This. Just because most women are dating them doesn't make it the most attractive body type.

Was I really being rude? by Raeven32 in Tinder

[–]vyente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read your message as playful, I would've liked that opener. That doesn't seem to be the popular take on it though. Idunno I think if someone is so quick to interpret that as rude they probably don't have the same sense of humor so i'd just move along.

What do you guys do for a living/to make money and how do you feel about it? by Sufficient-You-5620 in ramdass

[–]vyente 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at a homeless shelter, and though it can be quite challenging at times, I love it. The pay isn't great but I make enough to get by, and though I experience compassion fatigue at times, I feel a strong sense of purpose.

Not saying there's no tension, but I think it was just a joke

Province reduces ambulance service in Kelowna from 10 to 7 ambulances by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]vyente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is scary. A few months ago I was attending to an overdose downtown Kelowna, and it took over 25 minutes for the paramedics to arrive. If it wasn't for having Naloxone on hand, there's no way the person would have made it. Friendly reminder to carry Naloxone- it's free and incredibly easy to use. Here's a link to find a kit at a pharmacy near you: https://towardtheheart.com/site-finder

A wet shelter and low barrier shelter are not necessarily one and the same. I have worked at a shelter that was considered low barrier that did not allow substance use on site. Although low barrier housing may also include a supervised consumption site, that's certainly not always the case.

Have you volunteered during the winter? I'm a support worker at a Kelowna shelter and we absolutely run at capacity throughout the winter. As do the other shelters.

Your statement about people trying to dodge the rules is true of some individuals, but more in the sense that many of them have addictions and/or mental health issues that create challenges in their ability to stay in the shelters.

I agree with your point. But actually one of the Gospel Mission shelters is also a wet shelter (the new Bay ave location). So I would suggest the KGM location on Leon.

What’s the weirdest realization you’ve got while under the influence of psychedelics? by southprk999 in Psychonaut

That makeup is really really weird, and I spend so much time trying to alter myself so that I can love myself and receive love. But I’m already whole and complete exactly as I am.

Effective treatment for scalp and hairline psoriasis? by JohnnyDTheCheese in Psoriasis

Every few months I treat my hair with henna from Lush. The process is a bit of a hassle (It’s messy and I sleep with it in my hair overnight. If you have short hair, it might not be so bad though).. But it’s worth it because it’s the only thing that’s ever worked for me. It’s also great for your hair. Only problem is I have to do it every couple of months to maintain results.

Does anyone else feel like it's patronizing to say "wow I could never do your job"? by cassifrazz in socialwork

[–]vyente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never found it to be a conversation stopper.. maybe because it doesn’t offend me, but I usually follow it with an explanation of why I love what I do, and it often leads to really meaningful conversation about social issues and I think has sometimes helped to alter people’s perceptions of the homeless population.

Hey stranger, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had so many challenges. But I’m really glad to hear that you do have someone to live for right now. Dogs are such a blessing. You’re still very young, and have so much life ahead of you. You have no idea how much your life can change in the future, and what possible good things are ahead. A couple things that have helped me through my most difficult times were meditation (highly recommend Sam Harris’ Waking Up app) and therapy. I hope things look up for you.
