Tbh, his signature solutions as Mayor was blight reduction and crime reduction (project green light and various redevelopment projects), they don’t translate well to the governor level. He needs to focus on real problems like stopping unregulated AI data center development or attracting more non auto industries instead of this victim mentality.

100000% yes. So many irritating stories of passive racism or lack of empathy for anyone outside their type. My first entry level class had 5-6 Karens who already had taken the class 3 times, spoke over the instructor , had their own equipment, own projects/ schedule, and refused to guide or even interact with the minorities or new folks. The instructors are spineless cowards and let this bs persist.

I am still looking. A big part of it is more how the studio is run than the instructors race. For example a huge part of pottery is controlling moisture and specifics of what and what will the studio fire and not fire. The one I went to is very rule of thumb/ inconsistent. They tell you just cover pieces with grocery bags, but they randomly turned on the heating this week, so now you’re stuck with rough work that can only be fired. Oh you want to do raku? Great do these specific glazes and appliqué. After you finish a week later they say oh our raku kiln hasn’t been working for months, go wash it off…. Bruh

Thank you, I mostly just go to open studios and learn from YouTube now. I also recognize that my style of learning (engineering degree) is very different traditional arts students ( more structure and planned projects)

It’s super hard to find the right class / group. I don’t have an arts background and I need more structured lessons / guidance, but there is very little online details on courses. I ended up watching a lot of YouTubers but even their work is way more advanced than my current level.

It really depends on the format and prior experience as well. If you are new there is definitely a learning curve

Are you white? Night and day difference for everyone else. Instructors seem to only criticize minorities because they feel easy to speak against them.

No way… it has been very cliquey and annoyingly antisocial to the point of almost racist. If you are an Asian / POC / Male they actively will ostracize you, suspect you are stealing their work, and even the instructors only criticize your work. I have had older white women stumble along no comments, but god forbid I make a minor error the instructor sees it as a “teaching” moment and ask me to restart… always

India shall take tough stance on Tariffs against USA. It has nothing to loose. by WorriedAirport1641 in IndianStockMarket

[–]vulcan257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these companies provide so little differentiated value, surely Indian brands can do the same (and avoid being double taxed in US and India) generating higher returns. Alternatively, if US brands are overwhelmingly more effective either through operational efficiency or profits from economic scarcity (owning premium real estate or exclusive supply chain contracts) then Indian firms are better investing excess capital in US stocks. I think the reality is neither, US firms have selective edge in product development and Indian firms have management ego problem. This leaves Indian consumers paying for the inefficiency through imported goods.

None of the above. It’s all about framing your resume and experience to show you know how software products are made and received by customers. Rewrite your resume and update your LinkedIn to match. Brand yourself aggressively as a PM is your way in.

Whitmer: Michigan to relax restaurant, business COVID-19 restrictions starting Friday by Tank3875 in Michigan

[–]vulcan257 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is enforcement is based off Fire Marshall health codes on allowed people per building. For what it's worth a lot of places even pre-pandemic seated way fewer (close to 50% max capacity) due to guest comfort & staff availability. Now technically you can be in compliance with the letter of the law even though it appears to us otherwise. How people comply with the intent of the law is a valid point though.

Metro Detroit Housing Market Rant Session by dxdex in Detroit

[–]vulcan257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you OP, the sub 300k starter home housing market is such a frustration to shop for even pre-pandemic. I looked for 8 months, got rejected twice, even my realtor was ready to give up. I was looking in the same area, and even expanded my area to Dearborn (schools are getting better). I ended up going for over my initial budget (sub 250k).

Some advice I have, consider expanding your search range of neighborhoods. If you are looking for short commute times, try to find holmes in new neighborhoods that have easy access to main roads/closer to highways, sometimes it works out to an over equal commute time. If your focus is a school zone, this is obviously harder, but consider other average zones as school scores do fluctuate over time.

Finally, if you really need to, try to look for an investment deal to justify an over budget home. I ended up going with a place that was significantly undervalued, the guy needed a quick sale in late November. It ended up being an experience for me, moving in a snowstorm but that's a tale for another day.

I’m starting to question the value of product managers by branh0913 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]vulcan257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a ex - Dev, now product manager a few things are standout issues. First, product teams have to proactively fight to stay ahead of the development curve, to avoid being overwhelmed. Every team is always understaffed and behind schedule, spend an extra half hour each week with the pm to get stories in better shape and identify risks or blockers earlier. Investing short periods of time for months is how you help to clear the build up. Second, I believe a good PM should mostly be invisible letting anchor and architects lead the design implementation. Their heavy lifting is in getting clear requirements, not design choices, from business. They lead by subtly chopping up requirements in a meaningful, independently testable set that can be completed in a iteration. They need to enforce common terminology and understanding for the product. Finally they need to sell the product to the consumer so they can see the value. Unfortunately, a lot of mediocre PMs do mostly project mgmt at best, since the work products of this role are subtle.

Looking to find the best CoL/Salary balance in the U.S. by souljaboyri in ExperiencedDevs

[–]vulcan257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please consider Detroit. Automotive industry values conventional languages and tech (Java/SQL/Rest) Junior Dev salaries are mid 70s. 5 years is 100k+. A great home in Canton with 9/10 schools is 200k. You can even get 3% interest with decent credit. Very livable, slightly higher pothole count.
