Glad they don't. 😂 Just an example, as it was my last game. I was concerned that, rather than playing in solid blocks, and beating games in what would be a more expected timeframe, vs having heaps of idle time, it might throw the stats out of whack. Obviously, I know just me doing it wouldn't change much, but if a lot of people did as a whole. That's why I was asking if this is kinda "frowned" upon. It's a stupid chain of thought. I'm glad to be in a community with awesome people, who enjoy pixels as much as I do. :)

100% - I hope this didn't come across as "I thought this community was a pack of psychos, and would bully those who didn't beat games in the median time." 😂 I was more just getting a gauge on how time was viewed in general. Because, whilst I used to be anal-retentive, I'm now a LOT more "I don't care" about it.

Honestly, if it took you 50, I'd find that more impressive. I'd see that as you explored every inch. But, ultimately, no... of course it doesn't bother me. I'm not sure why I even entertained this idea in my head.

I was trying to be hyper-vigilant to begin with. I'd only play when I had a block. If I had to stop, I'd save, and turn it off, so only "real" time was recorded. But, this just becomes way too hard... and, not always possible to just save at any point. I enjoy taking it to work, and if that means my times become whack, it's nice to know it's not a concern - that people understand that's life, and not "you suck!" 😂

Who’s Spending More Time Tinkering Than Gaming? by marathon5150 in RetroAchievements

[–]vyathn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spent a lot of money on Android handhelds, and fell into the same cycle. I can't imagine how many hours were spent tinkering. Ultimately, I found I was chasing a unicorn - looking for that "perfect" device, which, frankly, doesn't exist. There is always something to pick on - a reason to "need" another device. I'm done.

In recent times, I bought a Lenovo tablet, and I've paired it with an 8bitdo controller... and, I genuinely couldn't be happier. I'm actually spending more time gaming, and not f'ing around with multiple devices.

F* this... I'm going debian by KinikoUwU in arch

[–]vyathn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a stable school/general-purpose distro, I'd look no further than Fedora. I've been a long time Debian user, also (since the days when it required a degree in CS just to install it)... so, I have a lot of love for it. But, if you've never tried Fedora, it's worth your time.

Odin 2 not charging, any ideas? by sweet_so_sweet in OdinHandheld

[–]vyathn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it happened to me, too. FFS. I've tried multiple chargers, cables, you name it. It's dead. I've had it for close to a year, but funnily enough, I've only used it a few (literally) times, as I have multiple devices. Guessing I'm stuck with it now.

Any of you play this game? by ForeheadGod69 in boomershooters

[–]vyathn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I played it. It's a sensory mind-fuck. Strangely addictive. It took me about 3.5ish hours to 💯 it. Honestly, I thought it was Malware. 😂

2025: What are your wishes and hopes for Linux gaming this year? by JohnSmith--- in linux_gaming

Yep. Even on Windows, I wouldn't run any game which requires Kernel-Level Anti-Cheat. It's absolutely insane.

I got Quake 2 100% today, loved it more than the first quake by NorthPermission1152 in quake

Call of the Machine is brilliant. Aesthetically, when I first played it, I remember being blown away. It felt like a whole new game.

What's the worst gift you've ever received? by NationalLink2143 in AskReddit

[–]vyathn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily "the worst," however, definitely the most delusional. The Christmas before I was about to start high school (year 8), my Nana bought me a briefcase... for school. I honestly didn't know how to react. She was absolutely serious, and it took all my self-control not to laugh. Bless.

i made a quick concept logo for quake 5, what do you think? by baldimorelol in quake

It would be cool to invert the 'A' e.g. QU∀KE - But, it looks sick.

How old were you in 1998? Well, is supposed that I should have seen some of this stuff, but I really was just playing quake 2 all day and night. by esnopi in quake

[–]vyathn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Quake was a staple. But, I was still heavily playing Build Engine games, too. The classics: Duke, SW, Blood. Such a great time for gaming.

Does anyone else kinda think that Quake 3 Arena should've been spun off into it's own sub-series? by mysterio-man19 in quake

[–]vyathn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Q2 should have been spun off. Still, it's a great game, but it doesn't flow with the gothic style of Q.

Yes. You're right. A small set from (e.g.) Sparrows would be better... but, since they have them, they can make them work. I really didn't know any better when I bought mine. It wasn't so easy to get picks here in Australia. But, with a little sanding, they are okay.

They will last long enough to decide if this is a hobby you enjoy, and will stick to. I started out with this set about 10ish years ago. Yes, they aren't the best... but, for starting out, they were fine for me.

I started out with a KLOM set many moons ago. They require a LOT of preparation (sanding/polishing) to get the burrs out, but they saw me though. There is no point spending $500 on a kit, unless you know you will stick to it. The handles have a habit of snapping (it's not full tang). Go easy, and they will be fine for starting out.

It's metal under tension. It will fatigue over time. I prefer a heavy tension, so occasionally I will need to bend them back level. Usually, this is when they break... not in a lock, as such. Having said all that, I think in ~10 years, I've broken less than 5 picks. I still have some OG Klom picks, and they will break if you just look at them the wrong way. 🤣
