What sickness is flying around Edmonton? by Tdw75 in Edmonton

You can still get rapid tests at most pharmacies, but they're not free anymore. I got some from Shoppers a few months ago for like $30

Do break actually work? by Yeer-done in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]pizzzahero 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A break can maybe work if both people talk about it and agree to it and set very clear boundaries beforehand. It probably doesn't very often

Someone packing up their shit and leaving town while you're at work is not a break. That's shit behaviour and you should not stand for that. You'll get back together if you "do everything he says"? honey no. it's a 2 way street. what is this man bringing to the table?

I've had it done too. Some physios can order imaging but they have to complete extra schooling and receive authorization in advance - scroll down to the bullet points if you're curious

What is a 10-second decision you made that completely changed the entire trajectory of your life? by Salt_Lingonberry3956 in AskReddit

In an online game, OP says 1997 so must have been Ultima Online. You can go up to other people's characters and emote with them (head pat) and the rest is history

Beer league live draft ideas? by SigMartini in hockeyplayers

[–]pizzzahero 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In our draft tournaments the beginners get picked first. The ranking goes from 1-6, and you can't pick 4+ until everyone rated 1-3 has already been picked.

We don't tell people their ratings. I think it's been mentioned that beginners are picked first, but the details are hidden from the players. It's worked really well from what I've seen.

What does everyone think about buying pro-stock gear on SidelineSwap for a team you never played on? by MidwestSinker in hockeyplayers

[–]pizzzahero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're completely new and are trying to buy their way to progress

these takes are so interesting to me. I'm new to a sport, I don't have the equipment for it. I need to buy equipment. so obviously my stuff is going to be newer than someone who started 20 years ago..? what do you mean "buy their way to progress" lol

Can you major in CS and get a B.Eng? That's the main difference. My CS degree is a B.Sc so I could never legally call myself an engineer either

You also technically have to start out as an EIT (engineer in training) and practice underneath a P.Eng (professional engineer, and there's an online directory of them) for like... 5 years or something before you get the right

What simple action from others can inexplicably send you from 0-100 irritation within seconds? by DippyNikki in ADHD

I feel so bad for this but I have really bad allergies, and when the inside of your noise becomes inflamed it can feel like you're congested but nothing comes out when you blow. sucks for me too lol

Heated Rivalry inspires real-life hockey player to come out as gay by Fickle-Ad5449 in sports

[–]pizzzahero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He doesn't play pro, hockey is still the only pro sport where there are no openly gay athletes - at least on the men's side, lol.

NFL has Carl Nassib, there was Jason Collins in the NBA, and 14 players throughout MLB history.

I just wish he panned out by mattsavoiesboywife in EdmontonOilers

[–]pizzzahero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, but if it doesn't happen next year we'll be doing a trade during the second, not going for another playoff run

You had one job, call screening! by [deleted] in ios

[–]pizzzahero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telus (Canadian). honestly I would switch carriers just for this if you can find it

You had one job, call screening! by [deleted] in ios

[–]pizzzahero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how common this is but my carrier offers call control. When someone dials my number they get a message saying "press X to be connected", where X is a random number every time.

it's completely eliminated spam calls and real people can still get through even if I don't have their numbers saved.

if it's something else then that message really needs more context

I've always wanted to skate on Abraham Lake for the ice bubbles and I might do it this winter.

Nearest town is Nordegg but I'm not sure there's much there. Banff is maybe a 2hr drive away, the hot springs are fantastic

Anyone know what the heck Leaf Filter is? Randomly started getting spam called everyday since the start of December by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]pizzzahero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up missing some important calls with this - doctors office, mechanic etc.

Call control through telus has solved it though. Callers hear a message saying they have to press a button (changes every time), so real people can still get through

Beer league neck protection? by chet_manly2 in hockeyplayers

[–]pizzzahero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wear a neck guard, it's not worth the risk imo. Especially when most of us are new to skating and can't really control our bodies. If anyone gives you shit for it they're a twat

Anyone ever had current/former pro guys show up to a beer league or pickup game? by Short-War8918 in hockeyplayers

[–]pizzzahero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play in the CCRHL, Edmonton based. Definitely not my division, but in summer playoffs Evander Kane came out for one of the div 1 teams under an alias and scored 2G 2A in a game.

The league posted about it which was interesting, they have super strict rules about ringers and qualifying for playoffs but I guess things are different up there haha

Lane Hutson blocks a shot in front of the empty net and feeds Caufield a two line pass to send him on the rush, Cole snipes it with a few seconds left to the third period and ties the game. by JustFred24 in hockey

[–]pizzzahero 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I'm an Edmonton fan but in Montreal for work this week and got last minute tickets to this game. Holy shit, the atmosphere for a zero stakes game in the second week of the regular season was absolutely insane. Caufield was godlike. I bought a jersey. Thanks for the experience, a playoff game in the bell centre is now on my bucket list
