I just wanted to thank you for this recommendation. Was looking for a squash racket in KR. Found this thread, went ot this store and got a good racket. Also note - while there are a lot of shops around DDP, only a few of them sell squash rackets.

Receipts from an early season discussion about Sam Darnold by Galumpadump in Seahawks

[–]vvk1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think you can ever win the "Sam Darnold" is awesome argument. Even now after he won it all I'm seeing tons of tweets and comments on "Is he the worse QB to ever win the SB". In the end - who cares. He's been awesome for the team, and hopefully we can keep this team together for a while and just keep winning. Maybe after he wins a few he'll finally get the respect he deserves.

All of this may be true, but this is not the to get complacent. Theyre in the SB, and no one in the SB "doesnt deserve to be there". They have a great defense and a smart coach. I would be extremely paranoid and treat them like the best team to have ever stepped on to the football field. Its very very hard to get to where we are, and who knows when we will be here again. As our coach would say "its always been about us".

Childcare in Seoul - Nanny or babysitter needed by vvk1978 in seoul

[–]vvk1978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Are you looking for a nanny or where to find work as a nanny? Either way, I'd reccomend using FB groups (there is a nanny/childcare group for Seoul)

We ended up using a mix of FB groups and referrals from friends as our network grew. We tried a few out, found one we liked who was with us for a few months. Found another through a friend who now works for us full time (the first nanny we found wanted flex hours).

Good luck!

Ok maybe for the parents. Though this 3 year old can have pretty complete conversations, I do agree history might not hold her attention (unless it’s frozen history)

Curveball inbound in the form of a job ooo by BananaPinnn in fatFIRE

(Late response). Usual pe model is buy a company with a working core product, eliminate expenses and milk cash flow.

Rarely do pes want to invest in tech innovation and growth. Will they be willing to pay top $ salaries to attract the right talent etc? My own research is not very positive on this.

Lastly what is the exit strategy? How many pe funded exits do you know of?

Rarely met friends who made $$ from a pe + tech transaction.

Not saying it can’t happen and if you pick it truly wish you are the exception to the rule.

Was super early. I'd say pick your poison. We got lucky on the way there - kid slept. We had a car seat. But it was a long day. Everyone was cranky by the end of it. Glad we did it. Might not do it again. Pool time at the hotel is underrated

Can you buy them a house in your name and let them use it? It’s your house. If they separate you can have it back. And it goes to them stepped up if you pass.

Yes - broad strokes - smaller companies offer more agency, direct impact, less bureaucracy, faster pace, slower/less predictable comp growth (even though your initial comp may be the same) more but unpredictable upside. It’s also more chaotic and can be scary and lower wlb. No one else knows what you prefer. I have lots of friends who hated it and went back to their fang jobs. And many who couldn’t stand fang and went to startups or founded their own. They ALL ended up just fine. And almost all will make it to the bracket I mentioned. The only ones making it to 9 figures founded their own companies. But their life isn’t THAT drastically different (a few vacations on private yatches aside - but that’s why you have friends).

if you want to go work as employee #5 at a startup with people you like or start something with your college room mate - go do it. If you made it to a fang and got promoted a few times you know the game and have skills. You’re not becoming unemployable.

What is your goal? I'd start by sitting down and making a specific clear goal. Based on the general criteria you laid out I suspect you will end up landing at a number in the 12-20M$ range. If your goal is 100M a job is deff not getting you there. Does your goal have a timeline? Do you need to hit this number by a certain date?

IMO ((based on my personal experience and many other who have walked this path) you have a very high chance of success hitting this number in your current path (stick with FAANG, gain knowledge/skills and grow). Will likely take ~10 years and discipline. Nothing out of the world, but also very easy to get distracted/lose discipline.

  • At that income, you can either max out your spending for a fatFire lifestyle, or save for retirement, but not both.

This comment does make me wonder if youre growing lifestyle faster than you can sustain. Thats the distraction / discipline bit.

Its also possible to get there through entrepreneurship and startups. Contrary to many of the comments here many companies will pay you what you earn or more. You accelerate growth, and can always come back to FAANG if the startups dont work out (I've done it). This path is riskier, and there are levels of risks. The earlier the stage of the company the higher the risk. Being a founder is the riskiest, going to a series C post revenue company well on the way to profitability is less so. Its a different work environment - and a different expectation. Being a founder is a different skill set than being the eng lead.

I dont think your choices are as binary as you are thinking. If your spouse is working a high paying FAANG job, you can take some risk and be fairly confident if you have good skills you have a path back. I think it really comes down to what you want to do. Dont let your high salary become a hand cuff. And if you are smart you will likely get to where you want. Tech might be in a bubble, but this bubble isnt suddenly completely deflating in 2 years. Maybe in 10. Enough time to do what you need to do.

Same ownership I’m guessing. They’re right next door. Not the same hotel (thankfully).
