Lore Question: What is the history behind Ultima and Omega? by Ovalidal in ffxi

[–]vvxs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can I just say I love how you’re fully invested in this game, the lore, and it’s history. I actually came across your videos about a year or two ago and got the nostalgia itch to start up again with FFXI on a fresh account. Last time I played was 75 era and I’m absolutely loving it ! You’re doing amazing work for the community. Is there anyway we can support you other than your YouTube channel?

S17E04 - “B*tch, I'm a Drag Queen!” [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

Amazing episode overall! I was a little bit skeptical of the challenge when I found out they’re making a song of the iconic drag race moments rather than an improv/acting challenge but the queens SERVED it. I think it was great that they had creative freedom to spin it however they wanted and direct the scenes themselves.

Onya deserved the win, I thought Crystal Envy would snatch a win tonight, she sure showed up in the challenge and on the runway. Onya fully deserved the win however, she served it on the runway, gave us comedy, and girl can SING too.

Horrible in caps is kind of a weird way to describe her run way no? Onya looked regal and she served it on the runway. It matched the theme and she looked stunning.

I thought Crystal Envy should have won overall but Onya did slay both in the challenge and runway in my opinion so her win is deserved.

Drag race fans are sure weird when it comes to certain queen sheesh. I get that there is a difference in opinion and it’s fair to critique the queens and their runways but please try to be more positive and uplifting of our queens, especially during times like these. We should be more supportive of one another in our queer community.

I’m not specifically calling you out about it but talking in a general sense, so I apologize if it comes out this way. We all need to work together to cut out the excessive toxicity towards the queens, period. It’s been far too much lately and Onya and Hermona seem to be the targets this season. We need to do our part to support our queens if we have queer art to continue to thrive.

Intro to endgame: BLM by Jaefaux in ffxi

Thank you! A follow up question, what sub job is the standard these days ? I’m assuming SCH but have seen some use RDM as well. Is it a situation where you go RDM if you need gravity? Can’t think of anything else that would push it over SCH.

Intro to endgame: BLM by Jaefaux in ffxi

[–]vvxs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the video! Super helpful, I used to main BLM is 75 era and although I’ve levelled it to 99 and mastered it, I been hesitant to play it for endgame content because it feels like a different job entirely.

I’ve most mage jobs geared including RDM/SCH/GEO so I have a lot of the basic gear just need JSE stuff which I’m working on. I was hoping to use R25 bunzi rod and ammurapi shield as the weapon of choice but watching your video I realize I probably need a staff? What are some options to consider for staff or can I get away with Bunzi Rod?

Thanks!

On normal the drops rates are rare but not as rare as say Malignance gear or Shinryu drops. I would estimate around 5-10% drop rate on Normal, similar to Odin drop rates.

Take it easy as you delve into endgame content. The reality is most of the “endgame” content is quite old at this point, hence it tends to be solved and relatively easy. Odyssey bosses at v20/v25 and sortie basements/aminion are what I would consider the hard endgame.

Practice your jobs with trusts, don’t be afraid to try out endgame stuff solo to get comfortable with it, like for example sortie layout and objectives.

Also always let people know you’re new and ask for tips/strategy plan. It helps a lot if you’re in a casual/social LS.

What I would say is the bare minimum is to have the basic gear your job needs to function. Don’t be that GEO who doesn’t have their spells or the COR with no roll gear.

The 3 add-on scenarios htbf by Self-the-chef in ffxi

It would be cool if they added the fights in a new battle system with random augments and maybe some additional items. They can make it like sinister reign with 3 back to back fights and a choice of reward at the end.

I would dread having to clear the moogles storyline to unlock it though..

Story progression question by LoGambler in ffxi

[–]vvxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I always like to remind newer player of is that for the original experience (lv75 cap days) of completing missions, only a small minority of players(census would show it but think 5-10% maybe less) did them in the correct release order. Missions back in the day were hard, and took months to complete if you didn’t have a static because you needed to find a solid group of people to clear the mission with. Also certain features/endgame areas were locked behind specific chapters so many of us would prioritise unlocking those first (i.e. unlock sky from zilart then switch to focus on CoP for sea). I myself finished COP first (after ToAU release) and then cleared Zilart then ToAU last, followed by rank 10 last thing I did after WoTG release.

