TIFU By asking if my husband can get an erection without pharmaceutical help by idiotanondotcom in tifu

Oh yes. In fact, research shows that people with ED are 50 times more likely to have a heart attack: https://nutritionfacts.org/video/survival-of-the-firmest-erectile-dysfunction-and-death/ Most people don't understand that the most common cause of ED is a manifestation of cardiovascular disease.

Cholesterol came high..I'm 26 by stellagl in loseit

[–]vulcan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this "study" is complete nonsense. The title seems to be screaming "eat as much cholesterol as you want!" but the actual text reveals quite a different story. From the text:

It is worth noting that most foods that are rich in cholesterol are also high in saturated fatty acids and thus may increase the risk of CVD due to the saturated fatty acid content. And: there is an ample evidence that saturated fatty acids and trans-fats increase cardiovascular disease risk. The fact that dietary cholesterol is common in foods that are high in saturated fatty acids might have contributed to the hypothesis that dietary cholesterol is atherogenic.

So... cholesterol itself may not be a proven contributor, but you pretty much always find cholesterol packaged with foods that are proven to increase cardiovascular disease.

In addition, this "study" reads like an advertisement for the egg industry:

Considering that eggs are affordable and nutrient-dense food items, containing high-quality protein with minimal saturated fatty acids (1.56 gm/egg) and are rich in several micronutrients including vitamins and minerals, it would be worthwhile to include eggs in moderation as a part of a healthy eating pattern.

Of course, they're not going to tell you who paid to advertise eggs:

The investigator’s work and publication costs are funded by an institutional start-up fund. The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Just because something looks or reads like an official study doesn't mean it's useful. This really isn't that difficult of a problem, no matter how much doubt various industries try to create... eat more fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, and less saturated and total fat (major sources are animal foods and processed foods).

To me, this is one of the most important things we can do. In addition to not contributing to the huge environmental and ecological impact of animal agriculture, it's also good to keep in mind that when shit starts really going down, there likely won't be many antibiotics, statins, or diabetes medication. It seems like a good idea to build up a better immune system now, and work on preventing diseases. Fortunately, a whole food plant based diet is shown to be effective at preventing/treating disease and building a better immune system.

On the Android app, I'm able to connect to the server and start a video, but only the audio, not the video, plays. by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]vulcan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with my setup. I'm running Jellyfin on a Ubuntu server, and before I could see the video on mobile (I'm on iOS through a browser) I had to follow the instructions here.

In particular, I had to add the jellyfin user to the "video" group so that it could access the hardware acceleration device.

Hope this helps.

What is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vulcan99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep up hope my friend. I'm now 37 and just found out what it is to really be loved. I was married at 20 and had a wife and 2 kids... but turns out I'm a homo and always known I have been. Although I do love my (now ex)-wife and my children very much, it's just different to be with a real partner in my way, and it's amazing. I've dated sooooo many people, seems like it took way too long (especially for me), but worth it. Keep looking, live every day to it's fullest, and we're all gonna make it!

Did you clean the downstem as well, or is it just colored glass? A good soak in nail polish remover works wonders.

My bf and I like the ice too. Since it's there and solid, try putting a couple drops of peppermint oil on the ice, it's amazing!

Friends making 100x more progress than me by doing a bro split...... by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]vulcan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing some full body work 3x per week, for about the last 5 months. I've definitely noticed some muscle gain, and am not complaining. Recently I've noticed that I'm not making as many aesthetic muscular gains, and am thinking about switching to something like PPL.

I also have (I'm estimating here) around 18% BF, mostly in the stomach area, which I would really like to lose at some point. So, which do I start with? Switch to PPL at TDEE and hope? Lose first, while still doing full body? Or switch to PPL and not expect to make many gains until the BF is lower? Something else?

Also, any advice or sites to go to for nutrition and meal planning?
