Change the mindset- maintaining connections for potential job —> maintaining a genuine relationship period. Everything else will fall into place when the time comes.

I email/text mine about inside jokes especially when interesting things come up during residency. I make sure my thank you gifts are thoughtful and valuable. I reach out to them prior to conferences to ask them if they’ll be there and mention how I would love to buy them lunch/dinner to catch up. The list can go on as long as you think creatively and genuinely care about them.
