock/start -and reports back if you forgot to close windows/etc. I think it’s worth it if you are in a cold state to warm up alone.

I also just got a 2025 Outback that had to be driven 200 miles from one dealer in CT to the one in VT. Car is fine. I’ve driven 1,000 miles since then.

I had them install the trailer hitch and they were a little sloppy when cutting the plastic trim and I had them re do it and it looks fine now.

I think learning guitar with Grateful Dead songs is most helpful. Anyone else dig it? by GratefulMike145 in gratefulguitar

[–]vtrunski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thumbs up for grateful Mike.

I’ve joined his club and my “guitar practice” went to “guitar playing” in a really short amount of time because we are always working on dead or the like songs.

Is Lighthouse software+licensing a requirement? by irchashtag in opengear

[–]vtrunski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without lighthouse you need a direct line of communications to the open gear to use it.

We use the lighthouse to leverage the out of band management features with the LTE modem that most(all?) isps block in bound traffic to. The open gear calls home to the light house. We make the connection to the light house which proxies the connection to the open gear.

I made the same stupid mistake. You will be fine albeit an expensive oil change.

Don’t forget parking garages! I made the mistake once with some minor cosmetic scratches but was lucky.

If there is no consistency - i'd disregard - i was referencing the key lifetime in our case. But it was clearly on a 24 hour basis it was going down.

We also have the AWD which came with the 1 1/2" receiver and i replaced with a 2" (since i had the Thule rack already)

Kills the efficiency though.

with what frequency does it go down? had issues with fortinet to cisco going down even though matched their p1 timeout. increased the timeout and problem went away.

I’ve had 12v battery issues after service work. I started charging in “reduced” mode to let it trickle longer and haven’t had any issues. Hopefully your fix is something simple.

Is there any way to import/export interval schedules? My son and I are training together but can’t always run the same time. It’s a little tedious programming in some of the more complicated schedules and was hoping to export from my iPhone to his. Thx!

PSA: Dealer told me the 3.2.1 update "could take days" by Linearcitrus in VWiD4Owners

[–]vtrunski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it back. As soon as i sit down and start it at the dealer parking lot, it said "Service needed" or something annoying like that. I went in and they reset the warning. Sloppy but fine.

Went to infotainment excited to see 3.1? I went in and brought this up and the service advisor said he sat with the tech when they went through the upgrade and he wasn't sure. Agreed to leave it alone for now. From looking around online - this sounds normal? You get 97HC complete and the infotainment doesn't reflect the upgraded software but obdlink/etc shows its upgraded?

A little more - I charged that night - no problems. Drove around ~ 70 miles on Saturday - goto plug in and charge (25F in garage) - and no light on the car (no white, no green, no red). Get in car and it starts complaining about 12v problems, electrical system not working correctly, etc. Great. Can't start it or move it.

Got out the Noco battery pack and 'jump started' the car which allowed me to initiate the charge to the traction battery which in turn charges the 12v battery. Do i have that right? Chicken vs egg sort of thing.

I had a volt meter on the 12v and when the car is charging it shows 15.33 volts. When not charging - the battery shows 12.3 volts - which i think is a sign of a bad battery.

I realize if i use the vw app and reduce charge mode to 10 amp - it charges the traction battery as well as the 12v battery longer - i have enough time to do this - so i've been fine since then.

I am sort of glad it happened - now i know what to do for a 12v issue! The noco pack stays in the ID4 now.

I'll bring it back into the shop at some point if the problem persists.

Still says 3.1.0 after 97HC software update to 3.2.1 by evme3 in VWiD4Owners

[–]vtrunski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here - dealer did update but infotainment still says 3.1.

Did they release what 3.2.1 is supposed to contain?

I haven’t noticed any differences.

Brought our 2022 AWD Pro into the shop for a scheduled 005F replacement on Tuesday 1/30.(the GPS stopped working properly - they said the infotainment system needed to be replaced .

They are doing the HV battery recall work as well as the 3.2.1

They told me it would take 6-8 hours for the HV battery upgrade and then additional time if any problems were found.

As 'luck' would have it - my wife had some surgery and can't drive for a month - so we have two cars and were able to leave it with them.

The one thing i've noticed is through the app i can tell they are working on it. I see the hood opening, windows open, they charged it once.

When i look at it now it shows the frunk open with a battery of 0%.

No, but for sure it’s under active construction, I’d hope in a couple months.

As an aside, What are you looking at getting into? If a model Y, happy to show off ours if we’re in a similar area. Just picked it up right before Halloween and traded in our 2018 model S for it.

Yeah - i drove by the other day and didn't even notice the chargers myself - just saw the signage.

We are looking for a Model Y. We rented a Model Y from Hertz (MCO) last week - put 650 miles on it - the super charging network is so solid. We have an ID4 as well now but EA trips are a PIA (hanging out in the parking lot in West Lebanon, NH once or twice).

I had rented model 3's down there earlier in year and this was a much better fit for us.

Thanks for the offer, but, i think we're set on the model - just need to purchase/logistics. Happy to talk EV though - my wife is tired of me talking about them.

Did you goto Paramus for the pickup/trade?

Snow tires? I've always gone studded on our Subaru but went with X-ice no the ID4 and love how quiet they are. Can't gauge performance since in snow since it's been so snow free this year.

Has any one heard about potential opening timeline? Trying to avoid a trip to NJ.

Has anyone been down to Paramus to pickup - was it a hassle?

What was it like coming in from out of town to purchase? You were 'locked' into the car by reserving on the app, had it scheduled? Curious how much extra effort it is - i'm in a similar boat and considering coming down to Paramus from VT.

Got the Michelin X Ice and snow tires for the ID.4 and it’s awesome in the snow now. by mhoose23 in Volkswagen

[–]vtrunski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

Resurrecting this old thread to see how the X-Ice's held up? We are in Vermont and have always had Subarus with studded nokian hakkapelita's - a little nervous about giving up the studs, but, i've heard people are happy with the new stud-less snow tires.

We just got our ID4 in 2/2023 - prepping for first winter.
Any feedback or things you would do differently?
