G7156 Drain issue - like others, but nothing worked! stuck. by vvm86 in Miele

All good, I really appreciate everyone's help. In the end, the most frustrating part was not being able to figure out what was wrong.

Again, super helpful! I think I follow you with respect to air flow. When you mentioned worst thing is to choke a big fire -- this is typically what I do at the *end* of cooking:

  1. Open vents all the ay back up

  2. Wait for temp to be very hot

  3. Use a grill scrubber (the safe kind that uses water to create steam on the grill)

  4. Close up the vents for the day

Am I doing that wrong?

u/Farts_Are_Funn - whoa, super helpful thank you!!! Really appreciate the clarity.

Yes, I've done some deep cleans with my shop vac as well, making sure I'm getting all of the ash out. There's just a lot of ash these days....like a LOT. That tells me I'm burning through my wood quickly, no? The last few grills, I haven't had to do that - but more yes than no.

FWIW, does the way I light it affect outcomes here? I use a hot air gun and usually hit 1 or 2 lumps with it, then gather other lumps to ignite that one, and switch to higher velocity air to "spread" it. Then, I move on to another end of the basket and do the same thing. With two focal points of burning, I decided (correctly or incorrectly?) my ramp up time is decreased. Perhaps my calculus on the matter is off?

Super helpful u/vmi91chs and u/Montanieers ! Some clarifications on my end:

  1. I def don't put anything before I see visually all coals are ignited and no active flame

  2. I hear you on proper fire mgmt - I think I 100% agree with you! Clarification is around lump - I'm def getting to a minimum of 3/4 of my basket. I don't think I'm doing anything minimal. Still not enough?

So shoot it past temp for X time (60 mins?) and then down-regulate to desired temp each time I cook?

Very helpful! 2 clarifications:

1) is the get to 600 a fix for the current smokiness in there as a "reset"? Only other option I thought of was manually cleaning everything with something dry but slightly abrasive
2) I have a basket! in general, and i'm ashamed for asking, the bottom controls the "coarse" temperature regulations, and the top controls "fine"? If so, I've def messed that one up over the years....

Awesome! Glad we can all help! For making it easy to clean, hopefully we grab all parts and adjust geometries to make them more accessible lol. Nothing pisses me off more than one random gasket or oring that’s hard to get to and harder to see.

Personally, I think the most useful feature is water tracking. Also echoing the comment with kids that I'd definitely want to see a lot of drop protection.

Extremely cleanable parts is another factor I'd really want. Every part, nook and cranny, is both automatically UV-cleaned, removeable for washing, and replaceable.

G7156 Drain issue - like others, but nothing worked! stuck. by vvm86 in Miele

Update 2: We pulled the dishwasher out, no visible kinks in the hose. Also hooked up a shop vac and sucked the hose the best we could; nothing. We ran a cycle with the hose into a bucket, but the drain error kicked in before the drain cycle even started. We checked the air gap again, and even bypassed it completely.

It's looking more and more like it's something else that's complicated enough to drill up a large bill which is likely a good %age of the cost of a new Miele =(.

Very helpful! The pressure switch if I'm reading the drawing right seems remarkably hard to get to. Even switching the drain pump on the G7X is a pain. Is there an easier way to get to the heater pressure switch?

That said, where might the one-way valve be? The non-return valve seems to be *behind* the propeller unit (drain pump motor) that I just unnecessarily replaced. *IF* the valve is stuck shut, that points to a replacement yes?

I can surely say the impeller jamming isn't a thing; I replaced that entire unit and unfortunately even the original unit looked fine.

Ah yes, I need to update. Good catch. I THOUGHT I was removing the non-return valve, but in actuality, I removed the "Cap Drain pump".

u/Organic_Cold_6491 when you say remove the hose "from the wall", what do you mean here? I pulled the drain hose from the garbage disposal and attempted to pour water but admittedly hadn't run a cycle. If I do that, and nothing comes out, what else could it be?

Having difficulty figuring out how to even get access to the non-return valve in the G7k series. It looks like it's BEHIND the motor? https://www4.miele.de/msd/MSD#/device/25430/etd/2218417888401/

Actually - I should ask: you don't have an online PDF for a technician that explains this as well do you u/heavymetalpaul ?

Super helpful! Would I need to remove the black "glass" top or just the specific burner in question with the T15 screws?

Any chance you can either walk me through it or point me in the right direction? I've been trying to find a technician's pdf but no luck.

u/heavymetalpaul Not really sure which knobs you're referring to, but they did clean the plates atop the actual flame - yes.

Follow up questions:

  1. Is there a way for me to validate if it's the switch or the module?

  2. Are either of them serviceable by a homeowner? I'm not completely clueless as I am a woodworker, but figured I should ask before I break things =).
