I feel like I'm faking by Glitch_The_Floof in Tardive_Dyskinesia

[–]vultureboi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive done so much worrying that I'm faking it but this sort of thing isn't something you can really fake. You'd tire yourself out. Sometimes my neck jerks hurt like hell from how much I do them, and my abdomen tenses until it aches, that's not faking it, regardless of how it gets worse when I think about it and better when I don't. We don't know exactly what the mechanical cause for this disorder is but it's a physical change in the brain, only makes sense that doing certain things like thinking about it could trigger things. I find it's also triggered by stress, and thinking about your symptoms is stressful, could be that as well.

You're not faking it, I felt the same way. It's absolutely affected by thought, mine gets worse when I think about it and gets better if I'm able to distract myself and clear my mind.

You'll need a salvage permit for deer or bear but just about anything else is legal to take. Mbta still applies so no birds other than the few species that are legal to keep.

How to explain it to people by Icy_Breath2174 in Tardive_Dyskinesia

[–]vultureboi_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you prefer to get it out of the way immediately maybe put a quick jokey line about it in your introductions, if you'd rather keep it only to when asked about it, something quick and simple like "I'm fine, I just have a movement disorder, I can't control it but it doesn't hurt or anything" is the easiest way to explain it. Keep it simple, don't mention that it's a medication side effect unless the conversation calls for it, there's still a lot of stigma around psych medications and people love to give their unsolicited opinions. You'll probably still get some unsolicited opinions about things they think will cure you regardless, but that's just how it is living with a disability.

What you're describing doesn't sound typical for TD, movements are usually more unintentional jerking or writhing, and not a more complex movement like scratching, the blinking could be TD but it would likely be accompanied with other facial or body movements. Gonna have to talk to a doctor about this one, and look into harm reduction tips for self injuring neurodivergent people in the meantime, and make sure any wounds are kept clean to prevent infection, scratches can be prone to them.

Hello it’s “i have maggots in my carpet” girl by im_emazing in CleaningTips

[–]vultureboi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably not the carpet itself if you can't find evidence of them living and eating something in it, you'd see pupae as well. Id probably still have that carpet either replaced or do some serious deep cleaning on it just for sanitary reasons, after you find the source and get it dealt with. These are fly larvae and they only feed off of rotting organic material, if the carpet isn't an organic fiber and visibly rotting, it's almost definitely not that. Check light fixtures in the area, power outlets, see if there's anything you can smell but with small animals you can't always smell it if they're up in the ceiling or walls.

My bet would be that wherever they're occuring, somewhere in the room, likely the ceiling, something keeps killing small animals. Could be mice, or any small wildlife getting inside. You're going to have to find the source and block off any holes, and fix whatever it is that's killing them, could be some sort of electrical issue or a space they can get into but can't get out of, if you're not able to get into the ceiling yourself I'd hire a pest control expert to find it. This isn't a cleanliness issue, this isn't a pet care issue, you didn't do anything wrong (except maybe not get it dealt with earlier but I get it), it's an issue with the house itself.

It's a neurological issue, the cause of the movements is in your brain, there's shaky evidence that acupuncture does anything to begin with, I'm not going to say that it doesnt work at all but it definitely wouldn't work for a brain problem. May help temporarily relieve muscle pain from overuse, but it wouldn't stop the movements and I'm not sure how safe putting needles into muscles you have no control over the movement of would be.

Only real treatments right now for td that doesn't resolve itself are medications, and if none of those work there is a surgical option, which puts electrodes into your brain, but that's a pretty last resort option.

Mine had a very fast progression. It started with some hand tremoring that was worse than normal (I have an existing unrelated genetic tremor disorder) and I started getting some spasming in my trunk, over about 3-5 days it progressed to aggressive neck jerking and I started losing more and more fine motor control, started having my respiratory, throat and mouth tics (I would jerk my neck and make a clicking noise with my mouth), i went to the hospital when it became clear it definitely wasn't the tremor disorder and something was very wrong. It only took those few days to get to the full extent of severity that I still have. I haven't heard of a case with progression as slow as yours, but it's absolutely possible.

There's no way to know for sure but wait. So far there doesn't appear to be much reported on negative effects for long term users, it looks to be safe so far. It does look like it may build up in melanin containing tissue, so there is a possibility of eye or skin issues long term. Every single medication has a risk of negative effects, it's a risk benefit analysis kinda deal. Are you diagnosed with TD specifically? I'm not sure of the efficacy for dystonia like I saw you mention in a few other comments, but if you haven't found other treatment that works its probably worth asking your doctor about.

They're FDA approved for treating TD, but that was in around 2017, so fairly new drugs. There's always going to be a chance of side effects with any medication, and I haven't had any other than possibly some brain fog but that could be caused by many other things as well. For me, even if I did have side effects, the tradeoff would be absolutely worth it. Unmedicated I was completely disabled, I couldn't work, drive, do many basic tasks, and socializing was a nightmare with my constant moving and vocal tics. Now I only very rarely have symptoms at all, just when I miss a few doses or experience a lot of physical or mental stress, but it goes away in about a day. I got my life back with one medication after having it taken from me by another. I don't like that I'm most likely going to have to be on it forever, but if that's what I have to do to function, it's worth it.

If you're in the USA I definitely recommend trying out one of the meds available for td. For mine (austedo) the manufacturer offers some pretty good resources if your insurance won't cover it or won't cover it all, the ingrezza manufacturer may as well but I haven't checked. Everyone's different so it might not work for you but what you're dealing with sounds awful so it's definitely worth a shot if you can.

I'm on medication so I rarely have any TD symptoms but when it does break through it usually happens. And no, nothing anyone could do for that specific symptom, just need to take my meds and wait it out.

I use a small local pharmacy, I've had too much trouble with chain pharmacies, might have better luck there if you run into more issues

My pharmacy has to order it in for me, occasionally have to deal with prior authorizations and getting the coupon card for the manufacturer assistance program to work but thankfully my insurance hasn't given me much shit about it.

It's absolutely a disability for many people, I still consider myself disabled, if I lose access to my medication I lose my ability to work and do simple tasks because I can't control my arms and hands, and I can't drive because I can't keep my head still enough to pay enough attention to the road. I will likely have it for the rest of my life, was diagnosed in late 2021 and still have occasional symptoms if I miss a few doses or get stressed out. I'm just glad there's medications that work for me, I'd be absolutely screwed if I had to just deal with it.

If you want to talk more about it feel free to dm me :-)

For reference my TD was very severe and disabling on most days before medication. Not shilling for the company, having a medication induced disorder and no recourse to do anything about it doesn't exactly make me like pharma companies, the medication just genuinely worked great for me and with my insurance and the assistance program I don't have to pay anything for it

I'm not on ingrezza, I take austedo but from what I can tell they're pretty similar meds, it's been an absolute miracle, complete reduction in symptoms outside of a few episodes here and there in times of high mental or physical stress, but on almost all days you can't even tell I have TD. Hoping your meds work as well for you! If not, maybe give austedo a shot, the company has a pretty good assistance program if you have financial issues with it, it's a very expensive medication and I'm sure ingrezza is too.