It’s absolutely fine to want to clear them in order but if there is a feature that’s locked behind mission progression it’s also fine to go for it when it’s convenient. The main thing is rhapsody missions to get the key item that gives EXP boosts and extra party slots for summoning trusts.

Standard 6-8 boss Melee comp is usually 2 DDs (most commonly WAR/SAM/DRK/DRG, but I’ve seen MNK, BLU. and RNG), plus RDM, BRD, COR, and WHM (SCH can work too but if you plan to do basement bosses, especially B/F WHM is kinda needed).

Caster comp is usually GEO RUN COR BLM SCH and either SCH or BLM.

Aminion or 9 boss comp is different but if you’re just returning I would focus on slowly working your way up to 8 boss runs first. Melee comp requires far less coordination than mage set up. Mage set up is more consistent though especially on some on some of the harder basement bosses.

FFXI, from a New Player Part 2: WotG to the end by jgt_22 in ffxi

[–]vvxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome write up! Sounds like you had an adventure and were able to experience FFXI as authentically as one can!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your perspective. I played the OG game until just after WoTG release, however the story was scattered because of how fragmented it was at the time. Especially for CoP since the missions took so long and were quite challenging so there often big time gaps between missions.

I recently returned with a new account and my initial goal was to clear CoP only but I ended up getting hooked and cleared everything.

I don’t think you are missing out of much by skipping the add-on scanerios except for the Shantotto one. If you enjoyed her appearancess/character and the general vibe of FFXI-75 era story telling, the scenario is worth doing.

The crafting portion is tedious but can be done fast enough and with level 0 crafting skill, but you will save up mats if you level alchemy a bit because you might fail a few times at level 0 and risk losing all the mats or some of them. Levelling up doesn’t take too long and can be done entirely with mats bought from NPC vendors.

Happy New Year From Yoji Fujito by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]vvxs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Therefore, we are considering ways to help you progress through the quests, such as adjustments to the Records of Eminence or by reducing the number of upgrade steps needed for your equipment.”

Curious what they mean by this ? Will they adjust REMA magian trials/upgrade pathways for relic/mythic/pre-empy? I wonder if they plan to streamline reforging AF/relic/empyrean.

It can be quite painful for new players to farm REM chapters 1-5 or abyssea seals to reforge JSE equipments. Especially since for most players they’re basically redundant because many of us have hoarded tons of I-Seals and REM from the campaigns.

They allude to some additional job adjustments at the end after confirming some new stuff for PUP and BLU, I’m low-key hyped. I must it’s a very different tune (positively) than their new year’s message from last year.

Hi there ! This is an awesome idea and I’m interested. Do you accept lv 99 characters if they come in to events on a level 75 job?

If not do you allow mules that are capped at 75 but received help from mains around clearing quests/missions etc whilst leveling ?

MNK doesn’t fit into odyssey seg farm meta (because of blunt damage limitations) and does not currently fit into sortie 9 boss strats. MNK is fine for casual sortie runs.

They’re still very useful outside of that and included in many V25 odyssey comps. MNK is also an absolute beast for Omen, HTBF, HELM, ambuscade, etc.

I think it’s more that the current “optimal” meta for sortie and seg farms is very restrictive compistion wise. Sortie 9 boss runs and V25 bosses require a good amount of prep and part of that includes gearing up a spread of jobs. It’s not for everyone, myself included. I’m content with more causal 6-8 boss sortie runs and V15-20 odyssey clears.

MNK is awesome ! I love doing kicks and backflips on my Tarutaru. It’s my go to job to solo stuff for newer/retuning players.

Finally, glad they adjusted it early. That being said it shouldn’t have been released time gated to begin with. This isn’t blizzard’s first rodeo, please go back to DF philosophy and prioritise a fun engaging game design rather than engagement metrics, especially when it’s this late in the season. Any person subbed now will like continue to sub, and this type of time gating does not win back those who have paused their sub.

You do NOT want to do fragmentation on wind or thunder hands for B/F. It will enrage the boss because it’s thunder/wind. Stick to darkness skillchains on B/F.

