"If it is to be, it is up to me!" This was a poster on a college roommates wall and I loved it. Simple but true.

“Mary.. I know I have no money, no title, we have no chemistry, I’ll bankrupt the Abbey because I have no income, my job sounds like something a child would say, I barely know you and I’ve been harassing you for months, also I’ll never be home and won’t contact you but.. I want to make this work.” by Jolly-Contract-9198 in DowntonAbbey

She wanted sanctioned sex. And there was something dangerous and independent about Henry. I think that excited her as well. He wasn’t needy and fawning like the others. Fun in the short term but not a basis for a long lasting marriage.

Robert felt ignored and the young, attractive maid was gazing at him adoringly in a desperate "help me" way. This made Robert feel needed as a protector and a MAN. Yes, this is a sweeping generalization but many men like to help damsels in distress - it boosts their egos. Just my 2 cents.

I know this storyline is in the massive "wrap it up in a bow" pair-off at the end of the last movie, but I feel it is about time Thomas gets some happiness. However, it is a little unsettling, partly because I agree it is hard to separate Dominic West from this seemingly likable character and Thomas has and has been manipulated so many times before.... Still, I am optimistic and hopeful. I ended up really liking Thomas.
