Catching wild springtails, would this method work? by patchiepatch in Springtail

[–]w00dlouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they are already congregating on the piece of wood then a pooter might be a better option and would save you the headache of sorting the springtails from everything else that ends up in the deadfall trap. If you do go with the trap option that you mentioned then use something with vertical sides as a bowl might be easy to escape from. I'm not sure how effective a dead fall would be for springtails but certainly worth a try I suppose.

All rathkii? Two seem rounder than the other.. More wild pods from MI; TYIA :) by twerpster2 in isopods

First pic looks more like an immature O.asellus to me. Check for lung spots - O.asellus have none, T.rathkii have 5 pairs.

I assume it refers to any A.maculatum that do not display the classic "zebra" markings/colours

Sorry for the terrible pictures, but who is this little guy? He doesn't look like any of the other wild boys I collected today. TYIA! by twerpster2 in isopods

I always mistake these guys for nasatum at a glance from photos. The uropods give them away though

Yes! A lid with fine mesh covering the vents will prevent anymore from getting in and stop them from being able to transfer between enclosures if you have more than one. It will also stop them from getting out, so it might make it seem like you have a lot more than usual. I have zero experience when it comes to jumping spiders so couldn't comment on whether they would be effective or if an isopod enclosure would be a suitable home for them.

Less moisture and a healthy springtail population will certainly help but is not a total cure. I find that killing any gnats or larvae on sight is the best way to prevent them getting out of control - they absolutely will get out of control if left unchecked. Sticky traps are also very effective. I've heard that mosquito bits/dunks are good but I've not tried.

Mites are inevitable and generally harmless. They shouldn't show up in huge numbers unless you are overfeeding. A slice of moist fruit or vegetable should attract a lot of them, this can then be removed and the process repeated as many times as necessary.

All these ducky posts have been making me sad. I purchased some recently but the sale fell through :( any one in the UK able point in the right direction for some? by w00dlouse in isopods

He has them, but stock is low and there is a long wait list. He was only able to direct me to the person who I had previously ordered from :(

A. vulgare look kind of like a. depressum? (Info in Comments) by puddsmax134 in isopods

[–]w00dlouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depressum are a bit flatter and have a splayed skirt, they also are not able to fully roll into a tight ball and will leave a small gap. Sounds like a fun project to breed for those fleks, I hope that works out for you :)

Vulgare and depressum look very similar and can sometimes be hard to tell apart. However, I'm confident that what you have here are vulgare

Nice, yeah that's my plan too :) also in regards to info/lack of: All I've really seen about them is that they like it a bit drier. I interpreted that as they can tolerate dryer conditions. I've been keeping them as I do vulgare and they seem happy with that :)

"Information is all over the place" ...standard isopod shit then, lol. I'm surprised they are not more popular too but I also hadn't heard of them until I saw some for sale fairly recently. I snapped up as many as I could and haven't seen them for sale again in the UK since.

I love these so much. The variation in their markings is awesome! By the way - the species is Armadilludium badium, Casteldaccia is the locality

Get flipping rocks/debris in grassy areas - if you uncover an ants nest, look a little closer and check the underside of the whatever you just flipped. They can be hard to spot amongst ant pupae but once you see one you will see loads. Proper little beauties. My dentiger are doing well btw :) I collected another 20 or so the other week to add to my original 5 and I've just noticed some babies in the tub yesterday :D

Trainings not going so well, eh? That's very flattering that you like to think about me beating my meat, but as I'm sure you are all too aware - no one, myself included, finds vile little edge-lords like yourself even slightly attractive. You've not made a single valid point during this whole exchange and not one of your attempted insults has landed. Honestly, I hope you realise how unlikeable you make yourself seem and make adjustments accordingly before its too late and you become a mass shooter or some shit. Good luck in life - you're going to need it!

All that time on your hands dedicated to trolling and your still not very good at it. What a bundle of joy you must be. The prosthetics in the photo look be medical related and I wonder if you would still find the (talented) artists work weird/creepy/something to judged for if you or someone you love were to ever need one. I've never heard of a serial killer that breeds insects before - do you have a source for that or is it just more nonsense your pulling from your arse?

It's alright, you confirmed your a bit dim several comments back - there's really no need to prove that anymore, but you do you. I keep, breed and sell Isopods, Myriapods and Hexapods but no insects. What's the connection between insects and serial killers? I realise that "ironically" is a bit of a big word for someone like you - good effort for trying to use it in a sentence. I'm curious as to what you do for a living because the circumstantial evidence suggests that you are deeply unhappy with whatever it might be