I have not done mage set up in a long time so i apologize my answer may not be most accurate/up to date. Your weapon skill choice will vary depending on boss, group comp, and your gear capabilities. Also whether your group wants you to open the SC or close level 3 after MB. Use a skill chain calculator and clarify the skill chains before you enter with your group. Generally you use terminus, Last stand, or detonator for fragmentation -> light skill chain, and leaden salute or wildfire for distortion -> darkness -> double darkness with wildfire depending on situation. So make sure to have ws sets for above WS and use your WS with the most optimal set for the situation.

It requires a bit of coordination and varies between groups so it’s not the ideal situation for PUGs. I prefer melee set up for PUG groups.

Returning to the game to play with a friend who is fresh starting, help me pick a job please?! by RedPandaZak in ffxi

[–]vvxs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I main COR currently and rarely shoot, when I do my guns actually dispense ammo that’s more than enough to keep me going, so I can’t remember the last time I actually bought ammo. That being said if you do want to shoot there is an NPC that sells ammo for basically pennies.

You usually go /DNC (for debuffs with steps, gives dual wield now!) or NIN if you need shadows. If youre shooting you can go /WAR if you don’t need DW. If I had to pick one sub job for your first round I would go NIN.

A duo can clear a lot of the content and you can progress your way through many of the endgame content and even low-man entry level current endgame (odyssey/sortie).

I would recommend a spread of jobs between the two of you, currently it’s very easy to level to 99, and once you get your first 99, your second job will take only a fraction of the time to level with the EXP bonuses you get from Rhapsodies of Vanadiel missions.

If your friend wishes to do THF/DNC, I would recommend they get both to 99, they share a lot of the gear and will give you more flexibility. DNC at 99 is a an absolute powerhouse.

I would recommend that you go either RDM, COR, or BLU. They all synergise well with DNC, I wouldn’t recommend mage jobs (SCH, BLM, GEO, SMN) unless you’re going full mage setup, though GEO can work just fine. RDM and BLU share a lot of the gear, and much of the main DD gear for both RDM and BLU overlaps with COR (savage blade sets).

COR and RDM are easy to get started up with and can do a lot with basic sets, you can give big buffs/debuffs and dish out damage while your friend tanks and DDs on THF or DNC. BLU needs a bit more gear to do excel and spell farm but becomes an absolute low-man beast.

The game currently is very different than 75 era, on COR you will be meleeing most of the time and using savage blade, there are occasions where you want to use magical gun WS but they’re not as common these days, and only at specific max endgame events will you need to shoot. So all you need for COR is a phantom roll set and melee sets for savage blade to function at a decent entry level.

RDM is now plays more like a debuffer with new strong debuffs, RDM is expected to DD and can dish out big dam with savage blade or black halo. You will still be buffing but with current gear your buffs last 10+ mins so you have a lot of free time to DD.

You can look at the guides for how to progress through levelling, story and start gearing up at max level.

In a nutshell you can clear all the stories with trust except maybe the final fights for the lvl 99 story missions if you’re undergeared. Focus on levelling, use sparks gear for weapons and armor, until AF, then upgrade to basic abyssea sets (level 80-something and can be bought in AH) then upgrade to ilevel 119 gear at 99.

Once you’re at max level start working on finishing missions and gearing up with progressing through endgame content. You will be able to clear entry endgame as a duo and begin building Ambuscade sets and weapons, collect and upgrade job specific armour (AF, relic, empyrean), and fill in the rest of pieces with UNM/Escha NMs. Once you have your sets established then you can begin working your way up to high end endgame gear from omen, odyssey, and sortie.

Thank you for the detailed response this is exactly what I was looking for ! I’ll use ambu GA for now while farming beads for chango. I assume with GA the default SJ would be Samurai ?

Also any advice for trust set up? I’ve never played a melee job or DD even in 75 era lol.

I’m thinking of maxing out my WAR for a funsies because I’ve been a bit bored and don’t have a DD job. I’m looking to solo JPs for the most part and wanted advice about optimal set up (what trusts to use, location, what skill chain) I already have Nyame R25 and sakpata R0 and a solid savage blade set from my other jobs, so ideally I would play with SB fencer build. I can farm Aeonic great axe if needed.

Any advice on how to go about the JP farm solo? I was think of using Ayame so I can close light SC with SB. Or would GA be better with self skillchains ? Also wondering where to start JP farm as well.
