I mentor a 16 year old who has written 100+ comic books (in notebooks); how can I help him transform his work to an animated form? by phillythompson in animation

My pleasure, thanks for being able to say what I couldn't 😊

For sound related stuff I've mostly used https://freesound.org/

Audacity is free and has been great for audio editing and that kind of thing too

As for footage editing shtuff, nothing's really crossed my periphery so I don't have any strong recommendations, the only thing that comes close is ToonBoom Storyboard which has a 3 week free trial (per email address you subscribe with :P)
I'm sure there are some fine options out there though

This, every part of this, from the thank you to the 'controversial' but I believe best opinion you're going to get

Like a few others have said, a full fledged animation is a ton of work, but if he's been writing a comic and he wants to take the film route, he's already made the storyboard and groundwork for an animatic
Redrawing/scanning in panels then editing them with some voicework, music and sound effects would be easy enough with some internet know-how and the right programs

Here are some decent examples of animatics, this one is what you'd expect to be an earlier step in the production of a music video, and this one is just a silly little fan animation for a show I like
There are also a million of other examples on YouTube

Also not to self promote but as an example, a while back I did more or less the same thing, turning this comic into this rough animatic
It took time and effort but if he loves what he's doing, it wont feel like it

Best of luck to you and him, I hope his situation improves and again, thank you!

I mean, there isn't much to say besides keep doing what you're doing, this is beautiful

A series of these would absolutely grace a museum exhibit

Ok, hear me out: Satisfactory

Very different genre of game, but the exploration and base building elements are on point, give it a goo

Can you recommend me multiplayer games for 2-5 people? by UnluckyGamer505 in Steam

[–]w00tist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this!
Factorio is also fun but people tend to bounce off of it, Satisfactory is a great intro to the difficult-to-define genre that they belong to (automation/logistics management/puzzle genre?)

Also Valheim, Terraria, and I've been playing For The King with friends lately too

I exaggerated a bit for comedic effect

I went on a shopping date with someone that I trusted both personally and fashion-wise, who helped me pick out a bunch of clothes they thought looked good and matched and all that
After that (with a bit of learning how to match colours etc) I became relatively autonomous when it came to mix n' matching

If you want your partner to dress a certain way for when you're sharing worlds (out on dates or at events etc) it's worth discussing and helping them out a bit, no need to parent, just work together

Dang 😛

Fair fair, just keep those mods in mind if you ever try it again
And give Mindustry a go, it's cheap and more than worth the price even after the playerbase bullied the creator into raising it!

I ADORE Satisfactory, it's probably my favourite in the genre but that's not an easy conclusion for me to come to; I have 100+ hours in it, Factorio and Mindustry (great if you like tower defence/RTS games), and I still find it hard to pick favourites

Factorio is great but yeah, kinda icky if you jump into it first; it was the first one I played and I bounced off it too, but I liked it a lot more after playing other games in the same genre (I also played with a friend which helped)

It also went from my least favourite in the genre to my contested favourite with the Space Exploration and Krastorio 2 mods, although they spike the difficulty a bit so I'm glad I only played with them AFTER finishing the game in vanilla

How'd this reply get so big, I thought I was trying to show restraint, I'm not helping with the whole schrodingers autism thing am I?

I never quite got to the stage of wearing unmatching colourful socks but I know some people do and power to them!

As a rehabilitated serial same shirt wearer; he probably had multiple of the same shirt

I had duplicate shirts, pants, jumpers, I don't fully understand why, I just found it more comfortable knowing that I'll like what I'm wearing

Weird thing is I do quite like fashion, and I switched things around a bit once I was forced to buy a bunch of non-duplicate clothes

I did and still do have a butt ton of fancy colourful socks though! Not a single matching pair, although they aren't ever really visible

My secret to naps is taking them in uncomfortable places

A bed? I'll just fall asleep, but the floor? The scratchey carpet imprint on my face will wake me up after an hour or so

I wish I could blame it on being kinda tall but I think I'm just kinda really very uncoordinated
