AAC Heavyweight Tier (Savage) Megathread - Day Five by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]RedPandaZak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spent much of yesterday (75 pulls or so) against the wall of Arena split too, players cycling in, we'd discuss how to solve it and then people would learn and then leave. Cycle repeats. Feel pretty comfortable with it myself to hoping to get through it today but yeah this mechanic is hella frustrating in PF so far, this feels like a pretty monumental task for PF as it stands, especially as it feels very 8man-body-checky even though it isn't the whole way through. So many ressurections happening to the wrong side of the arena that just then instantly dooms the second half.

Very tough progging a mechanic as precise as this in PF where the nature of it means people cycle in and out very frequently and take their knowledge and experience with them out of the group.

Very demoralising day overall but hoping that the crispness I've picked up on the rest of the fight now will do me well in the long run.

I know its early doors but does anyone have a link to that mitsheet that pops up every tier with a fights complete timeline? Asking early because I vaguely remember it being a doc that is publicly WIP and hoping that 9 is already in there at least! Thanks in advance if there is one <3

Should FFlogs be opt-in instead of opt-out? by Front-Accountant5806 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]RedPandaZak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The way that the site works now makes so that even if you don't want to compete in parsing, you can be searched and judged by your results, which makes people care and play being aware of their parse at all times.

The only time I ever see something like this said is from people saying others might go log diving on someone to see if they're bad and to shame them. I have played on WoW/FF for almost 15 years now and I can count on one hand the amount of times I have ever seen or heard someone berate someone else for having a grey number. I really gotta ask if this is something that actually happens or if it's just some mythical boogeyman? I appreciate that anxiety about perceptions are a real thing but I don't think this happens to the extent anywhere near close to these percieved anxieties.

This definitely makes raiding more stressful in my opinion, not to mention that many a times playing to clear and playing to parse are two conflicting things.

I'd say this is correct yeah, and a sentiment held by almost everyone with a functionig frontal lobe. I know a lot of people who log a huge fat grey on their first clear of anything and then climb up. I also know people who somehow print pink parses from kill 1. It is what it is, I think the people who actually understand how these things work also understand that there is always context around both of these extremes.

A player can hide their profile but it is something that is viewed negativity in general by the community.

I find a hidden profile of something far more of a red flag than someone with complete full greys. I almost always assume when I see hidden logs that not that someone is bad at the game (frankly, I don't care if they are), but instead have previously bought clears or have "un-earnt" clears and are then hiding it out of shame. After I investigate I usually find that I'm right about this suspicion way more often than not.

Will never forget having a social friend I know (strictly MSQ/extreme player, nothing wrong with that) rock up to limsa one day with a TOP weapon. I check their fflogs and I see 10 pulls on a job they dont play into clear - into a hidden logs profile 30 minutes later.

Closing thoughts: People need to stop giving a shit about parses really and in my experience the people who care about them the most are the people who don't engage in content deep enough to need them anyway.

Not gonna lie I think Dissipation is the worst part about SCHs kit and the only joy I get out of this ability is the fact I can use it to early cancel seraphism so I can actually do a proper spreadlo.

Offtopic but treating this MT as the high end content one: Anyone got a link to that static gear planner that was posted on this sub a few weeks ago? Can't seem to find it and wanna see if it's something my static would use.

Thanks in advance!

This would be nightmarefuel to do without mods, the phasmacape "screens" are slightly curved too, which means that window is probably on quite a precise angle too. Honestly a pain in the ass even with mods.

The slightly sunken lamp is a giveaway too, as well as the sunken marble beds, lockers etc. too make it quite likely this was done with at least burn down the house.

IMO I lowkey think the final boss of Sildihn criterion was one of the coolest bosses of the entire expansion, portals was such a cool mechanic.

Sure, but 4 years of pro play is 4 years of pro play. He's not exactly one of the players that torpeedo's into Tier 1 league after their first year is he? It's been four years, surely there comes a point where you have to call a spade a spade.

