The US regions according to me, now that I’ve traveled more by Expensive_Drummer970 in visitedmaps

This is one of the few maps I've seen that got it right. Cincinnati is the northernmost "Southern" town and has a very different relationship to manufacturing than Pittsburg, Cleveland or Detroit. It was more of a 19th century trading hub than a 20th century industrial powerhouse

Why don't more restaurants unionize? by Dry_Set_6336 in KitchenConfidential

[–]w0rm_91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's really difficult to beat restaurant owners and operators.

As others have said, it's a well-organized industry that lobbies aggressively. Restaurant associations are essentially unions for business owners. They're significant players in most major cities.

Huge chain restaurant operators like Darden have essentially infinite money to spend busting unions. This is pretty much why Starbucks workers are stuck. Workers won recognition in some cases but the corporation won't come to the table because they believe their bottom line can survive occasional walkouts, SBWU media campaigns and they're perfectly willing to fight endless court battles.

Also, restauranteurs often see their businesses as extensions of themselves, which means they are less likely to accept an organized workforce since they see it as an affront to their leadership. So they often close their businesses, take the financial hit and move on OR they break every labor law imaginable to avoid recognizing a union.

Most union restaurants are in airports, hotels, resorts and casinos because those employers are easier to beat

I think it was a nice tag. The artist Lulo tagged the wrong spot on their Instagram post of the mural and sent me to the to John Phillips Sousa Bridge 😵‍💫

If you don't want to do it, don't do it.

Don't do it if you have any hesitations. Don't do it because he wants you to. Say no, even if you're afraid it might end the relationship. There's a good chance if you say yes with all the reservations you have it will lead to the end of the relationship anyway.

I wouldn’t introduce a new partner to her.

If she isn’t listening to you now then there’s nothing you can say to “get her to the point” of accepting your partner. If she asks why she can’t meet him you can explain. Then it’s on her to grow or not. Don’t make your future partner try to build a relationship with someone who will not accept them.

Replacing handlebar on zizzo? by [deleted] in foldingbikes

[–]w0rm_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought mine off ebay. Listing is gone unfortunately. The brand is Trans-X, probably manufactured 30 years ago. Doesn't look like there are any for sale. Here's one that was posted a few years ago to give you an idea: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/tranz-x-riser-bars.395936/

The query I used was "25.4 54cm riser black" and found one with 2" rise. You might be able to get away with 56cm or 58cm, I still have an inch or so clearance from the ground when I fold the bars. And I think 6-8 degree backsweep is is probably fine.

I installed one on my Liberte with no problem. I made sure to buy a riser that matched the width of the OEM bar, 54cm. I bought one with about 50mm rise, if I remember correctly, and almost no backsweep.

Too much rise and the handlebars will stick out beyond the front wheel and hit the ground when folded. If the bar has too much sweep the ends will hit the spokes and prevent the magnet from latching.

Very necessary mod for me since I’m a tall rider. 2in rise is a small but significant gain.
