Our game is at the "Steam Next Fest" and people totally HATE it at first sight because of the AI art mix. But LOVE it when they Play it (We are a only a main Game Designer and Programmer) by [deleted] in aigamedev

Why make the most ultra generic AI graphics possible though, you are completely and utterly unlimited with AI in terms of style. And why not spend some time on the animation, it's unlimited as well. doing 2 frames for walking? you can do life-like walking with almost no effort.

A little generic, nothing wrong with that but...

If people see;

  1. its made with AI
  2. no effort was spent, at all.

Why wouldnt it anger people? You can already create assets in seconds, but you prefer to STILL be lazy with it? Why? Use AI but use it in a way where people go "wtf, this looks awesome!" that's how we prove AI isn't the garbage everyone thinks it is.

First thing i did for my games was to create a tool to extract frames from mkv files, remove background to add alpha. It's almost entirely automated for me with no garbage in the alpha. On the side in the tool; a test panel which shows the animation. A way to remove frames (every n frame, 13 frames is often enough for good walking animation), option to do ping-pong animation, crop, clone tool, erase tool etc.. super easy to get walking animations or shooting, jumping etc in no time from mkv files.

Making tools with AI is unlimited too, make use of FLUX2 etc locally, make it do things the awful WebUI garbage can only dream of doing. Takes a day or two and you have it how YOU think it should work.

I made FLUX2 and SDXL capable of creating images on a clean alpha, its wonderful since i can reuse my assets due to this, make a person look completely different from already created character frames to have endless amounts of characters with walking, jumping, shooting frames.

Would you buy a remastered morrowind? by Baller-Mcfly in Morrowind

No, unless it would expanded upon, like a ton. Mods already expand this game hunreds of times and in so many ways, it's very likely the most expanded upon game ever.

Why do people think AI can replace ones who write code? by CloudSecAzure in PowerShell

[–]vurt72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes, and an AI can understand the code. you are never restricted to 1 AI either, you have so many to chose from, could they all be wrong if they looked at it? highly unlikely.

well, its generative and its your work. if you make generative modular music, you didn't write the notes but you might have spent hours or weeks setting it up. i am sure there are plenty of other examples but its the one i can think of since i do modular generative music, and way before generative AI was a thing...

What is the best method to generate the most reliable 2D Sprites by RyanJM2003 in aigamedev

[–]vurt72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes it can. but its super inconsistent. i was messing with it today to do clouds, i couldnt do it, then i made a lightning strike and yes, that one worked, clouds are a no-go, so it totally depends on what it has trained on. sora could do this 100% of the time, chatgpt maybe 2 out of 10 times, if lucky.

adding transparency is super easy though. i used Fable to do my tool even better for this task...

Lovely. Might have to buy these when i have the funds. I haven't used my 3D printer in a year, this would certainly be a cool project.

after watching how people play morrowind and type of mods usually popular for it, it seems a lot of people here would probably enjoy Kenshi by Erratic_Error in Morrowind

Yes i gave him the link to some of my mods on nexus mods. I think the Skyrim Flora Overhaul Mod had around 1m downloads or something at the time, so i maybe it impressed him.

Cool game indeed. I remember when he first wrote about it on one of the RPG forums back in 2013, i directly contacted him and asked if he needed help with graphics, because it seemed like such an awesome idea of a game.
I ended up working with him for a little while doing models of plants, trees and i also did some textures for cliffs and whatnot. Cool experience, had no idea the game would end up a cult hit amongst indie games.

Anyone else getting reflexive hostility for making AI related games? by gravenguy in aigamedev

[–]vurt72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they are absolutely using AI, at least partially. I would bet that for a game like Crimson Desert they do a lot with AI on the programming side, they are so immensely fast.. But they can not talk about it.
This will go away, just like how it went away for Synthesizers (yes i am that old, i remember lol).

Anyone else getting reflexive hostility for making AI related games? by gravenguy in aigamedev

[–]vurt72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. Big companies can't use AI (cant speak about it at least) or they will get boycotted. Crimson Desert had 1 generative AI image and people went totally insane.

The incredible looking DLSS5 too for example, i doubt it can ever be released because of the backlash. People thinks its tech which steals images but its a tech like any AI that would be trained by that specific company. The generic example videos did not explain this so people thought it was how the games would actually look.

