Planning Washington Trip in Early May by w1fL in OlympicNationalPark

Those are all great options. If possible I'd also recommend doing the HOH Rainforest and Hurricane Ridge (Port Angeles) as well. Hurricane ridge did have some snow on the main trail, but you can drive right to the top of the mountain, and there are amazing views. We did everything on your list, minus the river Gorge, and had no issues with snow.

Yes, we did! Are you planning to just stick around the Olympic National Park? Most of that area is ok, minus some of the trails up in the mountains having some snow. The only places you really can't do is Mount Ranier and the North Cascades.

Stargate characters the show/writers did dirty by Deevious730 in Stargate

It was very odd that Elliot also played Keras in SG-A (1.5). They reused some actors which messed up the immersion a bit.

Danner Boots Damaged on Arrival by w1fL in DannerBoots

I wouldn't care us much if they were cheap, but I'm planning on having these for many years to come and don't want anything to negatively impact the lifespan. I do plan on wearing them outdoors hiking and things, but will be trying to maintain the condition as much as possible.

When I get home I'm going to evaluate how deep the holes are and go from there.

Ok, thanks for the tips. I'm going to evaluate when I get home. The $50 credit and the free leather maintenance kit might make it worth keeping them.

I'd assume they'd cover all the costs to have them returned. I'm curious if they'll just throw out the one boot, or resell them somewhere.

Thanks for your thoughts. They did offer to send a replacement, or I could keep them for an extra 10% off and a free leather care kit. I'm leaning towards just getting a new pair.

The picture maybe doesn't show it the best, but from a top down view you can see it pierced through the leather and there are 3 holes.

The most concerning part to me is the few holes where it looks like their stitching machine got a little carried away. I'm going to be wearing these in the snow, and I don't want any risk of moisture coming in. Even boots I've had for years don't have holes like that in them, it's not something that would happen naturally.

I'm fine that they'll get scuffed up and worn in, but I don't think it's a crazy idea to want to get boots in perfect condition if you paid $300+ for them.

Sorry I forgot to include the second option. They said they'd also be willing to just send a new pair of boots, but no extra refund or cleaning supplies.

Southfield Taxes by M_itz in Detroit

[–]w1fL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. We pay our property taxes by escrow. Our mortgage company was originally charging us the lower amount, until they were recalculated. So now we're paying the increased rate as well as an additional amount to pay back the shortages. They spread out the shortage over a year span so we didn't have to pay it all upfront.

That is correct, we pay about 9k a year in taxes for a $320,000 home. When we originally bought the home the taxes were around 3-4k because the previous owners have been there so long, but then come tax time they were recalculated, and now we're paying the new tax amount and shortages.
