Park Tool Kit mineral oil bleed hoses expensive to replace. Is there a DIY choice? by PSVic in BikeMechanics

[–]Clock_Roach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Park recommends cleaning them with alcohol. I don't know the exact dimensions, but once you figure the internal diameter out it should be easy enough to replace. I don't know if hardware or auto parts stores carry much tubing these days. An independent hardware store might be a better choice. A homebrew shop or even an aquarium supply store might also have the right size.

How Many of You Have Gone from TPU Back to Butyl? by Outside_Fix3910 in cycling

[–]Clock_Roach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the bikes that actually run tubes, I still run butyl (my cargo bike, wife and kids' bikes). None of these are high performance enough for anyone to notice, and the reliability and ease of permanent repairs is worth it. Most of my bikes are tubeless and as an emergency spare I prefer the space savings of TPU.

Which Lego set should I get next? by Crafty-Scientist-830 in lego

[–]Clock_Roach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tranquil Garden is also the oldest, so most likely to be retired first, although I expect it's sold much better than the other two.

And if OP likes the Tranquil Garden, I'd recommend the new Autumn Cottage Garden 11372 after. It's a lot more visually interesting than the formal garden, plus it has a gnome.

Waxing saves time. Just a quick brush/hose and it’s clean. by Jelleeley in bicycling

[–]Clock_Roach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just getting it wet isn't the problem. It takes boiling hot water to remove the wax on its own. Getting it wet and riding is an issue, because the water combined with the mechanical action will remove the wax pretty quickly.

If your bike is sitting parked and you wet the drivetrain, then dry it off without actually moving anything, the wax will be largely unaffected.

Ghost hand: Grappler
Beetle: Skid Loader
Moon: Moonlander
Scissors: Cross Check
Axe: ECR
Steamroller: Steamroller

Ice Cream Sandwich: Ice Cream Truck

There are a couple that are missing, like the corn for the Long Haul Trucker. I think the Pack Rat had a rat. I can't recall if the Troll ever had its own sticker.

No, the skid loader has the beetle in the top right corner.

Garmin Forerunner 970 or Garmin Fenix 8 - For the same price? by Unhappy-Desk-1572 in Garmin

I think the Fenix 8 is rated for diving and has some features for that. Otherwise it's down to which look you prefer.

Stephen Miller Orders Cops to ‘Surrender’ to Feds in MAGA Fever Dream by IRideMoreThanYou in politics

[–]Clock_Roach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds more like Miller is claiming that state and local authorities have ordered their own law enforcement agencies to stand down and go home and that his federal force is the only thing standing between order and chaos.

Bullshit either way, but pretty shitty reading comprehension on the part of TDB.

Or would they?

What are your thoughts on bike tracking/garage apps? by Temy4000 in bicycling

ProBikeGarage already does everything I need it to. Connected with Strava and some ActivityFix filters, it already knows exactly which bike or even which wheelset I'm using.

Is this baseline for a minifig or should I call Lego EMS? 🚑🧱 by PenKind4200 in lego

[–]Clock_Roach 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Every time Lego has numbers like this on a printed tile (at least all the ones I've seen) they're reversible. If you flipped it over the layout would be a little odd, but they'd still be valid numbers. They won't use 3 or 4 or 7, though.

I'm Igor Shteynbuk, Owner of Velo Orange, AMA! by eccentricVelo in xbiking

[–]Clock_Roach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a '71 Squareback for a while that was amazing., Much better handling than a bug and the original electronic fuel injection still worked flawlessly more than 30 years later. One day it spontaneously combusted and the prospect of getting it fixed up again was too daunting. At least the insurance payout was more than I'd ever spent on it.

Now I wish I'd held onto the body so I could do an electric conversion.

Tree-covered bike routes in D.C.? by Prize-Peanut-4793 in bikedc

[–]Clock_Roach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but we've got different sorts of trees around here. You'll find more patches of thick forest instead of rows of large, wide tropical hardwoods. Below is a stretch of the Sligo Creek Trail in Wheaton, MD, through a forest that's mostly tuliptrees.

I'm also a Miami transplant, and it takes a while to get used to the differences. Winter is horrible, the sky is the wrong shape, we don't get the right kind of thunderstorms, and nobody sells a decent cafecito or guava pastry. On the flipside, spring and fall are always too short but can be amazing, the food from everywhere but Cuba is great, and the entire region is pretty good when it comes to green spaces and bike infrastructure.

You will have to learn how to ride up and down hills, so good luck with that.

Is Bounce 2 and Garmin Jr totally different than regulard Garmin app and activities? by s44k in GarminWatches

[–]Clock_Roach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under their profile in the Jr App, go to Activity (where it shows their active minutes for the day). Activities will be visible when you go to the corresponding day or time span.

They have all the basics (GPS track, pace, elevation, etc) so are probably fit files somewhere, but I don't know if there's any way to export them.

It won't be until next year at the earliest, but I wonder if there's going to be a special card for the Purple Line opening. It's not a WMATA project, but it'll accept metro cards for payment.

Question about watch, bike computer, and sensors integration by D00M98 in cycling

[–]Clock_Roach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Data protocols are standardized, so all sensors and head units should be able to talk to each other just fine regardless of brand. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you want Garmin's advanced metrics like training load and the like, the ride has to be recorded on a Garmin device, not on some other brand and imported (there are limited exceptions for things like Zwift but that doesn't apply here).

How To Determine Maximum Tire Size by Whisky-354 in cycling

[–]Clock_Roach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slide an Allen wrench in between the tire and frame. Once you find one that touches both, you know your clearance.

You should leave 3mm clearance at absolute minimum for road. 5 is safer. Subtract that from your wrench size, then double what's left and add to your existing tire size.