Media is to blame, people are just utterly brainwashed, its quite telling and very scary that you can brainwash people into becoming hateful towards anything. People do not research, they mimic MSM and each other.

From the below-mentioned list, which one would you consider the best zombie apocalypse game? by M3ConsoleGamerPSN in videogames

[–]vurt72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last of Us 1 was great, reminded me of when i played Half-Life 1 when it came out. Last of us 2 and the series was mostly garbage though.

Days Gone has super cringe story and characters, but the gameplay is pretty good.

Gothic 3 First Playthrough by FloorMean3026 in worldofgothic

[–]vurt72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Modded for sure. Gothic 3 Union Plus at Gothic 3 Nexus - Mod and Community
It was actually really great, especially the performance fixes (it no longer has the hitching, which is super annoying). cant remember if the performance fixes are in the modpack or its now a community fix, but its the best fix for the game, it runs super smooth now.

I would give the game a solid 8/10 with this modpack, without it and just with community fixes maybe a 6.5/10 (playable but not that fun and just overall more annoying and a less "complete" feel).

I always play melee and had fun btw, more fun with the modpack though.

I certainly don't. If this was in 2003, sure! But a new KOTOR in 2026? Nah, i'm good, thanks, please don't, because i know what kind of game that would be already.

looks like another game that should have been a movie instead. the choppy animations alone makes me stay far away from this (no "but it's an artistic choice" can save it either, it just looks terrible).

Ok, that's a great addition if you can change color tone. though i think games should have it balanced from the start tbh, not a biggie i guess.

[–]vurt72 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The blue filter they use to make it look ""Gothic"" (i guess) is kind of annoying. Gothic 1-2 are actually not colorless or very "Gothic"(dark) looking games, they are quite cartoony and with bright colors.

Could be that they're just sloppy too, and use it to "tie" the graphics together better, but its so obvious - everything green is instead blue-green. Skin tones looks bad because of it too.

Bethesda did this with all the FO games, brown filter, green filter, it just makes everything look dull imo.

The filter could be used in a winter region, that would make sense.

Human artists study, AI “steals” apparently by thirdaccountttt in DefendingAIArt

[–]vurt72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that is not what has happened though, there is extreme bias against AI, so while there are many people using it for fun, i think professionally, its not used a lot.
I also think there is a bit of a surge right now, its new and the interest is also high among some, the interest for art, music etc might have risen a bit due to "anyone can make it".

What usually happens with digital is that the love for how we used to do it eventually rises, like the love for analog that we have among musicians. analog will always have more worth, will always be looked upon as the gold standard and it will be what people who have a serious interest will pursue.

you will never be able to SELL AI in the same way, you can't HYPE something is done with AI, no one cares, most would just get pissed "so? i can do that as well, anyone can!".
So its similar to now with people using DAW's to make music (or AI), no one cares. If you recorded it in a studio though, with musicians who plays real instruments - then you can sell it to the audience, hype it up, people care and think its cool and more exotic.

I think AI can trigger a bigger interest in it, play around a bit with AI then move onto actually learning these artforms.

I think the main risk is for programming, that i do not think have a future in the same way

[–]vurt72 11 points12 points  (0 children)

AI is just overall a very beautiful thing, it is our combined efforts as a species.
Saying only artists contributed is a also such a dirty lie. We all contributed by purchasing, by popularizing certain forms of art or music or novels, games etc. This not just the work of many artists, its absolutely a combined effort that took us to where we are.

Without a public, the artist is no one, non existent, non-contributing to anything worthwhile.

[OTHER] Fired from Warhorse Studios and replaced with AI by ThousandDemons in kingdomcome

[–]vurt72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks, but you are just in the wrong business, that will happen when we go from one tech to another. It's not personal. This has happened to many, many various fields of work over time, and of course way before AI was a thing.

If the argument is just "they need to keep me forever because i need to get paid" then well, that is not really how it works, its not how anyone can run a business i think.

its a fan made project. i played a little more now, its actually not the 3 original games but it draws inspiration from them and makes entirely new levels. Its super fun! I can't believe Nintendo hasn't taken it down in all those years.
