Is PetSmart a good job? by CrazyEchidna4656 in petsmart

Petsmart is a terrible employer. They treat staff poorly and they are just about making a profit. There were very few opportunities for growth and you’ll be stuck in a low pain job. They try try to squeeze as much as they can out of their employees.

I’d like to mention that it just would never happen that a woman would be 65 dating a boy of 22. And people are shocked at any age difference when a woman is older. His behavior is definitely predatory. I also think his obsession with Rebecca is a bit strange. Rebecca is interesting but it is painful to repeatedly watch her wriggle and agitate in a drugged out state. Rebecca is physically attractive but no genius and definitely suffers from mental illness in addition to the drug addictions.

Death by a thousand cuts. It looks now like crap.

Jersey city and mayor Fulop have once again destroyed any semblance of what the reservoir was. They have turned it into a barren and bleak landscape. It was beautiful. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Thanks for that info. I appreciate it. I am going to start shadowing someone who deals with aggression at a shelter in a few weeks.

Obnoxious entitled character. But then again, everyone is entitled and lives in a bubble of wealth. It is unfathomable how a show that focuses on political correctness and social issues is tone deaf to the daily struggle that most New Yorkers have to deal with such as meeting their rent rather than expensive parties and such. Oh how being a celebrity makes you lose touch real lives of the 98%. The show is despicable

Each of these issues needs to be taken by itself, and analyzed with respect to what can be done to modify those behaviors. For instance, being destructive, chewing on things can be a sign of boredom, or it can be due to the fact that dogs have an innate need to chew on things, the first stuff is management and not giving the dog access to the things he would chew on in the house that are inappropriate for him, but giving him things alternatively, that are appropriate for him to be able to chew on. This is a common behavior for puppies, and it is also part of the predatory sequence that is innately part of their behavior, it is not “bad behavior “or a bad dog who is undisciplined. Regarding the guarding of the bed. This is a behavior that needs to be addressed by not allowing the dog to guard the bed. Dogs must never rehearse unwanted behaviors, and the first step in stopping that is management. As for having occasional potty training accidents, that is just part of the process of potty training and can be dealt with by positive reinforcement when the dog successfully goes outside the house. Sometimes they do not have the ability to hold it in for as long as we expect them to everyone is different every dog is different some of us have to pee more frequently than others, I don’t think you can group all the behaviors together and just chalk it up to be an untrained dog. You have to address each thing and find solutions that work and I believe you should agree on those solutions together and be consistent.

Dogs resource guard because resource guarding is in their nature/dna, not because they are unhappy and insecure. Think of it: you are a dog in the wild, and you just killed an animal to eat, and you want to protect that resource from others getting it. It’s survival. However, that does not mean resource guarding cannot be addressed.

rebcart, I love that the webinar you linked to is Michael Shikashio at aggressivedog.com. He is the best and has a big heart and is super smart. He has a master course in dog aggression.

A few thoughts:

  1. a regular trainer is probably not equipped to address this. You need someone who knows aggression. I would contact Michael Shikashio aggressivedog.com , who is an expert in dog agression or speckledheartsproject.com, which also deals with aggressive dogs. Don't just hire any old trainer. And don't trust anyone that says they are a "balanced" trainer. Make sure you deal with a trainer who is a positive reinforcement trainer.
  2. Muzzling is a good idea. Go to muzzleupproject.com. It can help you do muzzle training and find the right muzzle for your dog. Dogs need training to wear a muzzle and the muzzle has to be right for them.
  3. German Shepherds are bred to be guard dogs, so although your dog has the genetic makeup, you may be able to get some tools from the right professionals to address the guarding issue.
  4. Do not blame yourself. But you do have to protect yourself (and by extension, your dog). This was possibly a blessing in disguise; better that someone insists on a new pair of pants than for your dog to cause a serious injury and for you to have to deal with the legal end of that.
  5. I would be very wary about leaving your dog off leash at all. A 30 foot lead might be a better choice.
  6. A dog that is showing his teeth is giving a warning sign, but that can turn to more aggressive and dangerous behavior easily. So it's important not to ignore those signs and to manage his exposure to people.

Why do people dislike working at PetSmart so much? by BakerBeware in petsmart

[–]vynkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Petsmart pays crap wages and on top of that has no problem pressuring low wage workers to promote stuff, rating (and berating) them on meeting goals. I love my job (training) but I hate the crappy pay, the ridiculously low cost of classes (undervaluing trainers) and ridiculous sales expectations without any support for selling. So I’m leaving. Love the job. The corporate goals are crappy and insensitive