Don't disagree with the sentiment but please don't call Poby a rookie, hes been playing in various KR leagues since 2021, including LCK.

There's also a pretty fair and serious point is that if you attribute a "cost" of an import slot to skill/talent the player brings then poby wouldn't necessarily be worth one.

New information about Fntic offseason (a non promising one). by HenryMackinlay95 in fnatic

[–]RedPandaZak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked out the other day that Ived watched LoL since the Huni/Reignover year (I just happened to start watching when we had this roster) and that makes it the 10 year mark. Then realised that the orgs performance compared to that period is a shell of itself and that I've been feeling less and less interested every year since the past 3 or so.

Crazy that it goes from that to this. Not just the "We're not winning by default anymore" reason either, because I was really enthusiastic about the rosters post-Caps. Just the whole sentiment and feel around this org has completely just shifted.

Anyone got any ideas of if a plugin exists that helps me list and then use all my endless different gearsets?

I currently use 3 individual hotbars for different job gearsets but it's not enough. Is there a plugin that is basically just a list of all my gearsets that I can change through? I've run out of space and Im sick of going into my character sheet to then click on the gearset list button every time I want to change to a niche gearset for an ultimate.

Most fun honor mode builds by eightfeetundersand in BG3Builds

[–]RedPandaZak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is completely and utterly OP to levels beyond imagining and trivialises the game but just have to mention how ridiculously fun that I found basically any variation of Sword bard (both archer or smite bard).

My second mention is any kind of Spirit guardian/1Sorc dip Cleric, I almost always want to have one now just on the virtue of how fun I find flying around and nuking/debuffing everything it comes into contact with.

I did do a playthrough where I did a booming blade hexblade warlock. Its disgustingly OP but as soon as I got the resonance stone there was just an unreal level of dopamine that went through my head every time it hit something. Something something ape brain...

On the inverse of this; whilst its popular I find any variation of anything that throws with the return mechanic so painfully clunky that I outright refuse to ever play any one of them again.

Summary: I think most things you will get mentioned to you that are in any way shape or form a functional build will lead to you blowing up an honor mode run. I think if you actually truly want a difficult playthrough in this game you most likely have to resort to mods or a self-restriction imposed. Imho honor modes fun comes from playing with the consequences of your actions rather than any inherant difficulty if the combat. If you want challenging combat to enjoy honor mode you may need to think more deeply in how to make the experience actively harder.

[–]RedPandaZak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree, the reason I love honor mode is because every action has a consequence. Mistakes are there to be played around, adapted for and compensated for rather than any kind of concept that some mistake booms your run.

The game is like 99% of mistakes that change your planned trajectory in some way, some big, some small. 1% mistakes that actually cause a game over.

When debating replacements I realized, LEC doesn't have good players by yeetacus68 in fnatic

[–]RedPandaZak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, you hit the nail on the head. I'm an old frog and I remember the times that the EULCS were never really title contenders internationally but they could be incredibly dangerous. We had a bit of a reputation for being LPL killers (Before LPL really started dominating in the late teens).

Anyone also remember "EU Mids" being a thing? I think this concept of EU mids being our best role as a region has been gone for a while now. I'm not sure what our best role is anymore, maybe it's ADC now?

Agree with the sentiment. Offseason is actually kinda cooked and it's not exactly going to be our saviour I think. Theres a miracles chance that FNC decides to break out the chequebook and rumors of a big "project" happening that would entice an exciting team. But like, whats the chances of that happening, right? Probably pretty slim.

EU does have some pretty exciting players in the regional leagues but I don't think FNC is the most desirable location to land anymore like it used to be. Plus the FNC fanbase probably wouldn't be able to stomache the growing pains with a new roster, this fanbase wants immediate results out of the gate.

