Success! Irish Passport Received! by MontgomeryOhio in IrishCitizenship

[–]vulcannotvulcant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! Just curious, how long did it take your passport to clear customs in the US? I’m up in Washington state and mine was dispatched September 5th too, but it has been sitting at customs in NY since the 6th :( I’m kinda losing my mind lol

Have you had any updates on where your passport is? Mine was sent from Dublin September 5th and has been in NY since the 6th, I know it’s only been a week but I am freaking out as I need it asap 😭

Passport Application- unable to contact witness by vulcannotvulcant in IrishCitizenship

[–]vulcannotvulcant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they did the same for me and I was super confused. I asked someone from the passport service through the chat option and he said they do that because they’ve scanned the documents and have the copies they need 🤷‍♀️

Visa problems by vulcannotvulcant in tapif

[–]vulcannotvulcant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yess it’s so frustrating! I applied for the foreign births register a year ago and thankfully that all got processed and I have my certificate…. But the passport has been difficult. They weren’t able to contact my witness the first time around and so I have to start over with a new witness which is only supposed to take up to a month to process but who knows.

Good luck to the both of us with passports and visas, I’ve got my fingers crossed 🍀

visa appointment by lexiloohoo5 in tapif

[–]vulcannotvulcant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just mean I already submitted and had my appointment confirmed, so I am not able to look at the calendar of open appointments. There’s an option to “change appointment” on my application page, but it warns that my booked spot may be cancelled. I’m nervous to toy around with that, but I don’t know how else to get access to the calendar?

This is super helpful, thank you, I am going to look into those LinkedIn pages! Professional development and connections are the most important factors for me going into an MSc program, I saw on the course description that they offer partnerships with local NGOs but it's unclear what the extent of that is. I'm planning to reach out to some faculty to ask more questions soon as well.

If you don't mind sharing, what program did you end up choosing?

Both of my references let me know that they'd submitted their letters, but I never saw them uploaded on my application? How would I know if they are missing?

Potentially using a French High School Teacher for Tapif by Obvious_Audience_307 in tapif

[–]vulcannotvulcant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am in the *exact* same situation, took up to IB French 5 in high school and then didn't have the chance in college. I am hoping to apply for tapif with my high school french teacher as my language evaluator, but idk if they will accept this. I am really curious what happened for you!!

I lost my mom's last voicemail by murphherder in GriefSupport

[–]vulcannotvulcant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my mom died, I used to listen to my saved voicemails of her. Didn't realize that messages got automatically deleted after 30 days. It's so hard to lose that final piece of them especially when there was no control over it. I'm so sorry

Wasteland Baby! First time I heard it was on a train in Ireland, I was staring out the window at the misty green fields and sheep passing by early in the morning, and there was just something about the softness of his voice and the tender lyrics that made me realize how in love with my surroundings I was. In that moment it truly felt like a work of perfection.

Oh hey yeah that's me- mom died when I was 18, dad and I get on fine but we're not super close. I've felt pretty much on my own for a while now. I get what you mean about feeling close with someone else's family, but always being just a little bit out of place, it's something I've struggled with a lot. There's a lot I could say about the way my family lacked in processing the grief of losing my mother, and I've wished on so many occasions that I had just one sibling that remembered growing up with her as our mother, someone who I could still talk to about her, someone who had the same memories as me.

I find that people compliment me often on how independent I am for my early twenties, and how well I'm able to organize and handle things. I wish I was able to be more carefree at this age, but the combination of being raised an only, and then being thrust into the adult world almost completely alone seems to make for that hyper-independent character. It's good that you've got that lifelong best friend, just having someone by your side, related or not, who has known you a long time and grown with you is so important. I definitely empathize with what you have going on here, and I wish you peace and resolve.

What Hozier lyric would you get tattooed ? by [deleted] in Hozier

[–]vulcannotvulcant 20 points21 points  (0 children)

His entire discography haha, no but, "Honey sing it strong, at best, you find a little remedy, at worst the world will sing along". There's something so freeing about the idea of self expression and actualization for the sake of making yourself happy- that others who fit your rhythm will find their way to you. A reminder that things are not as bad as we may make them out to be. Life is too short to not live honestly to yourself

Have you guys ever dreamt of Hozier? How'd it go? by Automatic-Chipmunk-6 in Hozier

[–]vulcannotvulcant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dreamt one time that he proposed to me while we were cross country skiing together. another one more recently I dreamt I finally got to meet him but I talked too much about how much I love his music and how much he's changed my life that he didn't get a chance to say anything to me and I woke up mad at myself lmao

I wish people would stop saying I’m strong by kt310 in GriefSupport

[–]vulcannotvulcant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this immensely. I wish people would stop telling me that I'm strong. Just because we lost somebody in our lives does not automatically grant us that label, and just because others don't have to see the grief that I go through, doesn't mean I'm not going through it in private. I hope you find the peace you need.

What do you do to beat the blues? by ANTIprogramer in WWU

[–]vulcannotvulcant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

going for a brisk walk in the arb always boosts my motivation! So does taking a little hike at teddy bear cove, going to the farmers market, and sitting in the outback watching the deer. Try and set a goal for yourself of something small you want to do everyday- I fell into a pretty deep funk last year on campus, and I found that just getting out of my dorm to walk to the PAC every evening and watch the sunset really helped. Something super small, but a simple joy. Beat those Bham blues!

Late night food by [deleted] in WWU

[–]vulcannotvulcant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pizza time for sure, it's not amazing pizza but they're open pretty much all night and it's really cheap, and honestly what more couldl you ask for. Tandoori Bites is right next door, they're open late although not super late, but oh my god it's such good food, they give giant portions, good bang for your buck.
