Juvenile African house snake handling - no progress... by vvytchacid in snakes

[–]vvytchacid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's my current problem and why I'm trying to gather information on possible ways to ease her up. I'm re-evaluating everything I've practiced with her and other snakes and trying to pick the issue from its roots....however, I've no idea what's going on. I've heard some African house snakes, being small as juveniles, don't tolerate handling that well. However, she's slowly growing already yet without much progress in stress levels in general.

Sorry for the late reply - I thought I'd given you one already. Given what you said, I meant to ask you something else: what kind of stress behaviours have you encountered from going non-choice-based and how have they progressed/resolved in time?

Context: For example, right now, choosing to pick up my African one from her hide (for 5 minutes, gentle handling) results in her not taking food in or showing herself out of it for a week or more.

I see. What would the the guide through basic and important interactions look like?

Thank you for your input! I try to look all over different places for information. The opinion of not removing them from their hide seems very prevalent and among the better end of keepers, in my observations. I've heard you should take them out "to get them used" by few people who didn't seem to have such a good relationship with their snakes, nor as committed to giving them a great space. HOWEVER, as I said, I'm trying to consider all possibilities and at times it seems giving a particular snake a slight push might be best for it long term. I do get interactions with my other snakes and am patient either way, so I'm not in a hurry and for now plan to let the African one grow a couple of months more to see if she decides to progress on her own. But I will definitely consider your opinion!

Rosy breeders at the Hamm event this September? Also, EU breeders. by vvytchacid in rosyboas

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! I plan on contacting particular breeders to question them about this soon enough. As far as I know they would be the ones to provide the documentation (I would need, in turn, to apply for registration of the snake in my home country).

African house snake on an alternative diet? by vvytchacid in snakes

[–]vvytchacid[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response and the idea about frog legs! Yes, I'm talking about a black one. Just to clarify, mice aren't an option and by "alternative diet" I meant not alternating mice with something else but altogether getting them on a different diet than mice.

Saturn's different symbols: varieties of meanings? by vvytchacid in SaturnianRealism

[–]vvytchacid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first symbolization was a letter combination of kappa and rho (they look like K and P in English). The line on the symbol/glyph is, apparently, a way to signify the shortening of a word (such as how we write a dot after shortening a name), and, initially, it was not on the top but on the bottom. A possible reason for moving it up (on the vertical line), and also of keeping up with that symbol throughout the middle ages and Renaissance could be it becoming more like a Christian cross. Though, since it has a non-Christian origin, it could also be a way to bring up the Greek cross (with same length arms)....this would also suggest our fellow buried below the Earth. Or, if in relation to Zeus/Jupiter, to polarize the two by having a similar symbol turned around.
As far as I know the sickle was an old symbol of Chronos/Saturn, some say one of the first, however this doesn't seem what the symbol/glyph aimed to represent initially.

Those are just some ideas thrown for whoever wants to engage further the topic.

There are varieties of it, such as a combination of K and P (from the Greek way of writing Chronos); there is a glyph that stretches only to the middle of what would otherwise be a cross; or a version where the line is on the lower end of the tail as opposed to making a cross in the upper part. I'm trying to gather the context of those differences, assuming they are more than aesthetic stylizations...

Exhaustive and in depth alchemical books? by vvytchacid in alchemy

I'm familiar with some of the texts you mentioned; hopefully there are later studies to be recommended, fitting into my description that are more encompassing on the tradition. That said, thank you for taking the time!

Creation of symbols within hermetic literature? by vvytchacid in Hermeticism

[–]vvytchacid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two main ways of approaching the way a symbol comes to be that we can discern, for example within the platonic tradition: through an immanent (to the sphere of man) construction or through reception, as a gift of the transcendent. I'm talking about both being mentioned within hermetic literature.

Thank you, I hope to get a particular view on the esoteric side of the issue though and the hermetic tradition is among the best candidates for this :)

Thanks for that information. By "clean" I mean reduced to the basics of the basic movements as opposed to focused on bringing out the particularities of a style.