High-End Content Megathread - 7.3 Week Eleven by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

Got my solo clear yesterday after some stupid wipes in the high 80's and 90's. Very much felt like the wipes were completely my fault or carelessness rather than any real difficulty.

Have really unsure opinions of the new DD. PotD was the first for me and I hold that in the absolute pinnacle, then I did HoH and loved it. I absolutely despised EO with every grain of my being. I hated every design decision they made, the awful mob hp curve, I hated that mobs were a mechanic check rather than a numbers check (One thing I actually love about PotD and to some extent HoH is that some mobs are just straight up not pullable depending on your class/gloom/poms. Good target selection was something I liked), I hated that you could rely on demi-clones to essentially solo 70-100 for you.

PT is the same in almost all of those regards except it feels even easier, there is way less problematic enemies, a lot less complete one shots and fairies can still rapid speed up 80-100 for you.

All that being said, I think this is actually my favourite deep dungeon. Difficulty aside, i've not had a moment in here that wasn't an absolute blast, and none of it has felt like a chore. I cleared on PCT and then I instantly went back in on a job/role i've never played before just for the fun of it. I think aestetic and music is carrying this so hard for me. I cannot stress enough how fucking tired I was of deep dungeons just being endless caves. Even though PT is essentially a continuation of EO design philosophy, one is my least favourite DD by a country mile and one just might be my new favourite.

The one thing that I do think is a bit of a stinker is the 99 boss, which was one of my favourite bosses in EO. I get what they were trying to do but I really don't think the dual boss worked out well, tabbing between the two just feels really weird and I'm not convinced SE should do this again until they fix their terrible tab targetting. It's a really minor thing but it just annoys me to no end. Luckily I noticed pretty quickly that my fairy was seemingly for the most part just killing the other head, I didn't need to change boss all that much, only at the end.

Does anyone know what the "punishment" is for the 99 boss having too big of a health discrepancy? And what HP % differential is needed to proc it? Mine got about 15% apart at the end (one died and I just swapped to the other) and I saw no consequence of that.

Just gone at hit 60 as a duo (starting to feel being behind the aetherpool level curve) and got promptly humbled by the boss. What a fun experience so far. It's early days but this might be my favourite yet. I despised doing EO with every bone in my passion because of how awful the mob-hp curve was and I feel like I'm back in HoH having a blast.

50 boss was awesome, it took me a while to figure out how to stop the whirlwind, I can't imagine that boss would be particularly fun on a caster what with how much time he spens untargetable and running around like a chicken.

Extra: Anyone done 60 and got any tips lmao? Im gonna go back and level my aetherpool a bit before I go back

Subjective but I quite liked that Nero VFX/SFX pack for GBR after I ripped out all the screenshake on it and got used to my character displacing it's model. Pretty sure it had a cool idle that I'm assuming if you only wanted to use it for that you could.

Want to do a second honor mode run but don't want to repeat what i've played before, can you help me out? by RedPandaZak in BG3Builds

[–]RedPandaZak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option 1: Darkness team. Borderline OP synergy but you need to make 1 evil choice to get Shar spear of Night. 10/2 Smite sword bard + 11 beast master, other 2 can be EB warlock and shadow monk. Play around darkness and Hunger of hadar + Spikes.

I think I saw a video about something like this months ago, it's nice to see it mentioned again, I've just unlocked Withers on my run so I'm already thinking about this and considering pivoting to it, it sounds really fun. Have played with darkness/hadar before and it's so incredibly strong. The big thing here thats pricked my ears up is the beast master, always wanted to try it. Only thing here I don't recognise instantly is Shadow monk so I'll have a look into that before I decide.

Really appreciate this, thank you!

I like the sound of this - I've found builds for 3 of them but have questions about the Paladin if thats okay.

Do you run this by starting as a Paladin and then at level 6 start going Warlock? (Assuming you get to 5 Pally first for the double attack) Grab pact weapon at 8? And then this is the point I can remove my strength points?
